Thanks for the response! I thought about doing that but the 2 pieces behind the iMac are mounted into the taller stand. One is a Tube PreAmplifier and the other is a Power Conditioner and they both breathe on the top & bottom so they have to be mounted. The only thing I can think to do is buy a stand alone rack/cart to the mount them in and just have them beside the desk. I was hoping to avoid spending money but I guess it's worth it to save me neck pain lol. And the desk goes pretty far back, probably a foot & a half behind where the iMac is now so it would be pretty sweet to have all that space!

Could you even just get two brackets to turn the horizontal part of that shelf behind the iMac into a wall mounted shelf that sits above the monitor?

That would be cheap as hell, you'll get more desk space and still have more or less an identical setup as you have now!

----------

What programs, scripts, etc do you use to accomplish the file transfers?

CarbonCopyCloner just! with a cloned 'Creative' folder on each of the systems, with the third iteration (Mini to Backup HDD) Archiving to the HDD and Cloning back to the iMac.

Each 'Creative' folder is shared via file sharing just.

It's a really straight forward way of doing it, but it serves my needs and means I don't have to keep dragging & dropping and checking each system has the most up to date work on it!

I even have a once daily backup from the MBP back to the iMac (incase I've done some work in transit or at a coffee shop)

It's an unfinished solid core fire door from Wickes, they had them on offer for £20 a pop but I think they're back up to £35 now, it's SO sturdy though, I was using an Ikea Vika Amon table top before this and it's lighter than even a hollow core door!

Definitely recommend this route, I think including the Door (£20) Legs (£16 for both, Ikea) and Varnish (Ronseal Perfect Finish Walnut, £8, Amazon) is a brilliant price for the sturdy, spacious and great looking desk I got from it, even if you do have to pay another £15-20 for the door initially you're still getting solid 200cm x 76cm space for around £60, you pay that for a flimsy 100x60 MDF job from most places already!

If I'm not mistaken, these are the legs right?

How did you attach them to the door itself, or is the door just placed on top?

You are not mistaken!

They are the exact ones, sturdy too! And the door is just set on top yes, they have little rubber stoppers (they come with the legs when you buy them) that stop it from sliding about too!

For my first post in a year and a half.. a very messy desk!

My hour-old 1.8GHz 13" air with my battered Alienware Area-51 m17 and my truly ancient Sony 23" display.

Why have the RMBP run in clamshell mode? Flaunt the screen! :)

Hey I'm in the market for a new desk and was interested in the Ikea Expedit. Could you by any chance tell me the width of the desk only, not including the self?

Thanks in advance

Hey!,
Sorry for my late response, but here you go:
The table itself (without the shelf) is exactly

79cm x 115cm

which is an equivalent of

31,1 x 45,3 (in inches)

Hope I could help!

Haha, normally I do. I've been working on a website recently though and it's much easier when I can edit code directly next to the browser, which fits better on the thunderbolt display. :)

It looks like an Eames Herman Miller/Executive chair replica (few differences) but from experience, they're very comfortable indeed! As this one seems to feature the same convex lumbar bar and ergonomic posture alignment as the originals (or as close as you can tell from those images) i'd say it's grand!

I used an Eames DAW and it's basically a big plastic shell with no padding (think Dark Helmet from Spaceballs mask) and it's honestly one of the most comfortable chairs I've owned!

I think too many people think 'Oh computer... what kind of chair do I need, I know I need 'computer chair' and head out to buy the least aesthetically pleasing swivel chair they can!

I'm a design nerd, so whatever, but form & function don't have to be separate, and I wouldn't be seen dead in a blue fabric swivel chair on plastic castors with a shoddy gas lift and multiple angled (yet none satisfying) back support... just because, well look at it :)

Haha, I hear ya. I didn't like the swivel chair I owned in the past as it had a tendency to slightly recline. Now I'm back to my old chair, but it doesn't have the comfort and posture I'm looking for. I want something comfortable that wouldn't recline much. Oh and hold the fabric and if possible, the swivel. Lol

This one looks neat. However I just checked the Eames website and the chairs that look like this (along with most of their products) are a lot more than what I'd pay for a chair, honestly (at least for a desk chair). Any idea where can one get a replica with the same comfort (and perhaps be able to try before I buy)?

Info on those speakers please, thanks.

To correctly state, those are Yamaha HS80M studio monitors. :) Great monitors for production use. Really flat sounding. However, IMO they are not great for solely listening to music. I think KRK gets hats tipped in their direction for that purpose.

Hey,

Having a bit of trouble as the internet is a bit of a troublesome character nowadays, so I can't seem to search for any results near Arizona, no matter what the price/location keeps treating me as someone in the UK so I can't get *accurate* pricing for you.

But if you google/ebay Eames Management Chair Replica from your end it should turn up a few results, if you want one with the swivel base google previous term, the replicas that are static framed (like the OP's) are usually called Eames Management Desk Chair or Dining Chair or thereabouts!

Sorry I couldn't be more help, to be honest, it's one of the most copied of Eames / Herman Millers designs so it shouldn't be hard to find a duplicate of it if you shop around, it may even help to reduce cost if you look for one that doesn't advertise itself as a replica!

As far as cost, the swivel/lift replica version (pretty close copy really) goes for £169 in the UK, I daresay you'd find a cheaper one over your way!

Yeah, thanks! LOL, I'll keep looking. Hopefully I'll find one soon. :)
