From the last thread:

And now, cleaned up a little and with some better lighting. Running the 15" MBP (early 2011) in clamshell mode for now, I haven't been needing dual displays recently.

This last picture being my little music workstation of ancient gear. (keyboard at least 20 years old, laptop more than 10 years)

I haven't begun to delve into the bits and bobs here as normally my posts just fade away into oblivion. If you do see something, feel free to ask I'm happy to inform.

Also, the setups here are wonderful. Keep up the awesomeness.

Its just a cheap one i got of Amazon, but it works really well and is slightly larger and heavier than the apple one i had, makes it a bit more sturdy.

Thats the name of the one i got, there are a few variations.

Thoughts on New Geek Setup

Hey Guys,

Thought I'd include a picture of my new setup, ended up going with the mStand as recommended. Actually found a guy selling his for $30 bucks, so hopefully I got a good deal on it:

New Geek Setup:

Wanted to get 2 monitors, but unfortunately my desk isn't large enough for 2 24" monitors...so decided to just use my Macbook screen as a secondary monitor.

Let me know your thoughts !

Thanks,

My new desk setup is coming along nicely :)

Should be finished by the end of the week, just in time for the delivery of my rMBP :D

The monitor is an older BenQ monitor, I don't recommend it.

The desk is actually a dining table from Ikea.

I was considering getting that same table (my new apartment doesn't have space for my U-shaped desk, but I love large workspaces), but with the black top. How do you like it?

Either way, I'm thinking a dining table is the way to go if you just want a simple, large work surface.

I like it but next time I won't go glass.

Same with me, the next desk i get won't be glass i just hate how quickly prints and smudges get on glass.

Yeah it's too much upkeep and I don't like the feel of cold glass. A nice wood finish is nicer I think.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'd really like to get a table similar to what Apple uses in its retail stores, but I remember reading that tables for each store run about ~$600,000, so I reckon even a single table will be out of my price range

There was a member on this forum, if I recall correctly, who went and got his table made from a carpenter. Ended up costing him only about $1800.

Only a few places I know of that sell expensive furniture are Design Within Reach, Etsy, and Herman Miller. Of course anything made out of pure wood can be expensive.

Nice setup! What are the speakers you're using there? I assume they go into a USB control unit or something?

After a new set to replace a crap set of Bose Companion 5's.
