In reply to my "traveling work setup" here is my 15 inch (late 2011) MacBook Pro at home setup which is my retired work computer.

This is my setup. I love the 2011 machines, because with them I am able to keep a little Snow Leopard partition.
I have the 13 Early 2011 version, but could I afford it, I would have picked 15 anti-glare.

Great setup and a great atmosphere in the picture.

Do you know where go got the desk lamp from?

Still a work in progress (aren't they all). I have some cable management to do and I need to find some suitable art, too. I prefer a simple and tranquil computing environment :apple:

Thanks man, if memory serves me correctly I got it from either Target or Office Depot a couple years back.

The only thing I don't like about the anti-glare screen is that because of the bezel around the screen its a little harder to clean than the glass screens.

But otherwise I like it, I'm considering putting an OWC SSD in it and removing the DVD drive, but it is still covered under AppleCare and I'm sure they wouldn't be to thrilled with that "upgrade."

where did you get those glass shelves? I would love some like that for my desk!

Hey, Keeg. I got them from amazon. Look for "OmniMount ECSB Component Shelf Wall Shelf". They run about $35, swivel, and support 30 lbs.

I wasn't sure if I would like it since it was going to be a bigger screen, but lower resolution than what I was used to (27" iMac). I've had the setup for a few weeks now and I think it's great. The lower PPI doesn't really bother me since I use this screen mostly for videos, games, and light browsing.

Was the 27" TV you had 1080P? The reason I ask is that most TVs under 32" are 720P instead of 1080P. There are 1080 ones out there, but it's not as common. If it was 720P then the resolution was probably 1366x768, and on a 27", I can see that being a problem when being used as a monitor. That's almost half the resolution of a standard 27" (2560x1440).

My Tv is full 1080p, its a Samsung SyncMaster one so is made to be a monitor, it was just too in my face though, although my desk is only 61cm deep so that is probably where the problem lies, it does look great when I plug my MBA into it

MacPro as a Home server. 2 external drive arrays with 16 3TB drives in a RAID 5 array.

This MacPro also provides train layout operations for my model trains (currently under construction).

Very nice layout! I have had 3 O gauge layouts in my past 2 homes. I am switching to HO since my new basement just can't sustain the large radius curves my O gauge trains need.

What software are you using, and what are your trains running? TMCC, DCS?

got a new camera

thought i'd update my desk setup using my new camera, which is a sony nex-6 w/ sony 20mm f2.8 pancake lens.

the computers are the same though, which are a hackintosh/windows gaming pc and a 2010 15" mbp.

cdesk_121513_03_web_zps0825063e.jpg

so, i basically use the hackintosh for video and photo editing and the rest for gaming in windows. my mbp can do a little photo and video editing, too. but, the hackintosh is obviously faster. i basically built this pc, though, for games and the ability to hack it to run os x was something more of an experiment/bonus. i'm an aspiring filmmaker/artist.

and, yes, that is a 20 long gallon planted tank in the background, which has become a hobby since the "unemployment era" (circa 2011-present). who'd thunk i'd get into planted tanks while in the midst of looking for work? i guess i needed something to "do" besides freaking out.

My Vintage Setup For December

So nothing major has really changed in my setup over the past couple of months. I got an iMac G4 back in september, but my latest purchase is my JVC GR-C1. Aka the camcorder from back to the future.

I am gonna "slightly" declutter next week for the arrival of a few more odds and ends over christmas. :)

Apologies for the not so good image. It was shot on my Go Pro, as its wide angle lens is pretty useful at getting everything in one shot, but not good in low light.

Here's a closer shot of the JVC.

Record player from above. Also featuring my 1969 Sony Flip clock and my 1935 GPO 232 telephone I restored over the summer :D

Yeah, I have the mStand, so maybe he thought I quoted another pic... The picture I quoted appears to be using the Twelvesouth, but doesn't appear to fit right. Maybe it was a TwelveSouth for cMBP and had not switched it out for the rMBP version when he upgraded.

Yeah that is the one, my twelve south stand didn't come with a retina silicon bit, as it was older than retina machines, hence why it is leaning slightly.

I guess I'll pile on here. This is what you get when you have to make your living with this stuff. There's a whole dual monitor MacPro setup on the left out of view and a 5' wide Canon printer behind me. This is my home office, my work one is even crazier.

You use the tank as a Terraium and not a fish tank. Or is it a fish tank and those specks are your fish? What type of plants are in there. I'm working on an tank with air plants myself. I already have one with a few fish. I want one with my own little forest maybe something with those tiny frogs.

no, it's not a terrarium. but, you're right that those tiny specks are my fish. terrariums are cool, though. i've thought of it but i just don't have the space. i have another tank that wasn't pictured since it was on the other wall. so, if i add a 3rd tank, i'll have to sleep on the floor. lol.

here's a better closer shot of this tank:

fishtank_121613_02_web_zps99ba6082.jpg

fish are cardinal tetras, endlers, otocinclus, siamese algae eater & dwarf shrimps; plants are bacopa carolina, dwarf baby tears, cypress helferi and cardinal plants.

the other 20 gallon long planted tank on the other wall:

fishtank_121613_01_web_zps494aac5c.jpg

a 40 gallon breeder though is a perfect size tank for a terrarium. if i only have the space and the funds to make it. lol.

p.s. -- my apology for showing fish tanks in a computer desk forum but it's part of my "room."
