Eight Years of Desk Evolution

I know I have posted previously but with the Mac being at 30 I was digging around on my hard drive and spotted a photo taken by 13 year old me back in 2006 of my Mac setup. :D

It shows a rather awful HP CRT Monitor, a random microphone suspended from the ceiling? and god awful paint job what was I thinking back then LOL?

This was my first "true" Mac. Sure, I had been a user of Macs many years before this with Performas and an iMac, but this was the first Mac I could technically call my own and it was epic at the time LOL. A 2006 Mac Mini system.

I wonder what the next eight will bring? :)

Updated the setup today... I'm less a Toshiba Portege M780 and up an iBook and a full trash :p

Still have the Portege, it's in the classifieds here and a couple of other forums along with ebay, but it's on its way out:

Little bit of a double post, but if fits in two locations.
Heres my updated set up. Cleaned up and simplified. (no more multiple keyboards, with screen sharing set up on the macs, and Microsofts Remote Desktop for the w7 system. Also shows my new white Ikea lights, in addition to my monitor lights. (set on red now, to match my new money tree pot, and red sheets on the spare bed behind me)

how do you like those speakers? i have the same one.

They're decent, I had them laying around in my room at home and needed a decent set. The bass is pretty good for budget speakers, they look modern and I'd say they do the job overall haha

I've had better and I've had worse though.

Your desk is gorgeous! Where from?

It's a pine tabletop from IKEA-- they sold it years ago untreated. I left it like that for a few weeks and the room smelled like a logging camp, loved it. I ended up staining it though because it started to show marks from usage.

Is that an MBA with TBD? If so I have three questions:
What year MBA?
Have you upgraded to mavericks?
Do you have any issues when waking the MBA from sleep? Thanks :)

Yes, 2013 MBA, but with a 24" Apple Cinema Display, not thunderbolt. I upgraded to Mavericks without problems, never had issues with waking up from sleep with the MBA attached.

are those java ferns i spy in that fish tank?

Yes, way too many of them, it's getting wild in there. I just leave it until it gets out of hand and I can't take it anymore, then I grab them by the handful and make a few bucks from them :p

Update

I now have a much nicer 23" 1080p monitor for clamshell mode. Much nicer than my 20" 1600 x 900 one.

i was given these speakers so i can't really complain. they've been the only speakers i've ever used and they're not bad. the subwoofer does help with the bass. although, very subtlety. not the noisey kind of bass that some cheaper set of speakers might sound like, which makes me think that these are like mid-to-high end speaker sets. not sure though.

They are quality. That being said, they are about 10 years old I believe, so they do show their age against newer speaker systems.

They for sure do not look like a set of 10 year old speakers though ahha

I got mine when they were new and they were used on my parents computer, they both have laptops now so I have them for my desktop :D

Hello there, can you give me your opinion about audioengine DS2? Does it make your speakers sound better? Does it worth the money to you? Thank you!

Well, they were a present, according to Audioengine they are helpful as they raise the speaker to ear level more and kill vibrations. If you have some spare money, get 'em, else I doubt that they are essential. :)

Whats powering those displays?

There's a Mac mini sitting on a Twelve South Backpack behind the left display. :)

Here's a cool tip... get some foam from a shipping package and cut it up and place four foam piece in the corners underneath the speakers. Works just as well. There is a huge improvement once the vibrations of the speakers do not travel through the desk... That's worded poorly but I hope you get it :p
