System is: base M1 Macbook Air 8GB, on a new Twelve South BookArc stand (hidden behind the Lando Calrissian action figure), connected to a 27" LG 27UL50 4K display via HDMI via Apple's USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adaptor.

Keyboard is a bluetooth mechanical Keychron K2 with Gateron brown switches and Keychron's retro PBT Apple keycaps (MUCH better than the cheap and horrible ABS factory keycaps), with Keychron's own wooden palm rest (the keyboard is TALL). The mouse is a Logitech G604, connected to the MBA via a USB receiver.

This keyboard and mouse setup is a life-changer, as I also use a gaming PC (under the desk), and both the keyboard and mouse can switch between the Mac and PC at the touch of a button (the mouse switching between the USB receiver on the Mac, and BT on the PC).

The Harmon Kardon Soundsticks are the wired version and are connected to the PC. Which means the last piece of the puzzle for me is a good set of BT speakers for the MBA - I know there is a bluetooth version of HK system, but I think it is out of production. Wireless is important for me, as I take the MBA everywhere when it's not used as my desktop system. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know!

The LG 27UL50 is their bottom of the range (cheapest!) 4K display, but I'm extremely pleased with it. The display is connected to a gaming PC under the desk via DisplayPort, but having tested HDMI vs DisplayPort on both the MBA and the PC, I couldn't tell any difference, and the Apple AV adaptor is the easiest way to have a one-plug solution (power, HDMI at 4K 60Hz, and the USB receiver for the mouse). I'm sure on a higher-end 4K display, DisplayPort would be preferable.

The aluminium riser is from Amazon - there is a lot of junk on Amazon, but this riser is rock solid. The display stand is not height-adjustable, and I couldn't be bothered replacing it with a third-party stand.
Hey, thanks for sharing! I love the wallpaper - care to share where it can be found?

I don't understand, why you have guys MBs closed in stands? I use mine opened even with extra display to take advantage of it's internal keyboard, trackpad and mainly display. I can't imagine that I have new MB Pro with that gorgeous panel and have it closed in stand ?‍♂️

I don't understand why people would use a laptop keyboard and trackpad when at home, personally that is not a good experience.

I hate small keyboards, trackpads and screens but require a laptop for work as I travel up to 50% of the time, so when at home I use full size input devices and screens.

I could get an elevated stand and open my mbp for an extra screen but its just wasted space as I will never use the keyboard or trackpad when at home. My OG 12.9" iPP serves far better as an extra screen if I needed 3.

I will acknowledge that I miss TouchID when at home because my MBP is closed but its a small price to pay for comfort.

Just personal preference really, YMMV.

I have a 27" 5k display connected to it. I'm happy with that.

I like using my 49 inch display, mechanical keyboard and larger mouse when I work from home. No matter how people spin it, working on a 49 inch screen is better for productivity than a 13-16 inch screen.

Now if I wanted color accuracy working on video or photos, I can either undock it and use it's screen, or use my iPad Pro but that is not something I do full time. Keyboard on the MacBook is fantastic as a laptop keyboard. I however prefer using a mechanical keyboard or my Logitech MX Keys at the office.

When working in Microsoft Office such as Outlook and Spreadsheets, the trackpad isn't as comfortable for me as my MX Master 3 or even my Razer Orochi. It may be for other people, but not me. Everyone has their own preferences.

Exactly. My Macbook screen is amazing but if I'm looking at Xcode I don't need anything fancy.

I also use my laptop as "desktop" in the past but then I realize, that I use it that way most of the time and when I need to use it alone, I can use to its keyboard and trackpad. So I transformed to this way..

I have also 28" 4K display that I really like to use, but it don't force me to close my laptop :).
I can use not only MB's display, keyboard and trackpad, but also it's mic, camera and speakers. When I'm somewhere "outside" I use it same way but without external display.

I completely understand that mechanical keyboards is another experience, but then I will consider Mac Mini.

BTW. about mices. I tried many different mices and I ended with Magic Mouse and trackpad. I like it's integration into OS and no other mouse give me that. I also like "ergonomic" of Magic Mouse. I tried MX Master 3. Nice mouse, but even with drivers I still feel that it goes against OS. IMHO macOS isn't designed for classic mices with scroll wheel.

I'm very happy that I start this type of conversation because I like to explore new looks and approaches.

I've tried 2 Magic Mice now and find them "slow"? I can't explain it but it's like I have to move the mouse "up" twice to move the corsor from the bottom of the screen (25") to the top? So I have to move the mouse up once, lift it up and then move it up again? I mean, is there something in settings I've not got right?
