Is that a Microsoft mouse? It looks great.

I love MS's mice! I have a bluey/greyish one. I'd like to get that mouse to match all my new stuff.

Can't wait to add my setup to this thread once all the pieces arrive.

Spencers is right, that's a Logitech V470, only bluetooth mouse they had without an external dongle

Made some changes to my set up over Christmas... bought a new cordless phone during Boxing Week... and shuffled around some frames and things.

isub on the floor out of the picture, and the rest as labeled. :)

Very clean and elegant. What are you using to elevate your Macbook like that?

Also, I have that same mouse. :D Are you using USB overdrive? Or do the forward and back buttons just plain work for you?

I've recently dropped the money on a new desktop & 'done a Gordy' as it were - simplified like hell!

I went from this in December (though this isn't as cluttered as it's been!);

To this in the new Year (crap photo I know, need to take better). It's wonderful having deskspace to spread out notes/textbooks/folders/etc.;

Beige machine is my firewall (500MHz K6-2, 32MiB, m0n0wall) with a 24-port AT switch (complete overkill now!), black machine is my new desktop (E2140, 2GiB, Archlinux). I've kept a CRT for watching movies/anime from the bed (where the speakers point). The piano black finish on the Sonata III picks up fingerprints so bad, but I've only just finished tweaking & haven't had time to polish off.

Where's the Mac I hear you cry? Well, because it's exam season atm I don't have any lectures/labs/etc to go to so my MacBook has sat closed for several weeks now...

I keep a history of my setups (going back to August 2006) here if anybody wants to watch it evolve :)

Edit - dark;

My Setup

Posted mine in the old thread about 2-3 weeks ago, and figured that I'd post it again here.

Thanks!

I use SteerMouse. It works perfectly - I have buttons mapped to dashboard, expose, and spaces, as well as to application specific things (e.g. cycle through tabs or go back in safari)

Are those just Styrofoam strips under the Macbook? ... Or are they a product?

haha, you got it - styrofoam! they work pretty well.

So what exactly does a firewall consist of?? I always thought that a firewall router was all you needed.

Just a small update...

This is what my setup looks in my bedroom:

However, it's like this most the time:

The family computer:

... Of course, my Macbook setup will look quite a bit differently come next week as I head back to my college dorm.

And, if my tranny weren't in need of a rebuild, I'd have one of those new Mac Pros.

A dedicated hardware firewall has numerous advantages over the 'firewall' built into a router, including being more secure, more customisable & offering more advanced features like traffic shaping & packet inspection, to name just a few. There's also the fact that a router costs money whereas ancient PCs are free :)

nice! hows the backlight on the ACD? is it even throughout the whole screen? test it with a full screen white image. my 23" is darker in all four corner and along the bottom and im not very happy about it.

Thanks! The backlight on the ACD is very even. I put up an all white background like you suggested and I can't see any difference at the corners or in any section of the screen. Mine is a 20", and it's 3.5 years old now! :eek:
