Nice setup and everything, but i'm really sorry to hear about your transmission. That car is damn nice, how many miles does it have? And please, nobody tell him how he should gotten a japanese car. That won't help the situation at all.
Yup... I've been really down on my luck... and I've actually posted my sob story on a couple boards... but I just don't understand my luck at all...
Basically, I got a job when I turned 15, and worked 30hrs/week during school to save up for a car. I turned 16 and bought a '96 Monte Carlo. Just a few months later, I needed an $1800 transmission rebuild. In a matter of owning that car for about 2 1/2 years, I put nearly 10 grand into just keeping it running. I was basically working 35hrs/week on top of school just to pay for the car that was getting me to work. At the beginning of this last summer, the tranny started slipping again. I was just a few months after my warranty on my previous rebuild was up.
Finally, I had enough. I don't have anyone to co-sign for me, but I found a bank willing to give me a *decent* interest rate. I figured through college, I'd need something reliable. I picked out this Grand Prix. I actually love the car. It's really, really nice for a college kid, IMO. It's a 2006. I bought it in August ('07), with 34K miles. I have 41K miles on it now, and I need a complete tranny rebuild. Just 5K miles out of warranty.
I've done everything I can. Called the dealer, a GM dealer, and Pontiac themselves... nobody will help me. And I don't have $3000 lying around, as I'm barely getting by paying for college.
So, I'm at a loss for what to do. I really can't afford to take out another loan... so I have a feeling I'll be paying $300+ a month and working my ass off in college while my car just sits in my driveway back home. It's basically been sitting up at the dealership (for the 2nd opinion) for about two weeks now... since I can't even afford the $80 tow to get it home.
Eh... whatever, though. At least I'm alive! And I have a great family that would help me, I think, if they could. I'm trying to be positive... but trust me, it's kinda tough, lol.
Anyhoo... that's my essay. 0
Oh, yeah... and for the record, for those "buy an import people." I was initially looking at a Mazda 3/6, but it was a bit out of my pricerange. I went looking at Civics/Accords/Corrolas, but they're just too darn small. I'm 6'3", 200+ lbs, and have 16 shoes. I'm a bigger guy, and I felt cramped in all of them. Plus, in my budget, a similarly priced import had usually over 80K miles. I thought I was buying the smart car with lower miles and a newer manufacturing date. Guess I was wrong...
