Changing the MacBook's HD was surprisingly easy. The toughest part I had was the strange screws inside, you have to have a special screwdriver for them.

haha I couldnt agree with you more. it took me forever to get those screws off when i was trying to upgrade my ram. particularly the middle one was very tight and didnt want to come off. the second screwdriver i tried finally did the trick.:)

Here's the ugly PC days:
desk4.jpg

I slowly added Apple peripherals until I had enought money to buy a MacBook Pro.

I decided to save up for a Mac Pro and a 30" Cinema Display. I figured I'd sell the 20" CD and the MacBook Pro and get the 30". I would also have enough money left over to buy a cheap used MacBook on eBay to hold me until the Mac Pro came.

So I'm almost there. I am just waiting for the Nvidia 8800 cards to become available and I can buy the new Mac Pro.

That's a nice little evolutionary story in pictures you got going there, from the messy PC days to the stylish Mac days. But I do find it funny that you had your desk FAR messier when you had your PC than you have now. It's a bit of an unfair comparison as it makes the PC setup look EVEN worse than it is! ;)

So hold on a sec, have you got your 30" ACD running from your MacBook (must look pretty blurry) while you wait for a new Mac Pro? Or did you take that pic when it was connected to your MBP?

Upgraded!

Hey,

Here is a couple pics of my first Mac (24" 2.4) and the old PC I upgraded from. I am tying to keep my setup simple and clean, although the file cabinet and T.V. tray/printer stand are in need of further upgrades. I am still getting used to the new OS but I am definitely diggin my new Mac!

P.S. I normally don't post pics on forums so I apologize in advance if I jacked up the image/pixel size.

It's simply amazing the visual difference of a PC setup to a Mac setup.

Just stunning. Those PC setup pics remind me of my days of disgusting beige boxes.

On the subject of changing stuff in the new MBs...remember the days when if we wanted to do something we'd just pop up our keyboards and go at it?

Ahhhhh...the old days of translucent fruity colors.

Well, also the days of iBook G4s. Not too long ago, my friend.

Anyway, I have a PC setup at dad's house now. It's a Thinkpad T60.

(sorry for the crappy 2nd pic)

Is that a new desk? Where did you get it? I'd rather have a extra drawer, than the keyboard tray, but I like the style and the workspace looks generous.

Well...feels like forever. It was only the very early iBook G4's though, I don't believe the last models of the G4 had that...so it has been quite a while.

I picked up the desk at an unfinished furniture store, I had to stain it myself. Staining it was a bit of PIA, but it turned out pretty decent considering I was on the bottom of the learning curve. The ergonomics are a bit off but like most things in life, there are tradeoffs. I am pretty sure most unfinished furniture stores carry the manufacturer.

you can also make it an L desk

So you're saying the last revisions do have the removable keyboard?

Interesting. I really didn't recall them having it.

Learn something new every day :)

Well, unless I'm just REALLY strong (which I'm not :D) they have the removable keyboard. One time, BTW, I took RAM out of an old Gatewat craptop while it was running. I LMAO'ed.

Try that sometime. The screen went all garbly-tastic.

Yeh, In know. I was in the middle if building a digital clock. So the desk was super messy. I don't have a better picture of "back in the day".

Yes, the 30" is running off the MacBook at 1280x800. It's a little blurry, but not horrible. I can put up with it for another few weeks until I get the Mac Pro. Then I will have an awesome workstation with an awesome monitor, and a pretty decent laptop to tote around. Perfect.

Thinkpads are really actually great systems, I used to have a 360X I know have an R40 running Linux and my brother has the T30 that I picked out for him. Though, are you running apps that you need Windows? A fun project for the Thinkpad is to install Linux, it actuallly works quite well (http://www.thinkwiki.org).
