Here's my setup when I'm away at college. All of my recording stuff is at home, I just bring the Firebox because it's so portable.

30" ACD & 17" MBP

What do you do? Do you have a site of all your works?

I work in the games industry in the UK, and i don't have a site with my personal works as i have little time. This is my home machine, at work we use PC's unfortunately due to the nature of games design and developement.

I have put in for a mac at work though.. "hopes and waits"

Very nice.

Reminds me of my own setup. (Black Macbook and occasionally it gets hooked up to my 26" HDTV)

What kind of TV do you have?

I don't even have a TV, all the shows I watch come from the internet. Watching them on the 30 is wonderful for the most part (can get pixely at times though)

That 30 is sweet, if i didn't buy my PC, my iPhone, and my MBP, i might be able to afford a 17MBP and 30 display, not sure tho. Isn't a 17 MBP a little wasted when you have a big display, just my thought, unless you travel a lot out of school.

I think the 17 inch mbp would make a good desktop replacement. But now that the 15 inch can be maxed out so that its like the 17 inch, I don't see the 17 inch worth the extra money anymore, unless you barely travel, and just want the portability for the heck of it.

I take the MBP to school almost everyday. It's got the high res display so it's nice cause I can actually do photo and design stuff comfortably on it by itself. When it's hooked up to the 30" I leave things like mail and itunes open on the MBP screen, it's convenient cause then I can always see those things while I do real work on the 30".

The 1920x1200 resolution on my 17" feels a lot more comfortable than the 1440x960 res of my old powerbook. It's a lot more space

Here is mine although admittedly, it's not perfect yet and may be changed. It's a Mac Mini 2.0 connected to a 52" Sony Bravia in our great room. Also connected in that room is a Wii and a Sony Bravia DAV-IS 10 system. The TV and sound system are both amazing! I haven't hidden all of the wires yet because I'm not sure that I am going to leave it setup that way.

My original plan was to use it as a HTPC (movies, music, web surfing etc), but after having it for a month or so, I may not. A couple of my issues:

1. I'm a switcher that was heavily entrenched in the Windows world and I'm struggling a little bit.

2. I often want to play with the new Mac at the same time my wifey wants to watch TV. The two don't mix and those of you with wives know who wins that argument...and it ain't me! ;)

As of today, I think I'm gonna move the Mac Mini to my office/den and get an AppleTV for the great room. At the end of the day, I'm not sure a Mini was the right purchase. If I move it to the office, then I would rather something more powerful. I'm in the market for a laptop but I'm waiting to see what Apple does next.

Anyway, here is my current setup...

That is my dream setup ! I already have the 17" Macbook Pro. I do have the high-res display as well and I think quite often if the 15" would be the better solution. I go back and forth with that. . .

^ Nice. LOL, your big exercise ball made me think of the TWiT #98 podcast from awhile back...Leo LaPorte, the host, was sitting on one of those at his desk when it exploded in the middle of the show. Someone's talking and then BOOM! LOL

Oh man thank you for posting that. When I was listening to that episode I almost fell out of my chair... err, actually -- I almost fell off my ball.

When that happened I think I was walking around campus and had to actually stop walking and bend over to catch my breath I was laughing so hard -- I remember getting weird looks from people.

That doesnt look comfortable, where do you put your feet when you use the imac? And do you bend down everytime you need to type? That looks painful. I have that same exact imac, a lot of people have 2.8's on here, but maxed out to 4gb, i have a seagate drive in mine, also a matshita optical

I use it about half of the time. I have a big leather chair I'm in right now. Really I switch back and forth on a regular basis. About an hour or two in each before I switch. Really makes a difference.

Sorry I'm new here :P lol edited ;)

And it's not uncomfortable at all, I sit perfectly. I open them doors and pull the keyboard out on a slidy table thing and my legs sit under the keyboard table thing. My hands rest fine on the keyboard, no bending down required ;)

Also I now have two EyeTV Diversity aerials behind the iMac (not visible).

Maxing my ram out to 4gig, will it improve the performance alot? Is it necessary?
