Just to clear things up... you're asking about any speed differences he might have noticed between the Macbook Air and the Mac Pro? Right? Ok. Yeah.

Err ... I was only asking about the hard disk drive comparison not the whole system. I think you need to re-read what I wrote.

I'm sure I remember reading a review on the net that said that the SSD was actually faster than the hard disk drive in a Mac Pro for certain situations and I was interested to know how it fares in real world usage NOT which system is faster for advanced simulation work or 3D rendering ... there's no comparison.

May I ask where the legs are on your Sony monitor? It almost looks photoshopped in, because you can't even see any variation from the wall to the monitor... lol.

It's a Sony SDM-N50PS LCD monitor, circa 2000, which I've mounted on the wall. The wire for it (it uses a single wire to carry power and video, like ACDs do) runs behind the wall. I use this monitor for stuff like widgets, iTunes in mini mode, and Messenger.

Ahh.. cool. I figured it was something like that.

Yeah, it's a great little monitor. The amazing thing is that it has lasted more than 7 years so far. (knocks on wood) I keep thinking about buying a spare on eBay, but haven't done it yet.

I just looked it up, and it's a reaaaaaaally thin monitor for 2000. I remember most LCDs were like an inch thick then.

Hell, it's a really thin monitor for 2008. No one seems to make a monitor in this form factor anymore, which is a shame. I don't remember exactly what I paid for it back then, but I'm reasonably sure it was more than $1000.

How did you get the Dell monitor to do that?!

Funny you should ask. I've always loved the look of LCDs without stands. At first I tried leaning against the back wall with no luck at all and then it finally hit me... Put the stand behind desk so the two legs go underneath the back of the desk and the LCD its self rests on the desk. Pushing the desk back as far as possible so it pins the stand against the wall is what keeps it propped up. Hey, it works.

1. DVD-r
2. 4gb thumb drive and keys to my 2005 mitsubishi montero
3. CD-r
4. 60gb External (the hdd inside is from my ps3 I have a 160gb inside my ps3 now :D )
5. 500gb WD Mybook Home Edition (used for movie storage)
6. 250gb Maxtor HDD (time machine)

I really like the set up and the cabinet looks really nice and organized. When I get out of a dorm that's something like I want to get, only mayble less on top, more side bookshelves or something. But I wish my dad would learn from your organizational skills. And the screen saver is a definate plus. A link would be appreciated.

A few points of interest:

  • Mac Pro 2.8 GHz, 8 core, with 6 GB RAM and 4 TB worth of HD space
  • 2 Mac minis (1.66 GHz and 1.5 GHz, just to left of Aeron chair) mounted underneath shelf with Cinnamon Peripherals mounting brackets
  • Western Digital 1 TB FireWire HD
  • 30" ACD
  • MacBook Air (1.8 GHz, 64 GB SSD)
  • second VGA monitor (Sony 15") connected to Mac Pro
  • Bose Computer MusicMonitor speakers
  • 3 iPods (160 GB Classic, 60 GB 5G, 8 GB 2G nano)
  • Wireless keyboard and mouse, in addition to standard keyboard and mouse
  • Dr. Bott MoniSwitch Pro DVI DL switcher box

Like the setup. Nice corner desktop and screen. Very nice organization, it's probably what im going for most, except for not jutting out into the room; more against the wall.

Dude, how are those Bose speakers? They are so small, I'm really curious if the sound they produce is any good. Great setup by the way!

Fixed the tags.

I actually just got a new Sony DSC-W200 lol

It takes really nice photos unless it's dark or there's a bright light (like this one), since I haven't quite figured out how to use it - it keeps overexposing lights.

Thanks!

You're point a camera at a light source - notice how the light is almost perfectly exposed.

Setting fire to your iMac would make the exposure such that it would be better visible. Either that, or turn off that light...

Changing the ISO might help too.

That's outstanding, one of my favorites so far. Not just because the hardware is amazing (which it is) but because you've got it all set up so nicely... I can see that being a really good place to get work done. Kudos!
