Ya got any pics of your setup? I have a motif xs too as well as other equipment just not pictured im thinking about switching it up and putting just the computer stuff all together and then the music studio equipment in another room

There's a picture of my desk a few pages back...it's nowhere near setup properly at the moment. I'm moving in about a month and I'll be in a bigger area with more usable space and purchasing a larger desk more geared towards production. I'm also purchasing more equipment in the time being so I can have everything setup.

oh i know the wires feeling! (grr) but luckily found a way to minimize them, hope you find a way soon.. loving your macbook air! what is it on top of?

Targus laptop cooler. I only turn it on when I have music playing... One of the fans is kinda jammed and makes an annoying buzz sound.

What size monitor is that?

20" Widescreen. 1680x1050 looks real nice on a MBA :)

Wow, that seems like your doing quite intensive stuff on that MBA.

Yep. Making my MBA a primary machine (except for games) is quite taxing on the little machine. lol

lmao. i was about to say the same thing.. is that your MBA running all that?

Well.. the dock isn't ALL the programs running, but I got aperture, quicktime, itunes, vmware fusion, mail and a few others running. The CPU usage is quite low w/ these things running though. The 2 little green bars at the corner shows CPU usage.

Yeah, People generally underestimate things. When the G5s came out my viscom prof was still using a 300Mhz G3 at home for all this stuff. My old college roommate (still at school) does everything on a CD 1.6Ghz Macmini with 1.2GB of rams - and using CS1. He gets by nicely on it.

As for me, my settup hasn't changed much, but I thought I'd post it.

Underestimation is truly an epidemic in this day and age. For a period of around a month, my main computer was a Dell Inspiron 8000, running at a whopping 498MHz. It was decked out with 256MB RAM, a 20GB hard drive, and XP Pro.

Here's the kicker:

It was hooked up to my 17" LCD, an Aluminum keyboard, and a Razer mouse. For those of you keeping track, that's 1400x1050 and 1280x1024 at the same time, running off an 8MB chip.

This wasn't a really long time ago either, just January.

See?

I remember the days when you actually had to physically add extra RAM chips to your S3 Virge to get 1024*768 @ 32bit! I still have at least 2 of those cards...

Well, I was running my Inspiron at 16 bit, so maybe I'm lower-end than I thought......

I'm actually kind of fond of it, to tell you the truth. I mean, who couldn't love blue marble palmrest attachments? :p it's kind of like driving a rusty old beater, and always whining about how much you hate it, but when it finally dies, you're in mourning.

Why don't you like your MBP? Do you ever use it? Seems like Target Disk Mode is kind of a waste of a MBP.....

Whoa, slow down the assumption horse, cowboy. ONE picture doesn't exactly tell you everything about his life. I'm sure he doesn't only use it for Target Disk Mode.

i was using it in target disc mode because i was transferring all my songs to the the powerbook. i had just upgraded the hdd to 160gb.

to be honest, i don't use the mbp all that much. it's not that i don't like it, it's just that the powerbook is so portable and just too cool. my mbp is more of a backup and it's nice to have a current machine that can handle heavy intensive tasks. but for the most part, the little powerbook handles my everyday needs. the imac g4 is a work of art to me.

Well, I can understand that, for sure. The iMac G4 and the little PB are wonderful machines. I used to have a 15" G4 iMac, and I wish I hadn't gotten rid of it. It was the perfect second computer.

So, um, if you don't like the MBP, can I have it? :D

How much did you pay for the iMac?

Right this is a bit complication at the moment.
My MBP has screen problems and needs a new top half due to some moron at school and thats ~£340 so its connected to my tv via VGA @ 1366x760 and controlled over screen sharing on my imac for anything intensive like Photoshop or Illustrator the PMG4 is a media server and will be connected to the tv. The iMac just does basic tasts and remote controls everything else. I also wouldn't mind gettign a 12" iBook one day.

Wow! That's an interesting deal. I saw one just like yours on CL the other day for $50 less, and he doesn't usually have competitive prices.

On the other hand, people in my area will pay $275 for an 800MHz Thinkpad T21....

This is what my desk looks like currently. As you can see I'm waiting for a monitor to plug my Xbox 360 into. I should be getting a 22" Samsung tomorrow, I can't wait!
