Here's my setup. Not much, but hopefully I'll get an extra keyboard and a dual monitor soon.

It is definitely part money-wise, but beyond that is the true purpose, in that I really don't think we need to advance any further. Like I've said many times before, "don't fix what ain't broke." and "we should be happy with what we have, instead of always wanting more."

Man would still be living in caves if everyone had that attitude :)

So, I'm guessing you still drive a Ford Pinto, just because the gas tank hasn't blown up yet.

OK, let me put this in the best way I can. (Which I have explained over and over)

In my perfect world, we would all still be using G3 processors on Mac OS 10.0. No one has bought a new computer for a very long time, unless theirs broke /got stolen, etc.

Since this isn't my perfect world, I am forced (along with the rest of you) to upgrade, per se. And If I'm forced to upgrade, I'd better be satisfied with what I choose. If I had my choice, I would get a "new" iBook G4. Can't do that, so I'm getting an older one.

I shouldn't have brought this up again, and I apologize. Do you have a link to the previous thread with your viewpoints so that people don't feel the need to criticize you when it's already been done in depth? For the record, I disagree with your stance and I think your viewpoint is a bit childish. Your argument would have more merit in my eyes if you thought humans should never have advanced beyond hunter gatherers. The fact that you think we reached a technological and social peak with the G3 and cheetah is nothing short of silly. I don't even know if it's worth responding to. I imagine your viewpoint has something to do with you thinking it's "pretty" and "trendy," and that you can afford it. But, imagine yourself arguing the same case for a Pentium II running Windows ME. Wait until you get out of high school and need a computer for a job, for being productive. "Don't fix what ain't broke" does not apply here. You're argument is to hold people back. I wonder how this stance relates to your views on science, art, medicine, etc. Don't be jealous that you are being left behind. Though, I'm sorry that money is an issue for you in this regard.

For the longest time I thought your posts on this topic were brilliant satire, but sadly I was incorrect.

Sorry for continuing the iBook vs. MacBook comparison, but I wanna throw in my $.02 real quick.

Right now, I'm using an iBook G4 (1.33GHz G4) as my "on-the-go" machine and it's honestly really sluggish when compared to my iMac. (2.4 C2D) That's obvious, but for what I paid for the iBook, I could have just paid a couple of extra hundred and got a refurb white MacBook, which would be WAY faster and look a lot better.

Don't get me wrong, I love my iBook, but the G4's lag way behind when it comes to speed.

Intel switch FTW!

The G4 was great in it's day, but Intel is where it's at now.

Also, I'd much rather have the extra WIDE screen real estate of the MacBook and I, personally, think that a widescreen looks 1000x better than the square-ish shape of the iBook/12" PowerBook.

I love my iBook, but I figure I'll end up upgrading to a MacBook not too far in the future.

Guys, stop picking on Cassie and let him have what he got. As long as he's happy with it and it works for him then its fine for everyone else right?

I'm into newer looks/specs (signature) but theres people out there who likes the old Apple-computers with PowerPC etcetc. And if Cass likes the G4 iBook that's fine? I don't get the problem here.

I hate those optical mice, we should still be using ball mice. They were far superior.

I'm kidding PLEASE don't start a debate over this.
Hah, we should all be using optical trackballs :D Best £75 I ever spent on a pointing device. Not everybody's cup of tea though.

Is that discoloration I see on your MB?
The main reason why white is such a bad colour for something you're going to have your sweaty mits on all day!

My wrist wrests are pretty grimy;

But yesterday somebody pointed out my right shift key;

Obviously, I could care less about keeping it clean & shiny; it's a machine, it's there to be used!

I think I'm gonna be sick ... :D

Seriously though, it doesn't matter what colour laptop you have it's bound to get dirty or have its colour worn away. I've seen it with the BlackBooks; how the area on and around the trackpad has become light grey. And on the MacBook Pros where the aluminium casing ends up covered with small black dots and smudges.

Give it a good clean with a slightly damp cloth and then get down to your local Pound / Dollar store and pick up some disposable gloves - it's your only chance of salvation ... ;)

Couldn't care less. That's why it's covered in crap.
No, I was right. If I couldn't care less then there would still be blood on the keyboard from when I had a surprise nosebleed. Well, there's still dried blood down underneath the keys if you look at the right angle...

Seriously though, it doesn't matter what colour laptop you have it's bound to get dirty or have its colour worn away. I've seen it with the BlackBooks; how the area on and around the trackpad has become light grey.
My 7-yo ThinkPad was still as black as the day it was new when I finally retired it. The reason the BlackBooks wristwrest fades is probably because it's not black plastic, but rather plastic that has been finished in black.

Give it a good clean with a slightly damp cloth and then get down to your local Pound / Dollar store and pick up some disposable gloves - it's your only chance of salvation ... ;)
I don't really see that it's worth the effort. Maybe when it get's so dirty that I can't actually see what's printed on the key tops!

Added mStand, Kensington Slim Keyboard, and built myself a keyboard tray. Also got a USB hub. Threw everything in the trays that just used to get misc papers thrown there. I think it looks a lot better now.

My neck was killing me, and these ergo-changes have helped a lot.

The black is awesome. I had a ibook G4 before this and I never liked how the palm area would get smudged. I know computers are meant to be used and abused, but I couldn't help it! Having the black macbook is a lot less stressful. It is such a HUGE upgrade from the G4.

In six years, you'll probably say "In a perfect world everybody would be using Leopard and Santa Rosa Macbooks." I mean, seriously when have science and technology been "developed"-out?? It's not broke, but there's room for improvement, and why not? It's like saying we shouldn't try to find cures for cancer and just "be happy with what we have". && yeah I think we should be grateful for the material and emotional graces in our lives, but why would that stop science from evolving?

I guess i shouldn't really worry about it since the new macbooks are not painted, so flaking is not an issue anymore

I have had macbooks(yup more then one) ever since the first generation and never came across the flaking issue. It really isn't as common as some people make it sound. Also never had any cracks either. As for dirt showing up on the white its not much better or worse then grease showing up on the blackbooks. Just a couple sprays of monster clean or something similar every so often takes care of all that though. Now as far as my mbp goes i have noticed a bit of paint wearing off just below the left command key.

OK, we've been OT for so long, a mod has had to come in and delete a lot of it.

So let's end this right now. No more discussions of my views on technology. (Pm me if you really want to do that.)

Now, so that this post isn't completely OT, here's a picture of my mini the very night I got it. :)
