You guys know how I have like a bajillion posts in these threads?

I haven't posted my setup very much at all lately. However, in five days, that will all change.

Sneak preview: (Well, specs anyway...)

- One quad-core Jesus box (Q6600, P5K-E, 4GB Corsair, 2 120GB HDDs in RAID, XFX 8600GT, Antec Twelve Hundred case)
- One dual-core disciple box (Pentium D 2.8GHz, 2GB Corsair, 80GB HDD, ASUS 8500GT, Ultra Aluminus case)
- one iBook G4

I can't wait! Yay! :D

Man what a traitor!!!

Just joking but come on really? A PC?!?!

Finally got the mini dvi to dvi adapter and my second lcd is connected. It's a Samsung 22" but I added a Dell adjustable stand I got off eBay for about $10. Much better than the original Samsung stand. Oh, the iMac is a 24" 2.4 with 4gb. Speakers are Logitech z-2300 and they rock! Also have an old pc in the left compartment, but it's only used if I have to log in to work remotely.

How easy was the install of the Samsung on the Dell stand? I've been looking to buy a dell monitor...but didn't know if I wanted to drop that kind of money on it (I want it mainly for the adjustability). I suppose with a Dell stand I could buy a cheapo LCD to go with it.

Two of them, foo:D

Actually, the only reason why I do it is because I love DIY/hands-on stuff. I'll probably not even play games on it, it's just the experience of putting it all together.

I still have the iBook for being awesome though. :)

Sounds fun! Any plans of turing it into a hackintosh?

Um...... take a wild guess:D

Actually, the P5K-E is supposed to be really, really good for turning Hackintosh. I do wish I had the version with built-in wireless though.

I figure these things can run various BOINC projects to make themselves useful.

It's not bad at all. Took maybe 10 mins to measure and then drill holes with the dremel tool. Having four correct lenth screws is the hard thing. I just happend to have four that fit good enough.

Why did you have to drill? Didn't the display and the stand both use a 100x100 VESA mount? You should have been able to use the screws from removing the stand from the Samsung, and then it should line up perfectly with the Dell.

Which side wasn't standard?

well at first i had major problems. but once i formatted the drive and made a partition, it worked perfectly using a time machine backup i had stored on my external hard drive. there was no difference after i installed the new drive from my backup. it was like nothing changed.

^Great setup, may I ask, how seamless did the restore go through Time Machine? Was it all that noticeable of a difference after you installed it (i.e. what didn't the backup restore)?

No, the Dell stand has no holes in it. It has two prongs at the top that insert into the Dell lcd and then the bottom comes down and clicks into position. No tools necessary for a Dell. The screws needed to be longer than the ones that came with the Samsung since the stand doesn't sit exactly flush with the monitor and were too short.

It figures Dell would be non standard. Apple gets to be non-standard because their product has such a great design.

Dell does it to be cheap.

Every LCD on the market with an even remotely standard base should have a 75x75, 100x100 or 100x200 VESA mounting system.

Thanks for the info, that will ensure I don't buy one to get rid of the ugly Samsung base that I have on my 24" LCD.

set up still looks the same, but my MBP now has 2.5 times more hard drive space! :) installed a the wd 320gb hd this weekend.

<snip>

i bought a pair of audio engine A2 speakers, but doubt i'll be using them for the computer. instead i plan on getting rid of my surround sound and connecting them to my TV. speaking of which, what's the easiest/cheapest way to connect my computer to my LCD tv?

my mbp along with the desk at my dad's house (and his first mac)... an air
<snip>
and since i've been asked this a handful of times, the invisible shield in installed on the bottom of my mbp so i don't get anymore scratches.
<snip>

cheers,
m

The area above your superdrive looks a bit bowed.

We´ve got the same speakers :D You should get a bigger desk though, placing your speakers closer to your ears than your feet :p

This is my favorite setup here:

Mac Pro 2.8 with Airport Extreme, two 1TB WD drives, Klipsch THX 2.1 speaker system. 23" ACD.

MacBook 2.4 with 2GB ram and wireless keyboard

16GB iPhone

Picture kinda sucks, taken with iPhone and the lighting in the room is bad.

Other room not pictured has the iMac and MBP.

Is that the MALM chest of drawers from IKEA?
No idea, it came with my apartment.
that has to be fun to play with haha
Slightly... it's way too cramped. I have so much stuff that I can't setup because I don't have enough room.

I wish I could get a bigger desk, but the apartment complex that I live in won't store their furniture for me, so that I can use my own.

I think you should look into shelving above your desk and parallel to the dresser. If you got a piece of wood that you could lay on top of the dresser, and span over your computer to connect to the side wall and the back of the wall, you'd have room for both sets of speakers (if deep enough), your consoles, and cable components, etc.

Then you use 2 surge protector outlet strips. One for all things above the top shelf, and one for all things below. This would help greatly in managing your cables and getting them out of sight. When space is limited, it's always wise to go up. :)

BTW, love your equipment. :)

What is it with the MacPros on top of desk. Is the floor not good anymore?:confused:

I dunno, I've got mine on the floor and it gets no dirtier than it would on top of my desk. And I have it on a flat piece of wood to keep it off of the carpet.

Personally, my desk looks better with the Mac Pro below it. ;)
