How do you get the external monitor as primary and still retain use of the main display?

For a MacBook or MacBook Pro, to get the external as primary go to:

System preferences > Displays > Arrangement.

From here drag the little white strip from the small blue box to the large one, and this will move your Dock and Finder over to the external, making it primary.

ha thats awesome, thanks!

Here's my current setup, which is very bare-bones. Behind that desk is indeed a sliding door. My place is pretty small so I'm limited with my options, but I'm going to be moving it all downstairs and changing the setup in preparation for the arrival of my new iMac :D

Waiting for my iMac...

Nice, but you must be short. :) I wouldn't be able to walk up there, nor lay on the bed.

Add a touch of claustrophobia, and I wouldn't be able to handle that at all. But it sure does look cozy.

I'm about 6' i can just walk in the middle and laying on the bed is fine. The sofa is ok too but anyway, standing up is so 1999.

Then cool deal. I'm about 6' as well, and my feet stick off the end of many beds, and nearly all couches since when I sleep, my arms tend to end up above my head.

I could put an office in a space like that, but don't think I could do the couch/bed part.

When I finally buy my next house, I'll be looking for better office space than the place I have now.

Well, here's my new setup. It arrived two days earlier than scheduled, so I can play with it over the weekend! :D
