I wish...

I wish I could afford a Mac! Instead I have this:

Its really fast but it has Windows Vista!
It also has Ubuntu, but my WiFi doesnt work so only use Vista now!
It is also my Web Server for my site:
http://jakes.is-a-geek.com
I just got ads on the site to help raise money for an actual monitor for the computer! And for more storage!

I thought I'd posted this a while back, but can't remember:

That's a few months old, I need to get a new picture taken; there's a few more games, the Airport Extreme has been replaced with a Time Capsule, the black WD drive is now a shelved backup and I don't have all the other crap on the desk anymore. :D

Love the dual screen, getting the new cinema display for xmas!

Um, you do know that the new cinema display can't connect to either Mac you have there, right? There's adapters to connect *older* (DVI) monitors to the *new* MacBooks, but there aren't any to connect the *new* mini DisplayPort monitors to the *older* Macs...yet.

Okay - per request, I took some additional pics - the material is dark, and matte - so it's hard to get pics of. But, it does look nice, IMO (in person). Its also comfortable, and you don't stick to it in humid weather. I usually don't eat at my desk - but if I did, I could imagine it would get very messy. So if you chow @ the comp a lot - take it into consideration. You also have to vacuum it - which isn't too bad - mainly just gets funny looks from on watchers.

The carpet is automotive-style - it's fairly thin, and easy to stretch/form - it is very forgiving on contours and edges. Its acquired at a car stereo place - or anywhere that sells fabric. That said - it's not very durable - but I don't do anything that requires this on my desk, so it's okay. The desk itself was very old (60-80 years by my guess - considering I found a newspaper clipping inside it that said "Surprise Attack By The Japs!" - Pearl Harbor) Anyhow - I didn't have the resources (or desire) to refinish the top. (it was in very poor shape, trust me) So I got a can of 3M spray-adhesive, hit the carpet backing and one side of the desk - had a friend hold it, and then coated the rest, and stretched / laid it down. It is very tight, with no bumps or anything. Once you put it down - its not coming back up without a fight. Hence, the friend to hold it.

Another advantage I found was, it stopped a lot of glare - which is great when watching movies / gaming in the dark. Also useful for taking photos of things for posting here, or on ebay. ;)

Okay, time to stop rambling, and get down to it:

Note - for an iMac - you'll need to buy the VESA adapter plate from Apple.

Closing notes - Clock Screen Saver: Look @ my iPhone. :D

Is that a modified ibm laptop keyboard?

THAT is one fantastic command center sir ;) I'd love to mount my monitors on an arm or the wall, but don't really have the guts to drill into my studs and have them stuck in one position forever

I was thinking of doing something like this for my External HDs

Awesome idea btw, except your speaker (center?) is under the desk
How does that sound?

LOL honestly, the center speaker is almost all the time turned off because I don't like the 5.1 logitech decoder for playing music. I only turn it on when I watch movies and it sounds ok because I watch movies far from the screen.
