Yeah it's a little weird at first, but it's not totally blacked out--I have three glass sliding doors to a balcony as well as four fusuma, or traditional Japanese sliding doors--three for the closet (one whole wall), and one for the entrance to the room so it's not totally black.

do u have pictures ?

The more I see this display in a setup like this the more it makes me wonder why they didn't cater properly for the notebooks. If it was truly designed for use with them, the stand would have been redesigned to accommodate them sitting on a shelf underneath or something.

I'm not saying your setup looks bad, it's just that Apple could really have made this perfect for laptop owners and they didn't.

I've had this thread bookmarked for weeks waiting for my new Cinema Display to arrive so I could get everything set up... :D

Sorry it's not zoomed in closer, for some reason the only flash options on our new digital camera are 'Auto' and 'Off', and I had a lot of trouble getting the colors to come out right.

True, although the reason i chose the stand i chose is because it exposes the vents (on bottom of my Macbook) to air cooling. If i were able to stick it underneath the monitor, it might not dissipate heat efficiently.

I see a lot more people using their Macbooks open and extending to a second monitor than using their Macbooks in clamshell mode...is that a definite preference? I've considered rearranging my setup to use the Macbook as a secondary display to my external, but haven't gotten up the nerve yet. :D

Its just personal preference. I like it in clamshell to look at the logo :p (looks nice when closed). Also i find the colors to be different between the LED ACD and macbook so it looks a little off if i use extend. Sometimes i also prefer the desktop look with laptop mobility, if ya know what i mean.

Nothing beats watching house, especially on dual 30"s! Nice setup!
