crazyrog17, that's an AMAZING idea!!! lights on the back of the speakers. That way no mounting on the desk and the cables would route with the speaker cables!!

Thanks! Yep, the cables all meet behind the subwoofer. I have the controller attached to the side of the desk near the back. Think of it like the iMac's power button.

Haha, yeah. You should have seen the way the OS looked before I reverted back to the classic XP look - I had object dock and junk on it so people actually looked at it and were like "are you running MAC?!" (I tried the hackintosh thing, but my hardware is not compatible :p)

The Dell is just my portable for school now, 95% of my work is done on my iMac now including running any windows apps I need in VirtualBox

You should try PearPC, it will let you install tiger as a VM. Depending on your hardware that is. Most P4+ processors are supported.
I had it running on my old AMD eMachines. It was VERY slow, but worked. Takes a bit of time and trial/error to get it set up right but I had Tiger on my machine ;)
(I used the linked guide to get it done)

After going through all 61 pages of this thread while waiting for my MacBook Pro to get here, I came up with the design for my set up.

I saw a lot of posters using the IKEA Dioder light sets. Their setups intrigued me because I like the idea of having multicolored ambient light. The price really deterred me at $50 for the four piece straight light bar set which seemed too bright anyways. I almost missed the four piece round light set when looking around. At $40, it seemed more reasonable, so I grabbed a box and headed for the checkout (and the cinnamon rolls...).

They fit perfectly on the back of my Altec Lansing FX6021 right and left speakers. The light shines off the wall and provides good ambient light for night time use. Another cool thing is they look wicked with matching desktop pictures. The desk is a cheap MDF office outlet special that I tore down to just the basic top, sides and tray. After what seemed like a good hour wrangling the cables, cords and wires (which still don't look very good), I snapped a few pictures.

In the pictures:
-2.8GHz MacBook Pro (320GB HD, 4GB RAM)
-Altec Lansing FX6021 2.1 Sound Set
-750GB Iomega FW800/400, USB2.0, eSATA External Hard Drive
-IKEA Dioder (201.199.32)

On the keyboard tray:
-Apple Aluminum Wireless Keyboard
-iPod Touch 1stGen (running iTap: trackpad application)
-Apple Remote

Camera used:
-Canon PowerShot A560

Great setup! It looks like those lights are PERFECT for what you need! I prefer the strips in my case (you can see the setup a few pages back) because i need to cover a larger surface.
Oh I know what you mean about the matching backgrounds! My favorite one is green because it just looks so awesome with the black bezel.

Thanks! It was your post that first inspired me to do this. The only things the lights don't do is let you program your own colors and bump to the music! I'll be looking into some USB pulse width modulators when free time comes my way (ha).

that iMac must be a screamer

It's insanely snappy.

All my applications (with the exception of X-Plane) are installed to the SSD. Intel makes an X25-M version of the drive however the write times are less than half the X25-E. Can't wait until a 64GB or larger version of the X25-E comes out!

A 32gb iphone and a Dell Mini 9 running OSX, what have you been puffin?

Here's the how-to on installing OSX on the Mini 9.

http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/howto-install-os-x-the-right-way-type11-boot132-v7-9-t1106.html

Everything works out of the box with this install including the built in card reader.

I recently purchased the LCD lid from an old PB off ebay and as soon as I've got time, will pull the Apple logo from it and cut it into the Mini's LCD lid making my conversion complete!

Haha, I bet! Great set up you got there. My father just picked up the new MBA, leaving the Windows scene.

Your Dad just went from the girl next door to a Playboy Bunny with that purchase! IMHO, there is no sexier laptop than the MBA!

Even as a 100% Mac guy, I still need to keep my foot in the Windows door... and mostly on the server side of things. I've played around with Windows 7 on the Mini and it's impressed me so far.

I own 2 Mini's, the one with OSX is closed and just to the left.

Nice. I have a Latitude X1 knocking about from a few years ago, but it won't run OS X (well, not in any sort of useful way). Might have to invest in a Mini 9 at some point to make an OS X netbook myself. ;)
