May I ask what speakers those are?

G5 on the left, dual 2.5 ghz, 4 gigs of RAM

Mac Pro on the right, octo 3.0 ghz, 32 gigs of RAM

Has anyone noticed that the Pro is positioned so that when the chair is up enough to type, you can stradle it?

Just sayin.....;)

what scope??

Leica DM IRB, Hamamatsu ORCA ER, incubation chamber, multiple cubes, running OpenLab 5.5

Makes Safari 'snappy.'

Is that a desk made out of marble slabs? Trying to dampen vibrations or just something you had lying around?

yeah, it's marble with cork feet to dampen vibrations, about 300 pounds and about 50 years old, stole it from under an electron microscope. the scope is on vibration isolation too. you can kick the marble table as had as possible and don't get any drift on the field of view.

Woooooow. What do you do, if you don't mind me asking? That's a lot of RAM in that tower.

real-time visualization of macromolecular protein complex formation. I take 12 megapixel images at up to 30-60 fps, store the images in RAM during the time-course.

$12,799.00:eek:

> $200,000 with the accessories

yeah, the room gets cold, have to keep the boys happy

Lab work requires a fast computer... bet he wants 64GB of ram with 16 cores :D

what I really need is a MacBook Pro with comparable specs, but grant money won't cover laptops.

My setup.

You know, I still like the old Pro keyboard, dispite all of the critisizm saying its mushy or whatever. Its so white. But its not only that, I think the feel of it is awesome. It just feels right. I wish I had one, I only got to try it because they had one paired with an aluminum iMac at the NAIAS. (North American International Auto Show)

Nice! Here's what I use.

obligatory iPhone in picture (bottom right) to keep it Mac-related. :)

what are the specs on the JP4 cube? Also, if you don't mind me asking, what proteins are you looking at FRAP on?

Also, does your heated stage actually work well? I tried using one but had to switch to the incubation chamber because I was getting vertical oscillatation (+- 20 nm or so) from the magnetic filed and thermal expansion generated by the coil.

Finally, are you running everything on DC or AC?

LOL... I wish I had even a clue about what you're talking about. :p
