I used to have this Compaq in the late 90's:

57667-20574b.jpg

The reason i buy it was because: It looked cute and was cheap "at the time"

Intel Celeron 667MHz

But it sucked so badly! The thing made noise every-time i opened an application on Windows 98SE but hey!... the case looked quite nice at the time but still reminded me of the PowerMac G3 that i wished to have in the past, but instead i got that piece of trash Compaq which got infected with viruses twice a day.

The worst computer i've ever owned in my life... I upgraded the thing to Windows ME and things got worst then i expected... Infected with viruses named "Nimba@32mm.exe" and crash everywhere... Man... it was useless... nothing but troubles... i hated it!

Now it's in the dump since 2006.

Very very bad computer experience... I will never buy a Compaq again.

My ex's parents used that computer in their office. They decided to give it to me since they never used it anymore. I found out it had windows ME which is the worst windows OS ever.
Just parted out the computer for IDE cables, hard drives, and whatever else I could use.
It booted XP in like 15 minutes.

OMG!!! I remember those... almost everyone who I knew with a PC had one, or one like it!!!

I on the other hand, was a little mac user... and had a Macintosh Performa.. much much blander... but so so much cooler... I still remember OS7!!!

At that point, I didn't need alot of power from my computer... but god, those Laser Writer printers were a bull for the wallet!!!

This is such a cool, clean setup..I want it :(
Thanks :)

I am SO seriously considering doing this.

What is the battery life like under OS X? What works? What doesn't?
Battery life on mine is +-2:45 (3 cell battery)
But i'm waiting for the 6 cell battery i ordered which has a battery life of 6 hours.

Everything seems to work:
- Wifi
- Bluetooth
- Sound
- Native screen resolution (1024x600)
- Trackpad
- Two finger scroll & side scroll
- Webcam
- And everything else...

Wait, I thought HP stopped making computers in the name of Compaq. Why does that Mini have Compaq written on it?
HP still make Notebooks with the Compaq branding.

By the way, where did you buy that? When I click the link on the Compaq website, it takes me to HP's...

I bought it on the HP Europe website

The Compaq mini 700 is basically the same as the HP mini 1000 (same hardware).
I bought the Compaq because it looks better ;)

Yeah they are great little netbooks, though I prefer the HP top case the design of the compaq is different and not as good to look at.

Compared the acer aspire one we have the hp is much nicer. I didn't have a chance to put os x on it to try out.

Oh wow. I had one of those before. Intel Celeron 600MHz w/ 64MB ram. Used it for 3 years and never crapped on me. It was amazing, I even gamed on its 4 MB integrated intel video card.

The HP netbook is much better aesthetically, however, the Acer costs $369 while the HP costs $549 last I saw.

Is the HP netbook easier to put OS X on? No need to replace the wifi card like in the Acer?

Why does GM manufacture and market the exact same cars under different names and with different badges?

Brand loyalty. Yes. Some people still buy Compaqs. It's the same as the Chevy purists who will pick a Silverado over a GMC Sierra any day.

except for the fact that they look different... yeah

if only it were wireless keyboards

True but... the wired is more responsive and precise.

Maybe i was unlucky at the time. But the thing crapped me each time i turn the thing on. All you can see was the blue screen of death... nothing more.

...And less annoying  Don't know how many times I've had to reconfigure my bt keyboard bc it wouldn't pair...

My only issue with the wireless mighty mouse is that i had to check "discoverable" on the bluetooth list when the thing doesn't respond. So i had plug the wired one or use the track pad in order to check "discoverable".

I thought we were talking about keyboards??
I've had no issues with my BT MM, its been great.
The keyboard is what gives me hell
