What kind? With everything off, if you put your ear up to the top of mines theres a small hum on any brightness, but not enough to really notice.
Oh, well mines pretty loud.

If you goto down to zero on the brightness, it makes an audible hum.

I might go return mine now :p

I doubt that is real bamboo.

Well of course not, actual bamboo would be much larger and grow much faster. They are in the same family though, much like "cinnamon" that you cook with is not actually cinnamon, but the bark from a similar tree that is much cheaper to grow and harvest ;)

I add a small pinch of cheapo plant food to my water about every 3-4 months, bc i read somewhere that its good for the plant. For more info on caring for your lucky bamboo see here. :p

Trying for a minimalist approach...

Almost everything from IKEA. Huge IKEA table, good for uni work. Side table where my Macbook Late 2008 sits on along with all the gizmos, etc. Out of my sight from where I sit so it gives the sense that its not even there.

Lovely IKEA lamp. I like the detailing and look of the lamp.

Dee & Rickey Heart Brooch sits on the lamp's base. (The one KanYe West rocks quite often)

I think its one of the cheapest ones... VIKA AMON. Legs are separate. Its a good desk as you can buy different options like having little draws instead of the leg, etc etc

Awesome, thanks! I'm off to uni in september hopefully so will need to look for some of this stuff.... most of my furniture at home will be left here probably.

Update to my office desk.

The monitor on the right is for the iMac. The monitor on the left is for a quad core dell that I only use for a few internal windows applications, SQL management studio, and occasionally running visual studio. I used to have windows in parallels but wanted a second monitor just for mac stuff and had an extra dell so figured I would just use that for windows. The computers are connected using synergy.

The only usability disadvantages I have found with moving from one machine with windows in a vm to two machines is that synergy for mac doesn't transfer the clipboard if it contains non-text data (even stuff copied from a web-page). This isn't a big deal for me as it still transfers grid data (specifically from SQL management studio (pc) to excel (mac)). The few times I need to copy web-page content I just paste it into text edit and then re-copy. The advantages are the third monitor and the speed increase on my mac from not running on a VM using 1.5GB of ram. If I had a decked out mac pro this obviously wouldn't be a problem, but when using an iMac this is a great solution.

You should try it on my G4:D

When Dad gets home from work I'm going to try OS X on his Core 2 Duo Dell laptop. It is a White MacBook without the 9400m but with a 15" inch screen. It is also cheaper. Might get one if the "experiment" works.

Mom's Thinkpad would not work.

No offense, but I could never use a 16:9 screen like that Dell. Would be just too strange for me.
