My Bedroom/living/Office

I have my PowerBook G4 12" connected to a Samsung SyncMacster 170MP, along with my XBox (Below PB) and regular Cable tv also connected to it. I usually watch tv as shown, with the tv on the PIP. I have external HD next to the XBox. If a need to, I put the keyboard and mouse below in the pull out drawer and put the piano keyboard on top. :)

I wonder what the G5 imacs will look like?
Im one of those that secretly hopes for the return of the Cube.

I took some shots when I got my G5 set up - easier to link you than to post them inline in here:

I hope this clears up the confusion

that doesn't look like a mac. did u mod one, or build your own out of spare parts?
Nspace said:
It looks to me like one is a PC in a Lian Li case, similar to the one in my photo, and then he has the Powerbook there on the desk. If that is indeed a mac that is an impressive mod :)
Brother Michael said:
Looks like a modded Mac. If you look at the monitor there is a Dock meaning that it is not connected to the Powerbook (at least I thought you couldn't put a Dock on a second monitor).
Nspace said:
It looks to me like the Powerbook is just setup for dual monitors. I don't see a monitor cable going into the mid tower case. We will have to wait and see.
Wow, the Apple logo on my PC case's window sure caught people's attention. :) Not my intention.

You're right, it's a Lian Li case, Nspace. It's my FreeBSD server box. It's an AMD Athlon XP 2100+ 1.73 GHz computer. And you're right, it isn't hooked up to any monitors. It's simply a headless server. I connect to it via ssh.

The only Macintosh you see is my Macintosh PowerBook G4 15" 1.25 GHz. It is hooked up to the 19" screen for dual screen set up (drool.. soon the 23" aluminum cinema). You can have the dock on any monitor, you just have to decide which one is the primary screen. You do that by going to the System Preferences and moving the menubar to the other screen.

my setup

OK, here is my new setup. Yes, it's DIRTY because that's what a REAL work environment looks like. I'd love to have a clean desk that looks like it has never been used, but it's tough!

What you see: 20" Cinema Display, 40gig 4g iPod, Sony Ericsson T610, Apple Wireless Keyboard / Mouse (dead), 12" Powerbook (now used to keep my coffee warm because it's so damn HOT), a 49e midi keyboard, soundsticks, and a G5 2.0ghz with 1gig of ram under the desk.

Also, I have the Panther book on the desk because I was trying to figure out why my bluetooth mouse died after only 3 weeks!

Oh yeah, the desk is from Target.com. I am obsessed with owning the "perfect desk", and this is (by far) the best one I've owned. It was only $99 too!

EDIT: Forgot to include my "old Macs":

1. Original Bondi iMac
2. iBook SE (Graphite)
3. G3 B&W
4. G4 (forgot what it was called, the dark blue one, Sawtooth was it?)
5. G4 Cube 450mhz
6. 12" Powerbook
7. G5 2.0ghz

I also have a 128k Mac, I used to have an Apple IIe and I still have a 266 G3 Beige tower, but that one doesn't count!

nice setup...very nice can you take some more pics..at maybe a slightly more um,,, conventional angle??

Haha, yeah -- since my apartment is as big as a walk-in closet, everything is crowded so it's hard to take a decent pic. Maybe when I move in a couple months I can have a more comfortable work space!

Nice setup. Love the wood.

Would look nice with some highend lighting. http://www.lightmyworld.com

Thanks for the link, I am into art and while I like my setup, since I am in the basement it lacks sunshine and good lighting for work that is not done on the computers.

I will definately check this place out, I am in need of some good lighting, at least over my art table.

Thx for the comments.

so what do you think about the 170MP? i was looking into getting one myself. how does it work as a tv? as a monitor?

it's great as a computer monitor

As far as a tv though, it is only ok. If you sit right up next to it you really see the pixels and it looks really fuzy, but that is only in full screen mode. The only time I watch it like that is when I am lying in bed about 10 feet away and it looks perfect from there, really bright colors that jump out. What I usually do when I am on the computer is use the PIP. When I do that it looks perfect and crystal clear in the chair. There are 3 different options for the size of the PIP and you can move it to anyway on the screen, also, you can select whatever audio-in you want. So if you want to watch tv in the PIP but have the sound come from the computer, that is possible.

The only thing that was really disappointing about this screen was the auxiliary AV. I have an XBox with the S-Video adapter, so I assumed that since this screen had the S-video in and was digital, it was going to have a good picture....I was wrong. I noticed no different between the analog and s-video options. It's sorta the same as with the tv, if I sit up in my computer chair, it is really unclear because nothing is crisp, but from the bed it is fine. One thing it does have is a pretty good contrast ratio, so games that are really dark play pretty well. I was worried about the refresh time as well, but I haven't had any problems with that.

Over all, I am really happy with this screen especially because it has a remote so I can use it from bed just like a regular tv, which saved me a lot of space in my room. I have it hooked up to my stereo speakers, the speakers that are built-in are not great, as it always is. It does everything I was hoping it would do and that is all I can ask. I got it at tigerdirect.com for $470 or so, pretty good deal I thought. If you have anymore questions, just e-mail me, hope that helped. :)

Mac cost me $300 used got this year. Soon will sell on eBay (probably $200 if anyone interested) and will be getting a eMac, get a hack and then have dual monitors ;) iPod also pictured...

Home sweet home

On this one you can see the old G3 in the back.
I still keep it close. Just in case I needed to find some of my old stuff.
But with its huge 12 Gig HD it's not of a big use even as a backup machine.

The G5 is computing heaven tough. :)

Finally…

…I get to post my new desktop along my old one.
I just got my new dual G5 2Ghz with 1.5 Ghgz of RAM a month ago and I was so busy I could not take a decent pic.
Hard to belive that only six months separate those two pictures.
I have invested a great lot in apple lately.

:p

I have a couple. A G5 in my home office and an iMac Snow in the bedroom. My 12" PowerBook floats from room to room where needed and travels with me too. First thing I look for in a hotel is high speed internet access :)

Oh, the iMac is still pretty new to me. I found it brand new in the box at a CompUSA a few months ago for $600. It is only used for the internet and iTunes.

Ah the red chair

Yes I also did invest in a new chair. I really love that thing and my back loves it even more. It's a pro active chair, meaning it moves along with you. Keeps your back muscles working. After a long day glued to my screen I can really feel a difference. You can see more about it on the brand's homepage:

I also like the looks of it. What do you want I love great design. ;)

I like how you switched the keyboard and mouse on the two systems, looks much better. The white almost matches the iMac perfect and the black keybaord goes well with your office setup.

The white keyboard and mouse actually came with the iMac. It is the pro version. I HATE the new keyboard and mouse that came with my G5. When Apple first announced that they weren't going to be making the pro style anymore, I bought a black pro keyboard and mouse so I'd have it when I got the G5.

here is mine, i didn't do a good job of compressing it. its in an old junk room in the house. basically i got a dual 1.8 g5 with a 20" display. 19 samsung hooked up to is as well. little tv up there. then i have a 21" applevision monitor hooked up to my gaming pc. its pretty messy but i don't really care.

Here's my lowly setup.

Pictured are:

Late 2001 iBook G3/600, 384 MB RAM, installed my own 5200 RPM 40 GB drive
1G iPod (5 GB)
harman/kardon speakers (ripped off a Dell in the house)
vTech 900 MHz cordless phone (so as not to interfere with Airport)
Motorola T720
Logitech Cordless Optical Mouse (USB)

Not pictured are:

Canon i960 Photo Printer (left of desk, on floor)
20" Panasonic TV (directly behind camera)
Some old Yamaha stereo amplifier
Ohm "L" model stereo speakers

...and that should about do it. :D
