14" ibook G4 1.33/768 ram/160 gig samsung hd (upgrade)/leopard

the ibooks are kinda starting to not age well in the looks department much like the titanium powerbooks, the ibooks just seem kinda square and non hipster

I think they've aged incredibly well & still look far better than even what Dell or Sony are putting out to this day.

Agree completely. For most people, they are hard to tell apart from the Macbooks, even unibody ones.

The iBook was even more stable than the plastic MacBook and plastic unibody MacBook. The G3 iBook with the semi-transparent keyboard was the best looking. However, the plastic changed its color from white to yellowish over the years. I sold mine (sadly) some years ago and went for a more stable 12" PowerBook, which still goes strong today.

mine looks like new,i highly doubt any "hipster" (whatever the heck that is) would be able to tell the diff from mine and a macbook...also as a person who has owned more then my fairshare of ibooks and powerbooks,i find the ibooks to be a lot quieter...the fans on the powerbooks simply stay on longer and make more noise!

ps: to anyone with a ibook,if you don't mind $ and time involved...a newish ide harddrive is the way to go...i replaced mine with a samsung 160 gig ide,and it makes a big difference in speed and noise (no more old ibook click click harddrive)

In all fairness, he stated a "MacBook", not a MacBook Pro. The MacBooks are the white plastic laptops, not the aluminum. But here is a pic of some of the older ones and the iBook does look similar.

except for the keyboard. you can easily tell the difference if you are into macs and you have a keen eye. but for common folks they look the same.

dont get me wrong, i too have a 12" 1.33GHz iBook G4, and most of the time people would mistake it for an MB.

In all fairness, that is a macbook not a macbook pro, so please refrain from quoting me with the wrong information

True, but those aluminium unibody MacBooks were 'renamed' as the 13" MacBook Pro's in mid 2009, only 6 months after their introduction. Apple then released the unibody plastic variants that stuck around until 2010. I don't think people had the aluminium's in mind when comparing with the iBook.

finally someone who makes a bit of sense around here,

finally someone who makes a bit of sense around here,

So when I was comparing a white plastic notebook to a line of notebooks, the vast majority of which was white plastic, you immediately assumed that I was referring to an aluminum model that existed only as a special edition?

Doesn't make sense to me.

Yes I just realized he used a picture of the later MacBook.

I think the original remark was made to compare his iBook with a white plastic MacBook. Does anyone, even you Lil Chillbil, really think he was making a comparison from his white plastic iBook to an aluminum Macbook? I was simply pointing out that he was obviously was referring to the white MacBook.

Also, I meant no offense to your statement. I did not, even for a second, consider the fact that you were trying to be clever with your reply. I thought you may have actually not realized what he meant. Listen, I am getting old and have used Macs for a long, long time. You are still very young and and I am 21 years removed from highschool, so I am not as quick as I used to be. Be patient with me. Someday you will be old too. ;)

That's quite true. At least I have forgotten about the Aluminium MacBook... However, The plastic of the white MacBooks was always a little softer, and thus prone to scratches and dents. I really disliked the keyboard of the plastic MacBooks. It was hard to type and mine looked awful after a year or so. Never had those problems with the white iBooks. I owned a G3 with a transparent keyboard and the last G4 model that was produced. I selled both because I needed the money. My PowerBook G4 1.5 GHz is loud, yes, but I don't think it is particular louder than the other iBooks I owned.

This is my sole (and first personal) PowerPC Mac. It's a 2003 1.25GHz MDD G4 running 10.5 Leopard with 1.5 GB of RAM and 240 GB of drive space and it's driving a 17" Studio Display. I use it to write papers and engineering memos and play around in photoshop cs2 and is my iTunes server in the summertime. I'm using a 2009 27" i5 iMac and 2007 2.16 C2D MacBook for MATLAB code and physical modeling in my coursework. I love it to death… Just wish I could find a dual 1.42 card and copper heat sink for it! :apple:

I finally found a picture of my G4 Sawtooth I used from 2000 to... I really do not remember when! In it's later years I upgraded the CPU from the original 450mhz to a 1.5 Ghz. It was, and still is a great computer. I still like the case design, though it would get quite hot sometimes, and I think the case would still be a hit today.

And again, here is the G5 Quad I listed in an earlier post. My favorite PPC Mac ever. I still have it in storage and I am seriously considering bringing back for duty as I am working on something PPC related.

This machine would have been scary to price when all the hardware was first available. Of course some of what you see was not available for years after.

Forgetting the computers... What spec is the bike?

I'll bite. What is it?

Well, don't get excited as it is nothing very useful. It has to do with the older game, Virtual Grand Prix 2 which I worked a bit on after its initial release. I am still working out some of the production details and nothing is set in stone. I definitely do this one in my spare time. There are a lot of hurdles to go through to get this done so there is a very good chance nothing will ever come of it, hence the small amount of information I give on it. It's not worth announcing anything when it is still so far away.

Oh that's my new Trek 1.1 that I got at the Trekfest event like a week ago. It's pretty basic with Shimano 2300 drivetrain but I'm just starting road biking and I absolutely love it and it fits me great! I've also got a 2012 Trek Gary Fisher Mamba 29er with Shimano Alivio shifters, Acera front derailleur, and Deore XT rear (which I got for a bargain to upgrade over the stock Deore). I love my bikes as much as my other babies (my Macs)!
