Holy cow man, how LOUD are those? nice lack rack!

Nice space Eyoungren. Redhat, Yep - it sure is. I found it on CL for $40 last year. It came with the clunky ADC to DVI converter too so I thought it was quite a deal :) I've been using it ever since. Great monitor - love the color. If I could find a 2nd locally, I'd pick it up but the ones on ebay are stupid expensive (or maybe I'm just cheap) because of shipping. Anyhow, below is my current computer/mancave set up.

BTW - Cool 8-track, Gamer! :D

Believe me, it is crazy expensive at my location... even when there is no need for shipping.
I have a 17". The 23" is inexistent over here.

I was standing back in the far corners of the area to get wider pics.

It's not a small area, but it isn't that big either. And since the newsroom and the "kitchen" area are right behind where I sit it's not rectangular either (there's a trangle sliced out of it.). But It's big enough.

It used to be MUCH smaller in the sense that there was not a lot of room. We had giant slanting racks set up that held our newpaper pages. Once we stopped doing our own printing we didn't need those anymore and so I got all that space back.

I like it when there is a kind of ' L ' shape rather than just rectangular, like how your imac 17" is a bit hidden...
Anyway, enjoy !

The one above the raid box... it controls the the raid array is it ?
Mine is the Xserve G4.

Nice 1.33ghz there. I recently obtained one of same...but nothing like as pristine condition as yours ! Forgotten pw, cracked hinge, unbeliavably dirty, non funtional optical drive...

Had to TDM to install 10.4

No too bad, they're only on when I need to back anything up, the top one is the quietest as the fan unit in it is oddly quieter then the others

The intel one currently has an issue where it thinks one of the front fans is not working so it speeds all the others up to 100% which is very loud, I'll have to get a new fan unit for it at some point.

The top one is the controller and the 2nd one is an identical spare (dual 2.3 G5, 4GB, 4x 400GB)

The bottom one with 1 drive bay is also a dual 2.3 but is the cheaper "cluster Node" version with no dvd drive

The iBook is almost new looking, I got it for £15 and it only has faint "cleaning" scratches and still has the rubber feet plus a decent 3rd party battery - which works for about 4 hours.

I just came home from buying an 2009 Intel Xserve only to realize how deep they are .

Do you mind posting a picture (side or back of the rack ) on how you resolved this with your Lack rack setup ?

This is still in a bit of state of flux, but it's getting there. It also is DESPERATELY in need of a clean-up, which will come once I have everything settled.

The monitors-as can be seen-are a pair of 23" HD Acrylic displays. I have a 30" aluminum sitting in the room, but it's just too large for this set up. I might still try to shoehorn it into place, but it's not a top priority at the moment(as much as I've lusted after the 30"s and now have a couple in my possession, it seems a shame to not use one).

In any case, this range of Apple Studio/Cinema displays through the end of the aluminum LCD era were all 100 ppi, which is desirable to me. For one thing, it avoids small text, and another is that different sized monitors work well together. I was using a MUCH smaller footprint 20" 1920x1080 monitor for a few days, but aside from the different color profile vs. the Apple monitors this higher PPI drove me crazy.

The G5 is a dual 2.7. It has an X800XT video card, which can drive an ADC monitor plus an additional DL-DVI monitor. Needless to say, the right display is running off an A1006, although it can easily drive a 30."

I'm using an Apple Extended Keyboard via a Griffin iMate. The Extended was a recent acquisition-I've been using an AEKII here for a while. I have to say I like the Extended a lot better than the AEKII, although I may buy another Spacesaver M yet for this computer.

The 9600/200MP is currently idle. Unfortunately, with the second 23" display I don't have room for a keyboard and mouse for it(I did have an AEKII and Apple Mouse parked here). Also, the old Dell LCD I was using made things easy as I could switch between it and the other computer just by toggling input selection.

I'm currently fighting SCSI on the computer to drive a slide scanner. I THINK I've narrowed it down to a PowerDomain 29160N, which is readily available on Ebay(at least at the moment). Getting SCSI working on a G5 can be a nightmare in terms of compatible cards vs. a G4(where pretty much any random Adaptec card will work).

The Coolscan V sitting on top of the 9600 is my workhorse scanner.

The CanoScan 8400F on the floor has served me faithfully for quite a while(I got it new in February 2006) but I have an Epson V700 on the way. The Canon will likely be retired at least from film scanning duties and will be set up only for flats. It has scanned a lot of slides and medium format for me, but there's no denying that the Epson was what I WANTED to get even when this one was new(although I think the 4990 was current at the time). Aside from them being all around better, the V700 opens the door for me to large format film and also allows high volume scanning of 35mm and medium format(I think it can do 9 or 12 slides, 4 strips of 35mm, or two strips of medium format).

Not sure if it counts but here is my Power Mac Quad w 10GB ram 120GBSSD and Quadro 4500 (flashed) running 10.5.8. On the left my 2009 Mac Pro flashed to 5,1 running 10.12.3 on a 240GB ssd and 16GB ram with the original GT 120 and a PC Zotac 750ti. Also it has both a USB 3.1 and 3.0 card.

How do you use the PowerBook mounted on the wall :D
Hahahaha, LOL!

That's the back cover to my first 17" PowerBook's screen. I keep it as a reminder of how seriously those GD hooks inside tore my hands up and how miserably I failed in replacing the LCVD cable and getting the LCD back together.

Eventually I will string some lights in there so it lights up and has a soft halo effect around the edges. That's always been my intent for it anyway. :D

Nice setup!

Did you switch to the G5 from your QS?
(Sorry, haven't been around for a while)
Yes. I could not get it working properly after the PSU died. A member here donated a DC 2.3Ghz G5 and paid the shipping which was extremely nice of him.

But UPS turned the case into a trapezoid and bent one handle and pushed in the front grill. It would not chime when I plugged it in.

But I found someone on craigslist local to me that had a 2.3Ghz with no HD, no ram and no video card. I figured, what the hell, and gave the guy $50. If it had not worked I could have transferred the innards of the first G5 into a good case.

But it worked, so now I have spare parts for it.

One other member has gifted me a 2.7Ghz DP G5. I am waiting for those who will deliver it to arrive in Arizona when I can go pick it up. And, I have paid shipping on a Quad G5. I am just waiting for that Mac to arrive.

So, yes, three G5's have replaced my QS. I will be putting IDE drives back in that Mac and seeing if it will function as an offsite server.

That's a sad story My Dual 2.0 G5 died two years ago, I'm now using a Dual 1.25GHz MDD with an SSD and it's awesome, but I'd really like another G5

I would have loved to continue using it, but I just think that I was asking too much of it.

I got tired of working inside the QS more than I was using it and the returns on my efforts were diminishing.

The G5 I have now has everything stock that I had to add cards to the G4 to get and the processor is faster and dual core. When the Quad gets here it will be faster still.

Powermac G5 2.3Ghz Dual Core. 3.5GB ram. 2x1TB SATA (second drives is for TM backups).

Cloned from the drive in my Quad, which in the Quicksilver for a few years, and before that was cloned from the PowerMac G5 at work.

So, several forks off a drive that was originally Panther in 2005.

The DC is going to be used as a secondary graphics station and as a document station.
