I'm wondering if there's any truth in them just not claiming to have them by phone. I just checked Bluewater again and got the same standard answer 'not shipping until the 28th' without even bothering to check or ask anyone.

Thats what I was thinking, when I spoke to the Regents street store they said not until October like robots....I wouldn't be surprised if they are selling them as we speak over at regents street.

My pre-order is still just that - a pre-order, expected to ship around the 28th.

Personally, I hope it stays that way. If it ships before this Tuesday I won't be able to cancel it so easily if it turns out that an affordable 16GB 3G iPhone with a non-ridiculous O2 tariff is announced...

If that does happen, and the sums add up, it's iPod-Touch-Cancelocity round my place...

Hope for UK orders?

I just checked my order... I can still cancel but the engraving and gift message stuff has been grayed out! I can't change them anymore... Is this a sign?!!? I only ordered mine on the 13th!

note the edit options are now greyed out

checked birmingham bullring store today, not in yet ... and according to macworld, UK will get the touch after 28th spetember:

http://www.macworld.co.uk/ipod-itunes/news/index.cfm?newsid=19103

to be honest I wanted iTouch so bad this morning but after reading about the screen problems I am thinking that maybe its a good thing, I would get to read the reviews before I decide to put my £200 on rev.A iTouch ..

JamesC, it looks like you are looking at your order via the US Apple Store (which says "Ships by:") rather than the UK store (www.apple.com/uk/store) which says "Estimated shipping:". If you view the order via the UK store, the engraving and gift message options should no longer be greyed out. (My 'Add a gift message' option is greyed out when viewed via the US store but not via the UK store.)

For the record, my order for a 16G-ZOO was placed Sep 5, 2007 at 07:27PM GMT (12:27 PM PDT) i.e. as soon as the UK store was back up!, but it still says:
"Not yet shipped"
Ships by: 28 Sep, 2007
Delivers by 01 Oct, 2007 - 02 Oct, 2007

To be honest, if at 10am next Tuesday a UK 3G iPhone is announced with sensible pricing and shipping before Xmas I will cancel the iPod touch order and get the iPhone instead... but I suspect the first UK iPhones won't be 3G, in which case I will stick with the touch until a 3G iPhone is released.

Just spoke to Apple store regents street and was told "some time in October" still worth a check in store. If anyone's around there ;)

Also discount code: ENTMZGJPVJ available for all orders over £235

Thanks for the discount code, much appreciated.

I'm on the UK store and it's still greyed out

UK here, I ordered as soon as I could get on the UK store, which on my comp seemed like a good 20 mins more than some people!

IPOD TOUCH 8G-ZOO

I'm very confused.

I applied the coupon code to my order after it was placed, which the lady I spoke to was more than happy to do. She announced it would take £30 off my order.

So that's £269.00 minus £30.00 = £239.00.

I've just checked my order status and the total is now £188.31. Does that mean I've had an £80.69 discount?! No funds have been taken from by bank account. I'm not sure what's happened, but I'm certainly not complaining!

Unfortunately, the order status has remained the same:

MeWhOeLsE, thats odd... I can still 'Add a gift message' via the UK site. Do you still have the option to cancel the order? As I understand it, the option to cancel via the web disappears once they have boxed up your order ready to dispatch, so that might be a more reliable indicator of progress.

Joe23 - I assume you phoned 0800 039 1010 to apply the coupon code retrospectively - I might give that a go!

I can cancel it... but something (even something tiny) must have happened for us to no longer be able to personalise it anymore... (I'm grasping at straws here! lol)

Just spoke to someone at Apple store regents St London and he said "Expecting imminently" he guaranteed they would have them sometime next week....Things are looking good for us!!

I know what you mean about grasping at straws.... I was quite excited (sad puppy that I am) when you first posted that the engraving option was greyed out thinking the UK orders were being prepared for shipping!!

At least we can still cancel our orders - I do feel sorry for our US friends prevented from canceling by an order status change just as they appear in the shops over there. It will be just my luck for my order to change status at 09:59 next Tuesday and then a 16GB 3G UK iPhone is announced with immediate shipping!! (OK, that won't happen, maybe in Feb 2008, so I will stick with my touch order for now.)

Nice one - that's good news...thanks for letting us know :)

If they release early in this country it'll probably be just prior to any iphone announcements - makes sense for them to do that.

OTOH iphone doesn't interest me at the moment.. I'm only a couple of months into my current contract so I'm not on the market for one for another 6 months probably (by which time they'll have 16GB, 3G and a healthy 3rd party software market hopefully).

I keep calling the Regent Street :apple: store, hoping they will say "yes, we just got them in", but all i keep hearing is the same "robotic" response... "not till the 28th September".

I feel like saying "well thats what they said in the US and they DO HAVE THEM in some US :apple: stores!"... but i know i would get some sarcastic response like... "well thats the US and were in the UK".

Any body else feel like calling everyday to check but feel that you will get some sarcastic response if you do?

Out of interest, what's my position as a consumer if my Touch arrives via my online order (assuming I don't cancel it!) and it has that outrageously bad 'negative blacks', over-contrasty display problem and I want a replacement?

Do I have to return it via mail to an Apple depot, or can I take it into an Apple Store (in Regent Street, for example) and ask for a replacement?

Yeah I would love to know the answer to this too.
It took me a little over a week and a discount code to finally purchase the iPod Touch and now its plagued by these screen and sound issues - serves me right for not waiting a little longer.

My order status has changed!

It now reads 'Cancelled'. I'm afraid I've read nothing but bad news on this device all day - I've seen some absolutely appalling images of the screen, bad news about the sound quality, plus the more I think about it the less attractive the internet access really is (I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of places I frequent even semi-regularly with WiFi access, and my own home is one of them), and you can't even add events to the calendar so all in all it's a great interface being totally wasted.

What REALLY gutting is that I sold my 3 month old shiny new black iPod Video to fund this, and the new Classics look absolutely disgusting in comparison with their curved edges and non-shiny fronts.
