Who is pre-ordering?
likely anyone who wants to get one this year. Sony is production limited on the number of screens they can turn out. Something around 1M screens, two of which are required for each Vision Pro. That sets a limit of 500K units. Also, Sony has been talking about some products of their own that will use these screens so Apple may not be able to get the whole production run. Apple will only be able to make a limited number of them this year.

Skip the "demo" line at the Apple Store, just order one and return it.

On another note, I can('t) believe they aren't including a case for $3500. Guessing there's going to be a lot of scratched up front screens.

This is the weirdest release of an apple product ever. We are now less than 24 hours away from the release & we have no details on price other than the price of the base unit. not a single detail on what options of storage will be offered other than the base of 256gb & how much bigger options cost. How much are extra battery packs? It’s oddly strange
Agreed. It's strange and very disconcerting. The nonsensical objections from the haters of this product that overwhelm every single thread on the AVP has no influence on me. But this withholding of details this close to the release by Apple is giving me pause and concern about ordering this device tomorrow. It's almost as if Apple is trying to discourage purchases. Maybe they something we don't, like maybe the AVP is DOA.

What do people think the immediate resale value will be? Due to limited supply how much will they go for on eBay?

Also, 1st gen products from Apple unboxed tend to appreciate after a decade. For instance, the 1st gen iPhone brand new is going for over $10,000. Will this product be a collectors item?

No thanks. Can’t justify the cost for a first gen product that is essentially just an accessory.

And who is going to teach you how to use it? This may be a bit more complicated that setting up a Mac?

BTW, people who buy something just to try it, full well knowing they are going to return it, really makes me angry and disappointed. It's so wrong on so many levels. Comeuppance comes to mind.

External lithium battery pro available. Chrome wheels will cost a extra 1000$.

People citing the original iPhone and iPad as “proof” the Vision Pro will be a hit are ignoring that there was no comparable phone to an iPhone or tablet to an iPad for 1/6th the price. The touchscreen smartphone and tablet weren’t “a thing” when those launched…but there’s been a decade of Rifts, Quests, Vives, etc. that are REALLY close to what the VP offers, especially the Quest 3 at 1/6th the price. And the Quest has a relatively mature VR marketplace, mature apps, compatibility with Steam VR, a native MS Gamepass app now. Both controller and gesture input.

In short, the Vision Pro is entering a market that doesn’t look like what the phone and tablet markets looked like at the launch of the iPhone and iPad and is trying to enter it at a relatively astronomical price. Even when cross shopping high end PC laptops to MacBook Pros, you aren’t talking a 5-6x premium. A MacBook Pro isn’t $18k going against $3k PCs. I’m curious but unlike standing in line with excitement for the original iPhone and iPad where I was one of the first 5 in line, I’m not excited in the slightest to put down $3500 for what increasingly looks like a product that needed another 6 months in the cooker.

If you are a fan, it is a practically perfect device in every way and thus you'll never have a reason to part with one if you are lucky enough to get one. You may be imprisoned or tortured for even considering it. ;)

If you are one of the extremist pessimists, it is worthless and you'll probably have to pay someone a substantial amount to take it off your hands. Nobody could possibly want one because any given pessimist doesn't want one. ;)

If you are someone between the extremes- like me- and lean positive, you might look at the desirability of PS5 with limited supply during Covid. Scalpers on Ebay were getting anywhere from 35%-150% more than retail. If someone wanted a PS5 for about 15+ months there, you had to pay the scalper premium or get very, VERY lucky. The likely-true rumor about Vpro is at least 2024 will be in short supply by a hard limit on how much of a key part can be manufactured. So much like PS5, apparently Apple won't be able to crank up production to undermine any lock by Scalpers for some period of time.

If you lean negative, you might imagine the customizations may limit the aftermarket demand unless those customizations are easily replicated by subsequent owners.

As in all things with glorious profit stories, the key to success is the rarity of the collectible. Mint Action Comics #1? Retirement money. Best available Honus Wagner baseball card. Little lotto-like prize. One of a kind art pieces by old masters? Big lotto-like prizes.

People then catch on to stories like "1st gen" phone and get ideas about the next opportunity like that. If only a handful follow through, there's probably a windfall in many years. However, if there's many playing the opportunity, there will be many up for auction in that same future... driving down the price because it's not "special" among many others that are identical. Nevertheless, "investors" fall for the opportunity often.

IMO: too many seem to already be on this same train. Seek out something rarer, so you can be among the very few with one "new in box" in 15-50 years. This probably isn't that... because too many others may have the very same idea... and perhaps the self-control to actually follow through.

I’ll quote you in a few years.

Apple doesn’t do discounts.
Actually the first iPhone dropped in price by $200 a few months after launch. That said, surely this was a historical anomaly. However I could see this first gen actually dropping in price if the rumors are true and there is no follow up for the next couple of years.

Apple said it will come with a cover for the front screen.

I have Sony VR2 - it's nice - but I believe the Applevision are way higher resolution etc etc.

I used the Sony VR2 a little bit with Gran Turismo - and it's good. But what was the most amazing in that particular game was the car interiors! Go figure! "Kaz" really put in the graphical detail on the cars in that simulator. The driving is awesome and the tracks are very accurate, but also this crazy car collecting stuff really blew my mind with the VR goggles. Beautiful car interiors haha. Unexpected, but fun!

Mainly my son plays a few VR games with the PS5 and VR2. I did not like wearing the Sony goggles for longer than 30 minutes at a time - just kinda heavy and dank. I am hoping the Applevision are light and airy and addictive!
