Many users push the home button to wake up the phone to see if there are any notifications on the lock screen. TouchID is so fast on the iPhone 6S that by the time you push the home button it takes you straight to the home page and you don't even see the lock screen. This is why Apple added this feature.

I understand why Apple decided to ditch "slide to unlock" and replace it with a lot of pressing. But it just makes no sense if people "blow past their lock screen notifications" like how is the lock screen even crucial for these notifications when Apple created the NOTIFICATION CENTER . It just doesn't make any sense. It is a LOCK SCREEN and not a centralized Notification Center. That is why Apple has a NOTIFICATION CENTER. I think Apple wants to force us to enjoy their gimmicks when current lock screen actions actually expose your privacy and security. I still prefer Slide To Unlock.

Go to this thread and see this concept, I personally think it's the best way for Apple to implement Slide To Unlock in iOS 10: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...rn-of-slide-to-unlock-design-concept.1983135/

Now that I think of it, how does this fuel the "no home button on the Phone 8" rumor? "3D Touch to unlock"?

Rumor has it that iPhone 7 is going to have a 3D Touch home button. My first thought is a light press to lock screen (in a unlocked state directly as Touch ID is so fast) or a deep press to go directly to home screen.

For those that wanted (me) YES, ABSOLUTELY! Having that option is all I was asking for. I'm sure Apple does read macrumors too to keep an eye on things so when something gets attention on forums it gets noticed (as confirmed many times before) :)
No. Apple does not read forum. There might be someone keeping an eye on forum tells someone in Apple manager structure about this feature.

Anyway. Have it, and everyone is happy. Win-win.

Not sure it's confirmation of anything, but it's good that options are there.

Yes, win win. :)

But they do read forums. Just to control perception etc :)

They may read forums. That's not what happened here. There was an option in settings. It was not working. It's now working, in this beta. No ones opinion about Press Home to Open caused apple to change its stance. Coders had time to code. 8 pages, over a feature that wasn't turned on yet. Lol
