If this is the way Apple will go phone wise, I’m done with them.

After my SE won’t get upgrades, I’ll buy something much simplier.
I have en iPad, and will co tinge to have one. Won’t ever need a phablet.

Found this: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/light-phone-2#/

More people want small phones, it will come even if Apple is leaving us.

Apple actually made the Note 9 look like a bargain. I bet the Pixel 3 will copy Apple’s pricing as well making the Note the best bang for the buck currently.

I thought the Xr would be $700, but the upgraded memory would be $800. Now I find out it's $750, with an upgrade of memory price of... $800. That's fine by me lol. Coming from an iPhone 6S+, seems like an upgrade in every way. All this talk about PPi and 720P vs 1080P on small screens seem insane to me, but I'll be waiting till people who actually know what they are talking about (some of the reviewers, with actual units doing a side by side comparison) get their hands on them before I decide what I'll actually buy.
It’s noticeably less sharper. I came from an iPhone 6 to the 7 Plus and then to the X. There was a noticeable increase in sharpness with each upgrade.

I use it all day every day. More than my car. More than my laptop. More than my TV.
You probably spend more lifetime minutes eating than you do most things. That doesn't mean you should start paying 300 dollars for each meal just because some company wants to charge you it.

"its just a burger"
"yeah but I eat every day!"

That said I'm going to get an iPhone XS, but only because I'm currently using an old Note 5 and my time to upgrade happens to fall on this year. But I wouldn't use such a fallacious argument to justify the ballooning iPhone prices.

My phone is my most used device. For how often I use it I'm okay with the price.
See above.

I see it this way that phone is with you day and night and gets the most usage of anything you have so paying for something that is used so much it's getting it's value worth
True, but the “Apple tax” has reached new levels of stupidity. The main draw with Apple has always been their software. Let’s be real. Samsung makes the best hardware in the world. Best screens, most technology in their phones and the prices plummet within 6 months. If you could get a note 9 running iOS 12 I think you’d see it was on another level. The iPhone is a status symbol and we pay a LOT of money for the Apple logo on the phone. Is iOS worth it? That’s up to all of us to decide for ourselves. I wouldn’t even consider an iPhone if I could run an android phone and be able to use my Apple Watch. You pay a lot for an iPhone compared to an equivalent android. This is a sad revelation for me.

Wow, I'm really torn right now.

I love the Xs Max but the prices are insane. In Swiss Francs the version I consider (256GB) is 1'489.- all taxes included. The exchange rate to US$ is exactly 1:1.
The phone will be great, but that's a lot of money. Should I get the 64GB version which is about 200 francs less? Or even the Xs? No idea right now.

But the good thing (at least I hope) is, that there will probably not be a run for the phones. I tell myself that I can walk into a store on the 21st and just buy it. Or do you think there will be a lot of demand for the Xs Max?

Have in mind that prices in Europe are much higher. So for the iphone Xs its 1150€ and for the Xs max at 1259€, thats for the 64 gb versions. Now most of the people i know would go for the 256gb version so the prices at that capacity start from 1459€ for the Xs max and at 1329€ for the Xs. When i look at the prices and the diferences between these devices ,especially in the camera area, and my iphone 7 plus i am real happy for my purchase. Will keep it this year and probably the year after.
The Xr on the other hand for the 64 gb costs 859€ and for the 128 version 919€.
Now that pricing is more friendly to the average apple customer.

I don't know if this has been done yet, but I made a spreadsheet with old vs new pricing.

USD and SEK.

Great job.

I read the MacWordl's article about it today: https://macworld.idg.se/2.1038/1.707109/kronika-iphone-xs-pris

Apple's $ currency course is unreal. They add like ~50%

The currency courses haven't been to Swede's advantage earlier, but this is stealing

Soon Apple will have their own banks too, who wouldn't want a little Apple logo on their money.
Not that many people use cash today, but the worst part is that I think there would be people who would pay for Apple Cash. Even if it would be the double price for any currency and cash to have that. :D

Yep it's no fun. The Xr will cost me the equivalent of US $1123 in the current exchange rate according to Google. That does include taxes which the US pricing does not, but it's still almost a 50% increase over the US price so even with the highest US sales tax it's still way more expensive.

We do have the private copying levy but that's 4,38 SEK per GB, so thats only 280,32 SEK on the price of the 64GB model, or about US $31. The iPhone Xs 512 GB will however be hit with 2 242,56 SEK (about US $250) so that's even more fun.

I think you are right. Look at how generation Z and younger has adopted the use of mobile devices. It's an extension of their body. Innovation will continue and it won't be a decade before we'll see things like holographic displays. The smartphone will take on more and more roles like artificial personal assistant, study coach, artificial friend, health safeguard, more entertainment options etc etc. With devices servicing more aspects of life, people will be willing to spend more.
Heck the way evolution works, in years to come, people will be born with them in their bodies!

You could always try and get one from the US. I’m british but my wife’s American. Saves us a lot being able to buy from the US.

iPhone XS 64GB is around $1056 with sales tax where we stay, in the UK they charge £999, but with the current exchange rates it’s just over £800.

Yesterday, I was set on ordering the XS Max with 512GB ($1449), but now, maybe I should save myself $200 and go for 256GB at $1249. Do I really need that much storage? Then, I started to think, should I just, maybe, get the XS 256GB at $1149 and save myself another $100. But then again, I'm $300 away from getting what I originally wanted.

These prices are insane. How are you guys justifying the cost of these new iPhones? I've read that many of you don't plan to upgrade.

Totally agree with you. Apple is showing its true colors over time. Customer Satisfaction has now moved to the bottom of their list to replaced. Phones now cost more than a computer itself. Ridiculous.

I was out before this for other reasons.

Now the pricing adds to that.

I can get a decent used car for basic transportation or a fully loaded older Mac Pro for those prices.

I’m not upgrading period. When I saw those prices and storage configuration I immediately paid off my IPhone X 256gb and more than likely headed to the note 9

I am going for a 64gb iPhone XR for $750. It's the only device that I could afford within my means anyways. Considering it's a 2-3 year investment, I will swallow the high price tag. I only ran out of space temporarily with recording too many 4k videos on vacation one time. I just exported everything to Google Photos and have 18 GBs free now.

However, I will not be upgrading to the iPhone XI or XIR or the iPhone XII or XIIR.

I think it was Warren Buffett that said the iPhone was completely undervalued for what it does. Think of every tool on the iPhone and buy it separately. Phones are no longer luxuries they are necessities.

Happy I have $627 cash back rewards on my business credit card. Makes the purchase of the Xs easier to stomach / rationalize.

My phone absolutely is a computer. I use banking apps, business VOIP, e-fax, Outlook, calendar(s) sync, Google Maps and Waze almost daily. It's the 2nd most important tool I use for work. It doesn't run Crysis though...

It's not worth losing local warranty over in my opinion

Comparing any LCD to a good OLED the OLED will win. The question is, will coming from a 6s+ will it look worse? I won’t take your word from it, people there said the screen looked good. I’ll wait to go into a store and compare it to my 6S+. As for viewing videos on it, watching content on a phone is a terrible experience compared to my iPad, my iMac or my tv. Saving $250 for a phone with the features I want (Camera, wireless charging, water proofing) for a screen nearly the same as my phone and one less camera seems worth it to me.

I thought Apple's warranties were valid anywhere?
iPhone is only only Apple products that does not have international warranty. Though in India Apple offers international warranty on iPhones too because local prices are much much higher than the rest of the World
