The price is crazy but I'll still buy a 256 max. My 6 was fine after 4 years and I'm sure the Xs will be too, at least that.

I used to replace laptops every 2-4 years but that's been extended since laptop performance (for my needs) has pretty much topped out. I have a Thinkpad x230 from 2012 that still runs great, mom has my 2011 MBP, and my 2015 MBP is good for a long time.

The better these iPhone get, the more I'm comfortable leaving the laptop at home on longer trips so might as well throw down and get a good one.

I think you’re right. Apple brag about record profits but the fact of the matter is they are noticing the drop in demand like anybody else. The whole market is noticing a drop in upgrades and it’s due to phones being good enough to last longer than the average contract length. People are simply keeping their phones longer.

Actually Apple brags about record sales, they report record profits each quarter.

Tell me ONE iphone that is 5 years old and is still tolerable to use. The 6 and 6+ are not 5 years old, but are borderline unusable.

I dusted off my six-year-old iPhone 5 to use since last month because I cracked the screen on my 6...it's not that bad. The only problem is that my brain knows that there's a better way to perform some functions but day to day it's fine and it does what I need it to do. What's tolerable is in your head.

Yeah, I was thinking of getting a Max as well. I guess I'll reconsider. After all it's just a phone.

I’m leaning that way as well. I was planning to upgrade my 7 Plus this year, but I think I’ll keep it for another year. I may end up changing my mind, but my new phone excitement is remarkably tempered by sticker shock right now.

Apple has priced themselves out of my pocket. I just can't justify these prices. I hope the SE will continue to be supported for some time, once it's out of support I likely won't buy another iPhone unless they bring back affordable models.

I had a suspicion Apple would get ridiculous for 2018 with the bigger X price. In 2017 I got an 8+ 256 or myself and X 256 for the wife. My game plan is stay one year behind going forward and cut upgrade costs. If Apple pulls shenanigans next year and discontinues the 2018 model to keep prices inflated I will likely return to android.

I hear ya. I always buy my iPhones full price upfront from Apple, and would have been interested in a 256 GB Xs max (since there's no 128 model), but although I could buy it, I'm having a very difficult time justifying the cost to myself. And my 7 plus works just fine.

That’s exactly the model I’d buy if I were buying. But for that price, I could take a trip or buy a decent piece of furniture. And waiting this year might make upgrading next year even more fun. I’m leaning more and more toward staying put this year.

I think we're on the same wavelength, there, bluespark.

I personally tapped out on pricing with the 256 X and 8+ last year. Yes I am deeply entrenched in the iOS ecosystem, but I’m officially at the point where the price is no longer viable for annual flagship upgrades.

Not to me at least. There are simply too many other things I want to do with my money.

What phone are ya using?

The XR is the iPhone to buy this year.
95% of the XS at 75% the price. It has the same wide angle camera as the XS, and can also do portrait mode with a single lens. So basically all the camera features(except 2X zoom) have been brought to the XR. It has the best battery life of any iPhone, better than the XS Max too. Dual SIM, A12, faster FaceID, wide color gamut, stereo sound, etc, everything is the same as the more expensive models. The only noticable omissions is the OLED screen at a higher PPI(honestly I think 326 PPI is good enough). 3D touch isn't there but I'm not going to miss it as I used it only for a couple of shortcuts here and there

People will pay full price for the Max without batting an eye. The funny thing is that the people who are on the fence about spending that much $ (the $1100+ price range) who still but a new iPhone will probably end up spending at least $800 or $900 and feel like they got a pretty good deal. But that amount of $ is still higher on average than past phones... so Apple still wins.
It would have been great if the XR had the same res as the 8plus
yes.

It’s incredibly obnoxious that Apple went out of its way to source such an odd, low res panel that has a lower pixel count and PPI than the iPhone 6S+ which 3 years old.

Maybe Apple has some new image processing and anti aliasing that cleans up the image, but on paper it sounds blah.
