Anyone else have problems using their XDR display with an audio interface? I keep getting audio static feedback noise on the audio inputs when the XDR is plugged in. As soon as I unplug the XDR display the noise goes away.
First thought: Grounding issue.
I have no problem with Genelec active speakers and Focusrite Scarlett Solo ?‍♂️

But i remember one guy on YT with (maybe) similar problem:
That seems to verify my first thought (but damn, that guy really woke up and chugged a gallon of drama juice).

My first attempt at fixing a problem like that would be to make sure it's all grounded ok, and to the same ground; so having it all on the same fuse, preferably the same outlet, and using good quality well-shielded cables (instead of crappy cables all coiled up like some people have), and so on. It's basic electricity magic that primarily will help solve a problem like this.

After 10 years of reading macrumors I finally created a account.

i like to have the one XDR display to replace my LG 5K ultrafine. I see my local Apple reseller have a huge discount this weekend on all XDR displays. Are there signals for a new version?

Amazon is now showing them fully available so maybe Apple just ran into a supply problem. B&H has them too.

Who is your local Apple reseller?

I have an XDR for software development and I love the quality and high dpi. I'd consider a second one.
I wanted one larger monitor, but if I was to go for even more space I’d also consider a second XDR.

I felt for sometime that Apple’s Display products have had some serious gaps.
I could see a new thunderbolt display, targeted more at mid market.

Possibly some Minor refresh of the XDR, perhaps to take advantage of some manufacturing efficiencies.

Don’t we usually expect supply chain rumblings in combination with sales, though?

I have a 16" MBP and an XDR and a 27" Thunderbolt.

While I could replace the 27" with a second XDR, it is hard to justify the cost. I am hoping for a new 27" Retina screen at a price that is under $2K.

I saw you posted previously in my pipe dream thread about an Apple mid market display. I went ahead and topped it. “Maybe this year.”

At the moment I’m testing the XDR, I also have the 5K ultrafine.
I missed the point that the XDR has less real screen estate then the 5K Ultrafine from LG.
I really like a lot of screen space and a high PPI.

the other thing is, maybe it is more relaxed that everything is a little bigger on the XDR display.

What is the opinion here about the XDR screen space ? I did some research and it is not possible to get it like the 5K displays is that true? I use a MBP M1 and MBP 16”

Maybe I misunderstand what you're saying, but the 32" Pro Display XDR has more real estate than the 27" 5K. Both of the PPI's are very similar and besides the specs on native resolution, the default scaling setting aka 'UI Looks like' is showing added real estate:

Resolution: 6016 x 3384
UI Looks like: 3008 x 1692

vs

Resolution: 5120 x 2880
UI Looks like: 2560 x 1440

My point was that dismissing an OLED monitor(especially one that will most likely become the gold standard for professional use) because it has a lower but still perfectly usable PPI is, as I said, silly.

If your top priorities are text clarity and screen space you could have bought two 27" 5K's, giving you an extra 45% screen space and saving about $3400USD. Just sayin'.
Nobody is selling brand new 5K displays as far as I can see. Both Dell and LG no longer list these monitors? Apple removed the LG ultrafine monitors from the store as well.

Dell stopped selling its 5k display a while ago and instead they have an 8k.

All other makers of 5k monitors stopped selling them.

However, I still see the lg UltraFine 5k on Apple store and is available for pickup

Not in the UK unfortunately. It's been removed from the store a few months ago. It was in the store for a while without a price and then disappeared completely. I incorrectly assumed the US store had done the same.

Anyone noticed slowdown when adding second Pro Display XDR? I'm using 580x card and feel like once I added the second display my Mac Pro hasn't been snappy.

I'm not sure who needs to hear this, but, if you have a MBP that regularly overheats/throttles when connected to an XDR, especially during video calls, try plugging the monitor (or whatever you use to provide power) into the right side of the laptop (the side closest to the F12 key, not F1). Charging on that side allows it to run cooler.

My work MBP (one of the last 15" models) runs the XDR fine, but overheats often. Moving my TS3+ to the F1 side and my XDR to the F12 side helped a whole lot.

Do you mean slower UI animations?

What machine are you running it on?

Is the EGPU a black magic?

I’ve been waiting close to 3 months. Apple contacted me and has been following up every step of the way. (I should be seeing the monitor soon.) Take this as gossip, from what I heard, it seems there has been a sudden surge in demand for the XDR with Nano Texture display which has been causing the delays.

And.. I got just a message there is a problem with my order so my estimated April 1st delivery (jokes on me!) is now estimated to May 31.

boooooo-urns..

I’m on an M1 Mini with a pro XDR. Switch Res is telling me I only have a million colors. But the benq connected via hdmi says billions of colors. I’m on the M1 switch Res version latest Mac OS beta. On my Intel MacBook Pro switch Res says the XDR is billions.

I have also lost the reference display mode drop downs.
Anyone have this too?

Wanted to check in on hardware upgrade plans from other XDR owners.

I'm guessing most folks are on Intel hardware with their XDR. I'm on a maxed out 2018 mac mini, and am hoping to go to an M2 or other Apple Silicon based gen 2 of the Mac Mini later this year.

It will have to scream single and multi-threaded to prompt the move, and also be able to outperform the Blackmagic RX580.

Other than that, nothing's holding me back except for the task of having to liquidate this old hardware.

I've been keeping an eye on movement of the discontinued Blackmagic Pro Vega 56 eGPU on eBay for about a year. About 9-10 months ago a Vega 56 would pop up and sell for under 700 about every 5 weeks or so.

Since then, I think because of the GPU shortage, good pricing has been hard to come by. However, based on my alerts it seems like quick-sales of the Vega are picking up again. I've seen two sub $700 Vega 56's sell in the past few days.

I'm curious about thoughts on hardware and upgrades from people using Intel-based Mac Minis or Pros (or laptops too!) and what your plans are (if any) for jumping between the architectures.

My thoughts on it are largely sooner, the better, as each gen of Apple Silicon will put greater distance between what you can buy new and the value of what's available used.

I’m using my XDR with an i7 2020 MacBook Pro 13”. I’m planning to upgrade to the new M1X (or M2 or whatever they call the next processor) 14” MacBook Pro when it’s hopefully released later this year.

I tried the M1 Mac mini, but really need the portability of a MacBook.

I love the XDR! :)

How's the experience? I have the same laptop and thinking of upgrading to an XDR too.

Does the built-in GPU handle the XDR or does it feel sluggish?

Bringing the MBP out of sleep mode, does it take long to wake up the display?

Has anyone been able to control the brightness from Windows?

I downloaded Apple’s Bootcamp package and attempted to install them for the driver on a Windows PC (3090 RTX 3700X.) The issue I had was, even with that installed I still couldn’t get the specific driver to control the brightness.

I don't know why its doesn't work. Do you have USB access to the display (check that the USB ports work)?
Apple describes the ability at https://support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/bootcamp-control-panel/bcmp63a95ede/mac

It’s just the same as if using the built in screen, just a lot bigger and brighter!

Waking up the display was very quick until the most recent macOS update - now it’s been a little slower with the display coming on, going off and coming on again. Also, my Mac has crashed a couple of times when waking where it gets into a loop and continues to crash until I unplug the display, which is odd. It’s obviously the latest update as it was flawless until then.

I’m looking forward to the MacBook Pro update.

Ended up returning my XDR due to blooming. Was probably a bad idea watching movies with it. Inherent to the technology yes but for 5k no.
