I got an iPhone 15 yesterday, and given the new usb-c port I tried to plug it into my Pro Display XDR. It works! The phone charges and will mirror its screen to the XDR at 4k. Just thought I’d share with everyone. Now add a full version of OSX and mouse/keyboard support and I’ll be a very happy camper :)

Will be super cool when the iPhone can serve as a miniature laptop. Plug in to screen and all good.

Do you have the regular iPhone 15 or Pro? I know Apple says the iPhone 15 Pro only mirrors up to 4K. If you have any apps that utilize full screen of an external display like Citrix, could you test if it displays at any higher resolution? My 2018 iPad Pro ( also with USB-C and not Thunderbolt) will support up to 6K on the Pro Display XDR.

I have the regular iPhone 15. I do not have the Citrix app - any other suggestions as to how I can display the resolution? The phone does use the full vertical resolution of the XDR when the phone is in both portrait and landscape mode, but I assume this is scaled up from 4k based on what Apple said at the keynote. Or, since I’m on the regular 15, would I be scaling up from the ~1080p of the iPhone native display? Or am I in fact using the full 6k similar to your 2018 iPad Pro?

I believe the app Jump Desktop also supports external displays. What about playing videos on your phone or streaming 6K videos from YouTube?

Hi All, I need a new monitor asap and the Pro Display is currently show 5 weeks shipping. I was wondering if any of you had order one recently and got it sooner?

Mine arrived this past Saturday, September 23. I ordered on August 26 and was given a delivery estimate of Sept 19 - Sept 26. When it actually shipped, the estimated deliver was Aug 27, but DHL got it here overnight once it reached the US.

So, in this case, Apple did not under-promise and over-deliver. It arrived in the middle of the window they projected.

Just set it up a few minutes ago. Now to see if / how much DSE it has and look for any dead pixels... :S

Very interested to hear about the result!
No dead pixels, thankfully! I ran those tests from the EIZO website. There may be some DSE going on but looking through the pictures on the XDR thread about DSE, what I’m seeing doesn’t look anywhere near as severe as most of those.

I have about a week left to decide if I want to keep it. I don’t suspect I’ll have any issues with the quality of the display, but we’ll see. If I keep it the next step will be signing up for AppleCare+ (annual billing— especially after reading some recent accounts here of these things dying on people right after 3 years or so. Though I do wonder how much those issues have to do with power delivery / powering MacBook Pros. I’ve yet to come across one that died using only a desktop Mac.)

Jumped in to do some work on it and it’s just a huge breath of fresh air to have that pixel density. The size of the display isn’t overwhelming to me— I’m coming from a 34” ultra wide screen so in some sense it feels smaller. But everything else is a huge upgrade.

Very nice, good for you!

Getting my Pro Display XDR repaired at the Genius Bar for the issues explained in this post. They ordered a new display panel part and told me it will take about one week. I just hope that the panel is of similar quality to new displays being shipped now with uniform brightness and no dead pixels.

So they’re actually repairing it? I guess some issues are repairable? Other threads have led me to believe they don’t even open these things up, they just swap them. (though swapping at this point means being without a display for a month and a half since they don’t stock them locally). Maybe it depends on the issue as to whether they will try to repair.

So how was your initial Genius Bar appointment— do they have any kind of metric or process for verifying this stuff? Did they compare with a floor model or anything?

Has anyone had any issues with ethernet to usb-c adapters going into the back of their XDR Pro Displays?

I picked up a TP-Link UE300C to test a wired internet to the iPhone 15. It worked, and I had believed the device was working fine with my 2022 MBA M2 connected to the pro display.

However, I moved the adapter back up to the router to try speeding up the iOS 17 updates on some of our devices. And when I moved the dongle to the XDR, it brought the entire wired network of my home down. Like, all hubs, Apple TV, everything connected up through my main router! It took me a while to troubleshoot what went wrong when I finally had time to address "a lot of the lights aren't working" six hours later.

There are reviews for the UE300C saying it doesn't work for the Macbook Air M2. However, I'm sure I was getting connectivity via the XDR at least at first.

I didn't know a misbehaving node could take down an entire network like that.

Anyone have any complications with USB-C dongle'd networking off the back of the XDR? (or note that certain devices work connected via the XDR but not directly to say an M2 MBA or other AS device?)

That’s good news- did you order online or buy in store?

My display had uneven brightness with lighter areas along the top and center. There also is a noticeable DSE. I was expecting a challenging appointment to have to justify my concerns but the genius didn’t even look at the display or take it out of the box! He just immediately ordered a new panel part which is the entire LCD screen so hopefully this one will have more even brightness and no dead pixels. I was happy but very surprised. He told me that the store had never done a repair on this model before so we shall see…

I finally did it and have ordered the Pro Display, it's going to a long wait for November 3rd. In the mean time can anyone recommend a webcam? Should I get the matching Logitech or something different? Will be mainly used for team within Citrix

I had the Logitech but there has to be something better these days. It's fine and all.

You will love the XDR. It's amazing.

Yeah I did look at your photos, it was definitely clearly brighter in the center-- almost looked like you just had insane vignetting. Good look with the new panel, that's great that you didn't have any trouble getting them to replace it (aside from hauling your display in to the store).

I use a Logitech C920, but there are probably better models at this point.

I do have a suggestion on accessories though: consider using a desk clamping adjustable suspension boom (scissor arm).

This can put the camera up in the corner of the display so it can capture you at an angle. Placement like this can be a more flattering angle and look much more professional. Watch some youtube videos about this topic.

The XDR does have fancy magnets to secure it, but I don't think it that placement is necessarily the best choice.

Thank guys for the recommendations, I just remembered about continuity camera so I'm going to try that out first see how it works out

I too have the Logitech and agree that there must be better options these days. I also agree that you will love the XDR!

I've actually been using continuity camera for the last month or 2 while I've been revamping my setup. I actually really like it, just wish it didn't tie up my phone. I do put my phone on a stand in the corner of the display as rob suggested (lower corner, probably not as flattering as upper corner but I still prefer it over straight on / centered with the display), that's how my previous camera was set up too (Sony A7III 🤣 ).

So you guys are still ordering these, i'm in the market for one in the UK.
Not looking like Apple is going to replace it with something similar any time soon?
Are we expecting an October event?

I just bought a new monitor and couldn't get myself to buy the XDR because of the time it's been in the market. Just couldn't pay the price. I'm happy with the decision but I miss the XDR. It's awesome and probably totally worth buying today. Just couldn't do it.
