Out of curiosity, what did you pay for it?

I am also looking at the second-hand market, but the prices I've found so far are still relatively high, for e.g. around 2-year old Pro Display XDR units. Therefore I'm interested anecdotally what others have paid for it recently. A refreshed edition of the Pro Display release may lower the value on the market of the existing Pro Display XDRs probably a fair bit, though I don't suspect the effect would be huge.
FYI, I paid 3K for my used XDR locally on craigslist over a year ago. I then got the Pro Stand ~6 months later on e-bay for $500 due to a damaged external box - I spent a while waiting for a good deal to appear though. Good luck!

I plan to use this display with a MacBook. Anyone here plug and unplug their MacBook from the display everyday? Wondering if there are any long term issues with this practice because the display has no power button. Thanks

I hope there aren't.

I have a work and personal MBP and switch between them constantly (via CalDigit TS4 dock cable). And then from time to time plug/unplug my desktop PC to the XDR when I need to use it.

Have only had for 3 months...

I'd recommend to turn the display off (using ctrl+cmd+eject shortcut or setup your own) before unplugging it.

After years of using my XDR, I would buy another if needed. Most of my day is programming and most screen time is with text and it has no equal for that. The only problem I have had, and unfixed from day 1 and happening about 1 in 3 times, is that the brightness will elevate to add about 100 nits to the value when the Studio (and before, a Mini) is powered up. Long since gotten used to clicking on the taskbar icon and resetting it at the start of the day.

Thinking of picking up one of these, used. What are some things I should be on the lookout for in terms of display problems or technical issues?

Not much to look at pre-purchase. Either it comes on or it doesn't. You can go into displays and change a few settings, but I doubt that there is anything to predict longevity.

Hi guys.

I have owned an XDR for a long time and have used it all the time with my Mac Studio and Mac book pro.

But I need a PC and am looking for a way before I buy a PC, what wires or boards are available right now for purchase on amazon to get a fully functional XDR.

I've read the whole forum but haven't found a solution other than the WJESOG cable, but I've read that there are problems with it, the belkin cable is the best option but it's just not available anywhere.

Could you help me?

Thank you.

The most reliable option is USB-C to connect XDR. Thunderbolt solutions on PC may not work properly.

For USB-C just read this and choose what fits you best:

My current setup is Dell-branded Sunix UPD2018 PCIe add-in card and USB-C KVM switcher to switch between PC and Mac without unplugging and plugging. I tried to go with Thunderbolt, but couldn't get 6K or had issues with drivers, boot screen and overall stability, and no KVM switch of course. USB-C on the other hand just works.

Yep, you ordered the right thing. It also needs a short DP to DP cable if it doesn't come in the box.

Yes, you will need a USB-C 10 or 20 gbps, the best option is a cable from Dell/HP/LG/Samsung which comes with their displays.

I also found these cables, which one is better? Or if i buy a regular usb c on amazon, how will it be worse from samsung?

Once again thank you very much, I appreciate your help.

You have to buy USB-C cable (the first one). TB3 cable won't work with USB-C.

Hi there!

I'm wondering if the fans inside XDR are spinning all the time? Even in sleep mode I can still hear a very quiet whirring noise coming from the back. I've tried disconnecting the signal cable, but it's still there. If the fans are running constantly, dust will continuously enter the display.

Hi,

I recently bought the XDR, however I'm having some doubts regarding longevity of it. Ideally, I'd want to use it for next decade or so. Has anyone been able to keep their Apple Care+ active back from ~2020 ? Apple offers yearly subscription and 3 year long coverage. I just wonder what my options will be after 3 years. I searched the internet and the repair cost is astonishing.

Pay for your AppleCare monthly and it will run until Apple declares your device obsolete AFAIK.

Hi there,

I have a Pro Display XDR now and was unable to get a DisplayPort based KVM Switch to work reliably.
I can switch from Mac to PC always, but never from PC to Mac - Display stays dark.
Ordered one very simple 8k capable USB C hub now (this one) and hope for the best.

The PC doesn't support thunderbolt, my plan is to connect it via a usb c to DisplayPort cable with the computers graphics card - any obvious flaw with this method? How did some of you get the brightness controls to work?

I have a quick question, is your XDR display listed under your Apple account devices?

No, it is not… I thought it couldn’t be listed because it’s the least smart thing that Apple makes.

Is that relevant to getting it to work with a kvm?
