Non-Pro is cheaper, (personally) more pleasing to the eye. Most people don't need Dolby Vision 4K cameras that can shoot The Weeknd's new music video. The only reason why most of us are getting Pro is the 120hz.

And the f***ers at Apple know that.

Once you've experienced 120Hz, you can't go back. For those with a 120Hz Pro phone, try enabling power saving to disable it and see how horrendous it is. I suppose if you've never experienced it, then you don't know, so ignorance is bliss!

Low power mode with 120hz displays is way rougher than 60hz native in my opinion

I'm tempted to go from my 15 Pro to a normal 16 this time, if I upgrade at all. I realized I don't use any of the advanced photo/video features, and I value lighter-weight phones (I loved my 13 mini, though not its battery life). I'd miss the always-on display, but maybe not as much as I think. Hmm.

You’re greatly exaggerating things. It’s only super bad if you’re looking at 120 and then look at 60hz immediately. After a few minutes of using it at 60hz youll get used to it. And some people may not see it at all, I tried showing the difference 120hz makes to my gf and she found it hard to note what changed.

Indeed, I switch between work phone (120hz) and personal (60hz) all week long without issue. You get used to it.

I love these ridiculous statements....I have a SE 2022 at 60hz and a 13 Pro at 120hz and move back and forth between the two all day and while I can easily see the difference, I just don't care. I would have no problem moving to a 60hz phone.

Enabling low power mode on my 13 Pro, the screen stutters more than the SE.

If I wasn’t keeping my 15PM for another year I’d definitely consider the non pro. They look very aesthetically pleasing to me this year, the colours are fun and the functionality is great too with minimal difference between pro and non.

15 Pro to 16 Plus. The colors are too cool to pass up and I don't care about the cameras or ProMotion. Both the 16 Pros have gained a considerable amount of weight too.

really frustrating they don't consistently stick with a philosophy year over year that many consistently wonder about:
-do they prioritize battery life or thinness and lightness? If the former why did they not really mention any battery specs other than mentioning they have 'bigger batteries' and A18 runs more efficient?

It's a good question. Extra battery life is always appreciated, but a phone that weighs half a pound (16 Pro Max) is madness.

If the regular 16 had promotion I might consider it but otherwise no.

If I were to “upgrade” from my 15 Pro, I’d probably go with the regular 16. I don’t need nor want a bigger screen with the Pro. Even though I really like AOD. But at this point, I’m standing pat with my 15 Pro.

Undecided after this years offering. I was every year upgrader until 12pro then skipped to 14pro. I was expecting to upgrade this year to 16pro but now on fence and maybe waiting 1 more year. Probably wouldn’t want to wait till 18 if had 16 and don’t want to upgrade only after year again. If that makes sense.

it does. haha

it's criminal that the best iphone color ever (ultramarine) is stuck on a 60hz display.

Pro over non pro for me because of 120hz and always on display.
The non-Pro is better than ever, but without 120Hz it’s a no-go for me. Pro it is.
Non-pro would never be an option until it has 120hz display for me

I had a 14pm and still have an iPad Pro 11 inch

Getting on just fine with 60hz iPad mini and 13 mini

Would I prefer they be 120hz? Of course but

After a day or an hour or even few minutes without constantly going back and forth you adjust

Low power mode sucks on 120hz iPhones too. Chunky as hell

--

all that said, I do agree $800+ for a 60hz device in almost 2025 is not good.

What I find interesting is that I have an iPhone SE 3rd gen which is 60hz and the scrolling feels smooth on it. When I limit the frame rate on my 15 PM the scrolling feels choppy. I’m guessing that 60hz on screens designed for 60hz feel better than running 60hz on a screen that can support 120hz.

The 15 PM bothers my wrists after using it for some time so I think I may be at my limit in terms of size/weight and the 16 PM is bigger/heavier.

The 15 Pro / Pro Max was size/weight proportionate on both models so they should feel very similar in the hand. The 16 Pro / 16 Pro Max is not and the 16 Pro will likely feel heavier due to this even though it’s lighter and smaller overall.

I have a Pixel 6 Pro which is bigger than the 15 PM but it’s lighter overall. So for me it’s not the size of the device but the weight.

All this to say that I’m now trying to decide between the 16 Plus and 16 Pro Max. I guess the other option is to keep my 15 Pro Max and hope that next year it’s lighter without sacrificing on processor chip and screen quality.

Probably an unpopular opinion but I’d love to buy a Pro or Pro Max made with aluminum. But most people think that heavier = premium so that’s unlikely to happen.

May I get into this boat?
I've had always pro regular sizes iPhone, except for the 2 mini years.
I love the great cameras, and the "drug" effect of the 120 Hz that does this trick in your brain so that you can't live without it anymore.

But size matters to me 😂 Love smaller/lighter/slimmer phones and found my current 15 pro as my "chunky limit". Seeing that 16P gets heavier really piss me off... and love the new 16 colors, want something funnier...

So, Im debating between black 16 pro and ultramarine 16 for my very first time in years.
Cameras seem to be almost identical (barely never use x5 or even x3) and if I could enjoy 12mini and 13mini I guess I can overcome the drug 120 effect and get used to 60 Hz...?
