I got all the larger phones from 8+ to XS Max. I went down to the 12 pro and loved the smaller form for carrying it around (I’m a girl and girl pockets suck). But they changed my Jean pockets even more so I can’t even carry the regular sized phone in my front pocket. So if I have to put it in my back pocket anyways, might as well get the size I prefer.

I just wish we had landscape mode home screens again. I miss that.

This was a great thread for me. I have been considering pro max since I got pro last year, but I switched to a mini in the spring (mainly for fun because I knew I was going to upgrade to the notchless phone). Coming from a mini, I figured I’d just go back with a regular pro, because my kids’ pro phones seem so big now. I got the pro yesterday, but also saw that my Apple store had pro maxes for pickup, so I ordered one to pick up tomorrow - figured I’d give it a try for myself.

After reading this thread though, all my reasons for being hesitant are mentioned here. My hands are small. I want a device I can use in bed and comfortably hold with one hand (tried an iPad mini for that, but it’s bigger than what I want and I can’t get anything to help me hold it the way I want to hold it). I don’t really want extra weight (in fact, I DID consider a 14+ to get size and not weight, but I really missed macro on the camera, and wanted that again).

Bottom line is, though I think I’d enjoy the extra screen size, I don’t think it would be the best choice for me overall.

iPad mini is a very underrated device. Actually feels lighter than the iPhone 14 pro max and makes for a better around the house device. Big bonus is iPadOS which means great multitasking and desktop class browser.

Went from 13 Pro Max to 14 Pro mostly for pocketability reasons; if I had a desk job, I’d stick with the larger size. So far I’m enjoying the size and weight decrease, but suspect will miss the battery life of the PM…

Seriously, more I think about more I realize that 14 Plus could be the hide star of this year. Curiously Apple has decide to release it some weeks after to assure that early adopters and tech guys like us pay for 14 pro max but, I’m sure when people can hold 14 plus in stores wow expression is going to be BIG. Take into account that from xs max, all max iphones have increased the weight (I hate this).
Xs max 208 gr
11 pro max 226 gr
12 pro max 226 gr
13 pro max 238 gr
14 pro max 240 gr
Ipad mini 6 293 gr….
Now we have the chance to have biggest size 6,7” in only 203 gr. Of course you loose some features, but I’m excited to give it a shot.

All I can say as an iPhone 7 Plus user for years: I have a 14 Pro in hand, wish I'd gotten the 14 Pro Max.

I like to use my phone one handed in my left hand - due to the weight, the height of screen and grip I have to now use with the 14 Pro, I'm finding I need to use two hands for alot of input. With this is mind I might as well of bought the biggest device to enjoy the bigger and wider display. 🤦‍♂️

When I first got the case for my Pro Max I had a moment. I couldn’t believe it was bigger than my iPhone 11 Pro Max, which I thought was huge. Now that I have the phone, it’s nothing. Can’t even tell the difference holding it. The only thing that is taking some getting used to is Camera Continent. The camera bump is enormous. The camera lenses are enormous. It’s like clown world back there. But I’ll get used to it. Sure does take nice photos.

Depends how you carry your phone too, if a guy and have to pocket it for work etc a pro would be better, I rarely pocket it, use it at home/office/car, also like the max for typing, Mrs has her max in a handbag so could be mini 6 size lol. My 20 year old daughter loves her mini, offered her my 13 max as an a excuse to get a 14 pro, but nope not interested.
It's all personal preference but I have had no issues with the pocketability with 14 Pro Max. Having had a Blackberry whose sizes were far smaller than the 14 Pro, I am accustomed to using two hands and I use the drop down display feature when I use one hand. In addition to the obvious display and battery life advantages, especially when traveling, it is great not having to carry a tablet.

SO TRUE@@@ Im 6-4 so no issues here!
Indeed. I am 5ft7, I am beginning to love the 6.7inch screen of my 13 PM but it took sometime coming from the smaller 6.5inch 11 PM.
I still think the 6.5inch of Xs Max and 11 Pro Max is the sweet spot, perfect big screen with a nice overall phone size.

However I do like my screens big so the 13PM has really grown on me. I did also get a large case for it. I simply cannot do anything under 6.5inch anymore.

Just thought of something that might help those getting used to size and weight of the 14 Pro Max.

When using it portrait orientation, try consistently using it with both hands. I have done this with since the 12 Pro Max when I came over to the dark side from the Galaxy S10 Plus. Now, for me anyway, I don't feel like I am using an oversize device.

When using it in landscape mode, cradle the device with your thumb at the upper right corner and your palm letting the lower left corner rest across your pinky finger

yeah totally agree 6.5 would be perfect, but don't use a big case on the PM, makes things much worse! Highly recommend Petake.. or something think. Have the new orange leather, super thin!

Glad to see you at least trying it! Honestly, this years PM seems lighter to me for some reason and I can't figure it out... maybe its the apple leather case? I feel with the big camera, the PM is best because of the length (long and skinny) and therefore, it is more balanced in the hand.. I think it feels great! and the screen!! amazing!

If anyone is on the fence between the two sizes I would say get the pro max and see what you think. It really isn’t as big as the pages and pages and pages of discussions would make it out to be. I went from X to 14PM and it really doesn’t feel huge. If anything the X now looks and feels small.
I went from 13 Pro to 14 Pro Max and I agree with you-not a huge difference for me

I feel like I swap models and colors every few years, by the time the new phone comes out - I am tired of the form factor.

This year trying the Pro Max out as my battery life has been horrible with the 13 Pro and after adding a magsafe battery / battery case - its as heavy and bulky than the max.
I’m kinda in the same boat. Had 11,12 & 13 pros so I needed a change in form factor. Extra battery is certainly welcome along with watching videos/movies in landscape. Reg pros made video look cramped IMO

I did the opposite, 13 Pro Max to 14 Pro. The Pro Max is definitely usable, just a personal preference, it felt big overall with one-handed uses for me. The screen size and of course the battery life is incredible. If I notice a major battery drop on the 14 Pro over the next 1-2 weeks, I'll exchange it for a 14 Pro Max.

This is why I love the forums-help people decide what’s best for them. Also I like that family is the first thing on your signature.

I don’t mind, I like big cases 😂 makes the phone feel even more premium and weighty, haha!
I completely agree though for most people a nice slim grippy case can make the difference!

Im going from 13 pro max to a 14 pro. pro max is too big imo. can't be used with one hand and my dji gimbal struggles with the size of it. Hoping battery life doesn't take a huge hit. Pro max screen size was nice but I have iPad Pro for lounging around and watching videos, etc

It is IMO a case of pick your compromise, you will always wish you had a bigger screen but then the burden of carrying and using the thing may or may not outweigh that. I said on another thread how I have enjoyed the standard 13 pro especially in the summer when wearing mostly just shorts and a t-shirt.

I think people often make the mistake of thinking they were ok with say the 8 plus or 11 pro max so the 14PM will be fine too which may or may not be the case, the size and weight has crept up and the 13/14PM are bigger and heavier than the 11 or 12. I had the S22 ultra too this year despite it’s heft it was way easier to manage than the 13 pro max was for me at least.

If I replace my 11 pro max by 14 pro, I’m going to miss extra 0,4” for sure, and If I don’t return 14PM I’m going to be annoyed because is uncomfortable and I don’t have this feel with my current 11 PM. So damn it Apple, I have had 6 plus, 7 plus, XS Max, 11 PM and since 12 I’m not sure what model to pick every year because I see compromises in both options compared with 11 PM…

I have not missed my pro max screen yet. Refreshing to have a normal sized phone. Worried about battery life. Going to Dallas Cowboys game all day today. Should be a good test of the new phone vs my old pro max.

I personally prefer the pro smaller size, but my eyesight disagrees with me and prefers the pro max larger size.

Many of you don't have that problem yet, lucky lot 😁

Coming from an iPhone 12 Pro Blue to an iPhone 14 Pro Max Space Black.
I have that problem :/
