Maybe you can try connecting to the different ports of your Sapphire RX580. There's another MR thread here as the user is getting a black screen issue on his 2009 Mac Pro with Sapphire RX580

I will try again the other ports, currently I’m trying only the dvi

I understand some of the Sapphire RX 580s there is a switch that allows you to switch the bios to different styles. One might be a "mining" setting, you could try switching that switch and rebooting. I also heard that that has no effect on a Mac, but it might be worth a try.

It’s strange how your system report doesn’t show the gpu ram....!

Just a long shot, but what firmware version are you on?
the mac pro is 4,1 flashed to 5,1, then I upgraded the cpu's... I try the Clean install of High Sierra but it didn't work either... I'm still stuck...I'm thinking now on flashing the bios on the gpu, reset back to factory default if somebody upgraded in some point... any thoughts on that?

But what is your mac firmware (boot rom version)......?
Look in system report, select top line ‘hardware’.

Greatly appreciate it.
Mac Pro, 5,1 running High Sierra firmware MP51.0089.B00 with 10.13.6.. Accelsior SSD (bootable) stata bay.

Went to install a *brand new* Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 580 to replace my Radeon 5870.

I plugged it in the card and I hear a Cd drive noise, but the power LED. does not turn on and try to boot.

DID all my homework the best I could and I don't know what happened, but I know there's power, but nothing seems to happen or boot, and when I hold the power button in I can hear it click power off even though I nothing happening ?

I even reverted to back my original 5870 and that does not power on either ( FINGERS CROSSED)

You are using both cards?

Did you connected power correctly to the HD5870 after you removed the RX 580?

Greatly appreciate what you do to help us all, as well as others.

Yes I put back on the 5870 back in correctly with the (2) separate plugins for the card.

The fan is spinning on the 5870, but the power LED light is not coming ?

I've swapped out the OWC SSD card and put a regular spinner drive with Mt. Lion to see if that would work, but only the video card fan spinning, and I can feel the hard drive spinning also, but no LED. Ah man, I was so excited to upgrade to to the 580.

Yes I did hook up the 5870 correctly with both cables

Hey there, I don’t post much cuz these guys know or have found the answers. Go back and install the boot ROM from the Mojave installer. Even if you don’t use Mojave use the boot ROM. There are step by step guides here if you search well

Check if you didn't damage anything installing the GPUs or power cables, people some times rip off some ICs near the PCIe AUX boost connectors.

First off, thank you all for your valuable time.
Checked around the plugins around the two mini plug in port with a magnifying glass and everything looks good.

Here's what actually happening. I press on the power button and I hear a normal click and the power light doesn't turn on, although I see the video card fan spinning on the 5780, and I can actually feel the spinner hard drive spinning that has three partitions, High Sierra/ Mt. Lion / and a blank partition, I also stuck a USB stick in the back and that is blinking. I assume there's power, but no booting ?

I did everything correctly when upgrading to the new Sapphire X580.and this happened.

If it's booting, check if screen sharing or network shares are working. Test another display, another video cable, etc.

No booting, no power light activity. Removed all memory except left two sticks. Behind power activity light in the case there's a DIAG LED. I pressed that and a tiny light adjacent to the DIAG LED. It lights up and next to it says 5v sys, if that's any help ?. I also moved the original video card to the next 16x PCI slot.

Video card fan spinning & USB stick blinks, so power is there. Man I hope it's not the logic board ?

Note: When connecting the Mac Pro to AC power, verify that the LEDs for OVTMP CPUA and OVTMP CPUB briefly flash red (less than 0.5 sec). The LEDs are located under hard drive bay 1 on the backplane board. If they do not illuminate briefly, there is an issue with either the power supply or the backplane board. They blink indicating no power supply or board issues.

Note: The OVTMP CPUA and OVTMP CPUB LEDs on a properly functioning Mac Pro will also momentarily flash red immediately after the Mac Pro is disconnected from AC power. Momentarily flash when I unplug the power cord

EFI DONE is off when DIAG button is pressed? If so, you have a brick.

It's not the GPU changing process that caused it, unless you did it while the power cable was connected to the PSU. You probably had something going on before and the changing the GPU was just the last drop.

You have to diagnose, doing all the steps Apple listed on the Mac Pro Technician Guide. EFI DONE not being lit when you press the DIAG button could be caused by a defective backplane, defective PSU or a corrupted SPI flash (brick).

Thanks

I'm going through the troubleshoot steps and will keep you posted. I made sure I unplugged the power cord before installing the new Video card.

I notice only the video card fan is running, and a activity light on USB stick is blinking, but no power light lighting or booting. Very strange that the Video card fan is spinning, but no case fans ?

tank you.
