Wish i had os x but i have an unactivated copy of windows and cant set wallpapers

There's always specifically-tailored Linux distributions that are designed to mimic other systems...

And its awesome power of customization...

All high-quality, all free...

Just sayin'...
[doublepost=1534522156][/doublepost]For what it's worth, I'd like to make it public that if I need a specific wallpaper, I'd consult this resource first instead of anyone else's, because this little thread here has something nobody else does.

One hell of a backing community. And that's a powerful asset that not all causes can claim.

Thank you all.

Thank you so much for all of the wallpapers, Gamer9430! I was wondering, does anyone maybe have a list of what wallpapers were included with what version of macOS/OS X? I'd love to sort them all in different folders, but I have no idea how to do it... Thanks in advance :D

Hi.
Got a few notes here:
localizations and orderedpictures.plist are not updated to include everything.
Only OS X had wallpapers stored in /Library/Desktop Pictures so i suggest making a separate folder for classic oses
and since lion they've introduced the thumbnails orderedpictures and localizations.
I am collecting this too and i am going to provide a updated .orderedpictures.plist
There's a wallpaper mentioned by orderedpictures.plist that we do not have: Architecture.jpg
also in some cases as ya probably already know; there's computer exclusive wallpapers and sometimes updates bring new wallpapers

Also: is there someone who collects user pictures by chance? (sorry for the offtopic question)

Already have those included in the pack, but thank you. I will be updated the pack tonight with more OS 9 wallpapers and the Mojave wallpapers.

Hey @Gamer9430, I really appreciate your work in compiling all these nostalgic wallpapers but I'd like to follow up on the comment by @AnonMac50 that this pack still seems to be missing the "Faux Fur" wallpapers added in 10.2 Jaguar and on. They matched the fur patterns of the 'X' logo of the given system.

I've attached an example, showing its place in the Nature collection of the 10.2 Desktop prefpane.

Huh, I must have completely glossed over what AnonMac said. I don't think I realized there were more pictures from those OSes that I was missing. If you have those, I'd greatly appreciate it!

It's been awhile since I've checked on this thread, but glad to see its still getting attention!

@Gamer9430 @Mymlan @AnonMac50 In a serendipitous turn of events, I have just found this particular wallpaper image hosted on a French-language blog here: https://www.journaldulapin.com/2012/08/04/pixar-apple-et-la-faux-fur-de-mac-os-x-10-2/

you guys should join up instead of trying to compete.
so im looking back here and honestly, i find both collections, gamer9430's and nucleam's are a bit messy.
google photos downside is that it does compression and somewhat hides information, whereas while dropbox one is the plain files; having it all together can get super confusing, i suggest putting subfolders and such.

Also im looking for the exclusive desktop pictures that get shipped with some macs. and developer beta exclusivities too..

Would be cool if Apple would have a gallery on their site to download old wallpapers organized by device/os, etc.

I've got a folder I call "classic Wallpapers" that take me back to the days of my first mac ownership in the early 2000s. I used the archives in this forum nd Pixelmator upscale feature and am pleased with the results on my iMac 27"Screen Shot 2021-03-27 at 11.51.28 AM.pngScreen Shot 2021-03-27 at 11.51.41 AM.pngScreen Shot 2021-03-27 at 11.51.53 AM.pngScreen Shot 2021-03-27 at 11.51.57 AM.png

On 2nd thought, I bitterly hate Big Sur and think the PPC OS’s are real platforms. The wallpaper is all I am after.

Gamer, thanks for your work. It makes me so happy when I look at this folder on my computer. Thanks for all your work.

Original Post: So this isn't exactly PowerPC related, but being that this involves PPCs and that this community usually is open to helping out with fun stuff like this, I figured I'd post this thread here.

I've always thought that it would be awesome to have a complete collection of every desktop wallpaper included with every Mac OS version, ranging from the earliest version of System 7 with wallpaper support all the way through to macOS High Sierra, spanning in total 27 major OS releases and 27 years between the initial release of System 7 and High Sierra.

So far I've put together Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, and El Capitan into a folder using my Mac Pro. I can easily get Leopard and Tiger, but the other OSes will be difficult for me to get the wallpapers from. I know someone by the name of @bunnspecial has a multitude of beige boxes running various OSes, as well as a PMG4 running every version of OS X for PPC, so perhaps he can lend a hand with some of these

Updated Post: Thanks to the strong community we have here at MacRumors, we have been able to track down and include every Wallpaper/Desktop Picture from every version of MacOS to date. This will continue to be updated as needed with new OS releases that bring new wallpapers, as well any new discoveries that might have been made. Thanks again to everyone who helped in some way with this project!

Hello, the link actually got disabled by DropBox temporarily yesterday because of “high traffic volume”. They didn’t give me a date as to when the link would become reactived, so I might have to look into an alternate hosting method, likely Mega or something like that.
