I don’t necessarily disagree. I’m still trying to figure out what exactly is going on here. For me it’s definitely not 120. But it’s 120 while dragging windows, using Apple news, and App Store.

My 24” iMac looks smooth or about the same compared to my MacBook.
See to me it looks pretty much the same when I scroll in Edge vs when I drag the Edge window. There is some slight blur/ghosting, but that's about it. Maybe *slightly* less smooth when scrolling because I think Edge has their own "Smooth Scrolling" algorithm that might need to be tweaked for these new MBPs. Not sure.

All I can say is it is night and day vs Safari when scrolling ATM and pretty similar if not exactly the same as when I drag the Edge window. Definitely not 60Hz though. If I turn off Promotion and set it to 60Hz and scroll in Edge, it looks different - like Safari is all the time right now.

Regardless, I am hopeful for a full fix from Apple soon. I use Edge on my Windows gaming PC so it isn't the end of the world for me for now, but I use Safari on my iPhone and would rather use Safari on my MBP for auto text msg filling for authentication, etc.

Edit: One thing I noticed. If you set it manually to 60Hz and then back to Promotion, it doesn't go back up to 120Hz until you completely close Edge and reopen the browser. (command Q)

I posted this video on the other thread and Safari is definitely 60fps. And apple needs to update it.

For Edge/Chrome, they can display 120fps content but scrolling is 60fps.

Uh no. it’s objectively 120hz in chrome versus safari. Like I said go to blur busters and you’ll see it.

What you perceive isn’t objective.

Yup. 100% agreed.
Okay - I think I will agree that scrolling in Edge is 60Hz when you let go of the trackpad. If you keep your hand on the trackpad it seems smoother and doesn't rely on whatever behind the screens acceleration/deceleration they use for scrolling.

When I keep my fingers on the trackpad and scroll, it definitely feels like 120Hz, but as soon as I let go and let it do it's thing it gets choppier. Regardless, it is strange and hopefully a quick fix.

So it's app-dependent. Got it, thanks for the 4 pages! Hopefully Apple updates Safari soon and Google follows suit with Chrome. Tbh Chrome might get updated sooner if you use Canary.

Pretty surprised they haven't updated Safari to make use of this, usually that's the sort of attention to detail Apple is good at. I'm still waiting on the lazy UPS driver to do his job an deliver my MacBook to see for myself. Yestarday they delivered my AirPods but not my MacBook Pro because reasons, even although they were both out for delivery.

Some webpages load a ton of scripts on the desktop Safari. Some ads with animations or videos are forcing 60hz.

If you want to know if it's working - just simply use the SCROLL BAR on the right of the window - drag it up and down and you can see how it's even <60hz refresh.

However, if you put your finger on the trackpad and scroll (not letting up for that interia scrolling effect to come on), it will be running at smoothly what looks to be greater than 60hz

This has to be a safari software bug.

The founder of Blur Busters even stated Safari won't work on TestUFO in an old MacRumors thread. However, they are not saying 120hz doesn't work at all in Safari so I wouldn't trust that test.

You want to see true 60hz, try out a iPad Mini 6 ha.

No joke. Actually, the full reviews had better rip Apple a new one, because this screen isn't as good as it should be. The blooming is REALLY bad (much worse than on my new iPad Pro 12.9), but note also the elevated black levels. Here's a screenshot from the end credits of Blade Runner 2049. This in motion is terrible, but notice too how the backlight is not off for the surrounding area, so there's elevated blacks in dark scenes. Also, even ABOVE the black bars the screen is showing elevated blacks. What on earth, Apple?

Oh please! If the blooming is that bad to your eye then return your laptop. Mine works perfectly. And this picture is totally representative of what I’m seeing in person, with the screen brightness set to maximum.

I have tested Safari developer preview, Chrome, and Edge, and they all have the same issue.
What if you force 60hz? Does News look the same as Safari when you do it?

At least its not just one browser. Crazy how basic web browsing has issues but nobody has really mentioned it. Hopefully this thread grows.

When I force 60hz News goes to 60hz. So it looks like Safari. But strangely Safari appears to be even lower than 60hz. It stutters even more than before.

Yeah there’s another thread for this. Blade Runner 2049 has elevated blacks on the original UHD, so you can dismiss those thoughts. You can Google that issue… (unrelated to the display).

Can we please get this on the front page? I really do not want Apple missing this.
I’m surprised it’s not there already. I’m also surprised that I still have yet to see a single YouTube reviewer talk about this. Still a lot of mixed reactions to the issue, but something is clearly not right for some of us.

I've watched some reviewers using webpages and it seems to not show up. Everyone is still doing benchmarks so probably be a day or two before the "5 things wrong with new Macbooks" videos start showing up. Conversely, maybe you got a defective screen...

This is what I’m afraid of. It’s going to be a hassle and probably a huge wait for me if I need to get a new one.

The thing is though that some things are 120hz. If it was a screen defect surely nothing would go 120hz right? And other users here are having the same issue.

I’m still confused about what exactly is going on because I did look for scrolling in different reviews and it looked smooth to me in various videos.

No, you're right. I started reading some other threads as well so the "issue" seems to be more widespread but why none of the reviewers haven't mentioned it is still the question of the day. If I was bored and had one of those I would blow away the OS and reinstall to see what happens. I'm looking at getting one but ProMotion was one of the main reasons I wanted it so I'll be standing by.

This may have already been stated. Something def isn't perfect with the MacOS implementation.
Loading up Windows 11 in Parallels and it is INSANELY smooth and responsive.

Yep I noticed this as well and made a reddit post on the r/apple sub to ask if other noticed that day 1 and so far a lot of people have noticed.
