Safari is definitely running at 60hz. Chrome is at 120hz.

You can test it here and see that Chrome loads at 120 and Safari loads at 60. It just needs to be updated by Apple.

Yes all other non native browsers are not capped at 60hz and 120hz is working.

However if you allow the scrolling to go off on its own by swiping up or down and letting go then the promotion fails and does not stabilize on the 120hz working browsers. Basically safari is capped to 60hz and the adaptive pro motion is not working on any scrolling other than native apple applications minus safari.

ok so i figured out why the pro motion doesn't seem to be working. If you go to accessibility and turn off scrolling inertia the display will feel a-lot smoother. I noticed this because when i kept my fingers on the trackpad while scrolling the display felt smooth but as soon as I removed my fingers and let the scrolling inertia continue the display would hitch and become 60 hz. I believe this has to do with apple implantation of variable refresh rate (VRR) and how it lowers its refresh rate dynamically to conserve battery where it can. Its a shame that i have to turn off inertia scrolling to experience the true 120 hz because I prefer it but until apple hopefully makes an update this is how I will have to use this device. Hope this post helps anyone else that noticed this pro motion issue.

hmm tried it in chrome, I can't tell a difference, however I do think scrolling in chrome is smoother than safari.

ok yea safari is deff locked at 60 but chrome is deff smoother. Im still not sure if chrome is 120hz but it is much smoother than safari. @EnderTW open the news app side by side next to chrome and compare the scrolling. The news app is for sure running at 120hz and when i compare it side to side with chrome it looks just as smooth as the news app.

I can't believe this hasn't been picked up by MacRumors or other outlets, it's a pretty big oversight when browsers can't even work with ProMotion right now. Hoping this is acknowledged and a fix is on the way asap.
Yeah i'm right there with you. For the price of the laptop and advertisement of this feature to have it not even working in their native browser is absurd to me. Not only that, safari is actually the worst performer due to 60hz locking. No inertia scrolling in 120hz on any browser either. Its ridiculous.

I don’t know if it helps at all, but I just posted a bug report here: https://www.apple.com/feedback/

Maybe if even more people do the same, it might get some traction internally and fixed even faster? Just a small suggestion!

Also - what apps besides News do you feel like is working as it should up to 120Hz? I want an app to compare Safari with on my own, but News is not available in my country.

if you have photos saved the photos app runs in 120 hz. what you can do is take a screenshot of a webpage and open that screenshot in the photos app and then compare compare the photo of the webpage to the actual webpage and then you should be able to notice the actual difference in scrolling fluidity.

It's not just Safari. Other apps are affected. I noticed the 60Hz scrolling in Spark and Things 3. I contacted Things 3 support about 120Hz support and they said this, "Thanks for getting in touch! We hope to add support for this later this year."

Can confirm that this issue is fixed in the 12.1 Developer beta, if anyone has access download and test for yourself!

And holy crap.. I was wrong before because the difference is noticeable.

Public beta just released today. Maybe I'll give it a shot.

Edit: Installing public beta now. Man I hate how slow the Apple servers are sometimes. 600mbps fiber connection and only getting like 2 MB/sec on a 12GB download.
