I am excited for it but fully admit that it will actually not really affect my life.

They'll announce a new Android OS which Samsung won't implement for 6 years and a bunch of cool stuff that won't be massively useful to me.

If there's going to be a product announcement, when does that usually take place? I looked at tomorrows schedule and the Keynote address is slated for 9am PST.

Typically the only "product" announced would be the new Nexus tablet. And then some other stuff, maybe TV related, or different technology.

But never the Nexus smartphones, at I/O.

I expect that. I am no Touchwiz fan, and LOVE my M8 converted to GPE, but an S5 GPE would be cool, a nice waterproof phone with the best OS.
I converted my M8 to GPE...but after a couple days I missed Sense...... so i switched back to a Sense stock rom.

One of our devs at work is going. I asked her to bring back some of those Android toys they give out :D
Ahhh.....I miss that about going to conferences.......all the vendor swag!
Maybe I will go to the next Gartner Summit.

I did too originally, didn't like stock 4.4.2 for whatever reason, and found the Sense 6 ROM's better.

Then I got bored, and tried the brand new 4.4.3 GPE, and wow, I LOVE it, not going back to Sense for awhile. Not sure what .3 did to Kit Kat, but so much nicer than .2, and battery life is off the charts.

I liked the revised Dialer, Contacts, Stock email apps.

The end of 2 updates a year? We've been on 4.x for a couple of years now. Point updates are not full OS updates. ICS, JB and KitKat are iterations. 5.0 will be a completely new ui.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if Google went full 3D UI and Scott Forstall helped in the design? :D

True but we went from ICS to KitKat which were 3 pretty good upgrades. Jelly Bean was a big upgrade to ICS. JB and KK were bigger upgrades to Android than 5 to 6 and 7 on iOS

every update ive ever known on android has been .x

started with ics on the crappy hp touchpad :p

then jb onwards with a phone with actual support

Id think 5.0 will be pretty good. Ive been on Android since 2.1 Eclair. Though as i said above, i think JB from ICS was big.

I'm honestly not really all that excited. Android phones are getting bigger and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight to this trend. I am extremely impressed by what Apple showed with continuity and I hate Chrome OS, so even if Google showed something similar (unlikely) I wouldn't use it...

Overall, I love Android, but I don't think there's anything that will change my mind this time. Here's hoping to be proved wrong.

EDIT: Oh and I seriously hope, in the name of all that is holy, that they don't change anything about the Holy UI, no Kennedy or anything. It's been hard to transition from GB to Holo as is, even now I find many apps that are either in GB format or that don't follow the Holo guidelines properly and then there are apps like ES file Explorer which I am not sure are going which path. So please Google, no new theme.

If google did continuity like features Id bet they'd be cross platform

not a chrome os lock in
thats more of apple's mo :p
it'd probably be a chrome browser extension or something

Yeah but then it wouldn't be as strong. Continuity works well because Mac is a full blown OS, Chrome isn't.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I couldn't agree more. The new iOS will be nothing to write home about, maybe a new font or they will change the phone icon. Meanwhile Android continues to make leaps and strides with a whole host of new features

You had a few typos there. Fixed it! Now it makes sense. ;)

Of course, it'll be a preview of what's to come on iOS 9.

Funny, MKBHD said the same thing. iOS 8 just got 3rd party keyboard support and now the next iPhone will likely have a larger screen(s). Features that have been available on Android for years now. And no, Apple wasn't spending all those years "perfecting" those features.

Hmm I can't think of anything in continuity that couldn't be done through chrome browser. Of course the caveat would be you'd have to leave chrome running. Maybe the hotspot stuff
