While you stated the pluses of the S7 for you, what made you decide to make a change in the first place? Also, how long have you used the devices?

I've found that in the past when I've tried to use Android devices I would be amazed with the device the first day and by the second day I would immediately want to return the device. Mostly because things were different and I just wanted to go back what I knew. Which is odd because one of my reasons for picking up an Android phone was because I wanted a change.

I did read that you've already gone back to the iPhones, but I'm just curious as to what prompted you to pick up the S7's as you already have the 6s which is still a top phone.

I guess I thought the grass was greener, just wanted a change also. After reading about the upcoming iPhone 8, I decided it might be better to wait. Also I own Mac and Apple TV, so I have investments. I did like the S7 edge, but not enough to spend the money.

I prefer my 6S+ currently, Sammy has too much junk but to satisfy my desire for an Android (was about to go w Note7) I got the BB DTEK60 which is clean Android system and promise of monthly security updates and support. And cut ties with AT&T carrier plan.

If the iPhone 7S comes in rumored midsize 5.1" I'm game.

Fair enough, thanks for the reply. This is exactly why the carriers offer 14-days to test out the devices, so no worries. Hopefully the iPhone 8 lives up to the rumors, but I think I'm more interested in iOS 11 at this point.

I recently gave my 4s to a longtime Android user. She loves and much prefers the I Phone

I recently bought for friend Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 (with snapdragon) and she was iPhone 4s user. She was like whoa, this thing is badass. I bought it for 150$ from aliexpress.

Has anyone noticed the increasing usage of the word "investment" into almost anything expensive? I feel like that's a word used to justify the purchases made. If you call buying an iPhone an investment I'd have to break it to ya it's a bad investment you can do the same tasks with something at half the price. It's off topic I know but thought I'd bring it up. I bought an iPhone 7 too but wouldn't really call it an an investment.

My mate lost her phone mid-contract and bought some cheapo thing outright for £100 to tide her over. It does everything she needs for 1/6th of the outlay. It's amazing how capable cheap smartphones are these days.

Back in March I switched from an iPhone 6S to the S7 Edge. Beautiful phone but the battery life tanked after 3 months. Android is a nice operating system, just not for me. I wanted to use widgets but they killed my battery life even more....there was no point. Also, I needed to restart the phone frequently because it would freeze up. I got the full Android experience but at a sacrifice. I really ended up missing iOS.

In the end, I ended up getting an iPhone 7 in October and probably won't switch again. I'm comfortable with it and it works for me. That's all that matters.

I also had the S7 Edge for a few months. Its a beautiful phone and there are some things I liked about it like the screen, design and customization but like others have said Android just needed too much tinkering. I was checking to see what was killing my battery and trying to optimize things to make it run smoothly. Things my iPhone did automatically. Plus with the Edge version screen protectors are crap and not a good selection of cases either. The phone felt very fragile and I was always afraid of dropping it. I did also miss iMessage alot so I ended up going back to my 6s Plus

I have to agree, as much as I liked the edge, widgets draining battery and no good screen protection caused me to give it up and return to my iPhone 6S plus.

The S7 is a very good phone and both S7 and Edge have been rated best of 2016. Now, I am sure this depends on which article you read so am not trying to set off a discussion point here. I have had android phones since the mid 90's and always liked them. To me, the main difference between the S7 and iPhone is that you do not have the flexibility with iOS that you have with android. IOS locks you in to a "what you see is what you get" use whereas Android can be customized to a very large degree. On the other hand, IOS protects you more from viruses than Android does. Android offers a cheaper storage rate based on SD cards and often have better displays than iPhone plus a much greater selection and price point opportunity. I went to the iPhone 7 purely because I had moved to a mbp and iPod, plus all my family back east used iPhones so this was the right next phone for me. My wife went with the S7 and won't even look at the iPhone ;) and likes the way Samsung works. It is nothing more than a preference as to which phone you have. Both are very good pieces of technology and you really can't go wrong with either one. But, if you live in an :apple: world and have all their devices, then the iPhone makes a bit more sense. Beyond that, they are both phones with a lot of extras.

Better camera, better battery life, better screen those three things are better on Samsung S7/edge. Well I don't know this is major things that are crucial on phones. Only things that is better on the iPhone is easy to use and standby time. The thing is that people are almost zero IT educated so after using iOS and getting android phone they are lost in settings. People are lazy to search and use Google. When problem exist you can in 99% solve this on Android. When problem exist in iOS you can't do anything because it's closed system.

One could argue two of those from a preference point of view. Battery life goes to the iPhone in my opinion. A look at Anandtech's battery benchmarks are pretty convincing. Also, if color accuracy is extremely important, the new iPhones are the most color accurate on the market but I will say OLED is my favorite display technology and the S7/S7 Edge do have the best displays on the market, with the 7 Plus in a close second.

That's not always the case though is it? Most of the people i know if not all who work in IT use iPhones in my part of the world. I use an iPhone because it's easy hassle free mostly and I don't have to spend time fiddling around with it. I'm IT savvy. I'm also yet to find a task I can't do on it. I'd rather not encounter issues if I can help it.

Well yes, it's not always the case, but you know what i mean. People who use iPhone for so long cannot use Android device, except those who are IT educated. They use couple of apps such as Facebook, Viber, Instagram and Snapchat period. Of course they do browsing, but thats it. Then when they switch they are like Alice in Wonderland, they don't know how to deal with open system and so many options. So they are confused and turn on/off so many things that will work/drain/stop things. Afterall the easiest is to say Android is garbage because they have lost in using device and switch back to iPhone.

I'm former android guy, used android from begginings (donut, eclair etc) and now I switched to try iOS on iPhone 7. I got good deal with my carrier so I said why not. There are cons and pros, many cons from my point of view, but I'll try to settle with iOS. I will try to use it 1 year and if they don't "fix" notifications (group it app by app), upgrade camera app to shoot RAW or maybe to make options for JPEG compressing and for me know foremost is to fix their push servers, because I sometimes get delayed notifications (wifi, LTE doesn't matter), I'll need to go back to Android. Then I can say that I tried and system didn't meet my expectation or didn't move in good directions.

Did you even look at Anandtech's display review for the iPhone and compare it to the S7 Edge? Also, take a look at displaymate's review of the iPhone 7's display.

Agreed. I'd say if I were ever to make a come back with Android it would be with the Oneplus 3T or whatever successor comes along. It costs half the price of recent flagship and excels in specs and performance compared to what is out there at the moment. I don't think it's fair to compare Android experience to an IOS through a Samsung device. So for the OP if you decide to stick to Android at some point go for a OP3T, you won't be disappointed.

Cheap androids run like crap though. Hell even my S7 with 4gb of ram didn't run as smoothly as iOS on my iPhone se. I suppose if that occasional stutter doesn't bother you then great but I find it highly annoying

Actually iOS also not fully buttery smooth now. Any phone with resolution Full HD and above will facing slightly shutter from time to time.

Just the frequency is a lot or once in a while only.

I own S7 Edge previously and it is also very smooth. The smoothness didn't loose to iPhone 7 Plus at all (beside games).

I fully agree on what you said.

Just iOS also start complicating as well now and this lead to some user that don't want explore feel old iOS is better.

But for people that love explore will find iOS now is better especially those came from android one. More functionality and setting is much welcome to me.

I wouldn't really call $400+ cheap. It runs a very lightly customized version of Android so you still get close to vanilla experience. Again stock Android experience can be just as good as iOS considering the amount of customizations available. You can even check the various YouTube comparisons where the Oneplus 3/3Tb is at par with iPhone 7.

I am owner of S7 Edge and it is buttery smooth except press and hold going to themes area and scrolling those themes.

iPhone 6 Plus (my sister ex. phone and now it run iOS 10.2 consider pretty bad, most the time is shutter here and there,), iPhone 7 Plus (mine one & also my sister new phone) also got part not buttery smooth, the most obvious is scrolling those recent apps.

None in this world got 100% buttery smooth phone, include stock android phone like Nexus series or latest iPhone, all in all is very smooth but none is every single part running 100% smooth.

Cheap android if you means those lower end where is very cheap phone, what you expect. You can't compare with iPhone that never cheap. iPhone SE consider higher-middle range price phone not lower end.

As for middle range android now is very smooth as long as at least running Snapdragon 650 or equivalent, those never have issue on performance or smoothness. Off course it is not 100% smooth everywhere as high-end phone now also can't make it.
