Honestly, yeah, as others have said, this is kind of odd logic.

I'm not sure what your plan is instead, if you do return your MBP. Do you think there's a laptop manufacturer out there who sells laptops that have 0% defect rates or have no potential to develop problems?

Honestly, take a look at the manufacturer forums at notebookreview.com. You can pick any company, and you will see tons of threads about all sorts of problems. Look at all the threads for the new Dell Inspirons for example (grainy screens, hinges falling apart, problems with headset jacks, etc.). Or the Lenovo forums; a lot of the X61t tablets have a problem where the screen comes loose from the bezel while opening it because the glue gets heated up.

There is a huge potential for a problem to come up... since 50% of the macbook pros have issues.

I purchased it last week, so its still within 14 days- hence the urgency to set my mind on returning it before time expires...

So could anyone please tell me when it will be safe to buy an MBP?

if anything goes wrong with it within a year they will fix it free.

Haha - I wonder about people's logic, makes me nervous!

You are way too paranoid man - you can't go through life thinking like that, you'll go insane.

To the OP, I'll buy it off of you for 80% of what you paid for it, and you won't even have to worry about whether they'll take it back or not. pm me if you're still trying to get rid of it.

This clown makes me embarrassed to be from Texas...And I thought that there would NEVER come a time when I would say that...

Come on now, the biggest clown from Texas runs the country (or the world for that matter) and you are more embarrassed by this guy?

Like many others have said, just keep it. The next laptop from Apple will still have problems, and so well any laptop in the world made by any manufacturer. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Have fun, enjoy your mbp and get extended apple care before the end of year so you'll have 3 worry-free years. By then, you should probably change your laptop anyway.

my macbook pro has been running fine without any issues for a week, but i am scared that if a problem comes up, i wont be able to return it. so i am thinking of returning it right now, and buy it when the problems have been fixed by apple.

Worse still, your girlfriend might get fat after marriage. Safest bet, dump her and wait until all women stop getting fat after marriage.

If the failure rate is really 50% that would make MBPs worse than Xbox 360s, and no one would ever believe that.

And I don't think the number of complaints here is above normal. People don't often come on to post about how often their laptop is (though I've seen a few). The internet just becomes a place to issue complaints and is in no way a good representation of problems.

You mean you haven't already returned it? That should've been the very first thing you did once you got it.

To summerize: Keep the laptop; Ditch the friend.

Don't feed the trolls. If this is legit, this guy has bigger problems than a MBP that MAY develop a pimple some day...like the sheer feer of breathing because...oh my god, he might catch a cold.

Precisely, because the last thing the Mac community needs, is someone who's paranoid about life...

LOL this is easily the stupidest thread and question I have seen in a LONG time. This includes all the "macs have no software and are slow" arguments i've heard in the last few days while trying to convince someone that a macbook pro would be good for their purposes.

I don't even know how to respond except that... for the macbook pros sake, you should probably return it. If you honestly think there will be a day where all the potential problems that could ever come up will be fixed, you obviously have never used a computer before. This is what warranties are for.

If this isn't a joke then.. :confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

It would be like me returning my Xbox 360 because I heard that a lot of them have been breaking on people. Mine runs perfectly fine, but you know, there's always that potential of mine breaking too (even though the Xbox is about a fifth the cost of a MBP).

If I actually cared enough, I'm sure I could find "potential flaws" in every single laptop model available today. So then, let me pose this question to you...

If all hardware is "potentially flawed," what are you going to use?

if there was a manufacturer with a 0% defect rate, or even a 3% defect rate, they would have almost 100% market share. If for example I came out with a new company that makes laptops and they had the same great design/hardware as the best laptops on the market but NOT ONE OF THEM would ever be defective, I would clearly dominate the laptop market!

Why would you buy it if you just plan to return it? With apple that's a bad move because of the restocking fee...if you wanted to rent you should have gone to a big box store, lol.

If you're happy with it, then keep it! don't return it. or you can fedex it to me, I'll take it :)

Is this a wind up?

Do you stay in your house all day because 'potentially' you could get run over by a bus?

You only hear about so many problems on this site because people are more vocal about their problems rather than how good their product is...

If there;s a report that 50% of the buses on the street are on a stampede, yes- I might just stay indoors, or excercise extreme caution.

my machine is not having any problems, but considering the number of problems people are having, and there have also been talks of Apple screwing up QC, what do you expect me to think? I have worked hard to get the 3000 bucks... I dont want to own a dud machine.. But I appreciate your feedback.

*****EDIT****
I see that you folks are misunderstanding my concern.

I am not planning on returning the macbook pro because JUST LIKE ANY OTHER MACHINE it may develop problems.

I am planning on returning it because of the issues tons of people have ALREADY EXPERIENCED, and the QUALITY CONTROL of Apple is being questioned. My thinking was that I should return this, and once Apple irons out the present issues and its QC problems, then I would buy it.

I do buy tons of electronic equipment and do take the risk of them getting damaged. But the case with macbook pro is that people have always complained about it since it was introduced- heat, audio port crackles, yellow tint, poor thermal paste application.. just to mention a few.

Hey everyone,

Don't take this too seriously--it's a joke for Pete's sake.

It's a pretty good one, though, about how people can get a little too wound up by what they see in these forums.

Notice the OP is a newbie user starting from today, with just two posts, in this thread. Hmmmmmm...

The following, however, is a dangerous distortion:

;)

I am completely new to the mac family, and I was not aware of this website before. I just registered to post my concern and see what experienced users had to say. I am sorry if I screwed up somewhere here.

I would happily go outside on that day that 50% of buses are stampeding because buses don't stampede. :D

Problems are always blown up on forums, because the people who have problems are the ones who come and ask for other people to listen and give feedback.

If you're that scared of issues, I urge you to be scared of things worth being scared about. Not things that can be solved by warranty or Applecare.

It's okay to be concerned, but your concern extending to returning something that isn't broken because it might break is a bit much.

Ok, return it. Do we care if you don't have a Mac? It's probably better you don't have a Mac, you don't seem educated enough to use one, let alone a computer.

I don't see the point in posting here if you are so reluctant to keep it. Just take it back and shut your trap.

Strong words, but he's got a point.

A month ago I bought a Blackbook, knowing it is a fingerprint magnet. I realize that after a year of usage keys might start getting shiny and maybe some smudges will show up here and there. Yet I'm not thinking of returning it at all. I was hooked from day one. So I guess there's your problem. You're clearly not impressed by osx/mbp, otherwise you'd be willing to take the "risk" without having second thoughts...
