Upgrading from a Dual 1.25 GHz PowerMac G4 (1 GB RAM, 80 GB HD) to a 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro (2 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD).

I also have an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ desktop system, which I'm hoping the MacBook Pro will slowly take the place of.

The laptop I use for work (HP Compaq nc8000) died recently, and I'm still waiting on my employer to provide me a new one (sadly, it'll be another HP, not a Mac - we use custom software in the office that only runs on Windows), so I've been completely without a laptop lately, which has absolutely sucked. Being chained to my desk caused me to order the MBP (I was initially thinking of ordering a Mac Pro).

To MacBook Pro C2D 2.33ghz 15" (mate) 160GB HD 2GB RAM

From: Gateway 450, 1.6 GHz Centrino, 60 GB 5400 hard drive, 1 GB Ram, ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 with 32 MB, Combo CD-RW/DVD-R, 15" screen. This system is 3.5 years old and served me well despite the two motherboard replacements and two hard drive replacements (buying that extended warranty was certainly worthwhile).

To: MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 17" (stock model) with glossy screen with AppleCare

November 14 (my estimated delivery date) cannot get here soon enough.

I've been ready since January and been waiting waiting waiting... It was hard to resist the first version of the 15 inch..but my heart wasn't there. It's there now with revb.

I also bought Aperture with the MacBook Pro. Couldn't run it on my G4..

still trying to decide between the 2.16 C2D MBP and the 2.33 C2D MBP.. but I'm upgrading from the blackbook in my sig.

why? because eBay makes it free. ;) (I did the student ADC, so it'll cost me $1800 total for the low-end MBP, including tax and the membership fee... 24 hours left, and I'm only $130 away from reaching that goal!).

i think ive been suffering the most...

5 year old PC, 700mhz, 40gig harddrive (though thankfully have a 200 gig external), 380 ram (or there abouts)...ive been good at keeping it going, all things considering...it has died a few times but ive somehow revived it over and over :p

im doing a graphic design degree, and believe it or not did quite a bit of photoshop on it! though now i use the g5 towers (or imac core 2 duos that have been recently bought) at my university

needless to say, this is a BIG upgrade... :D :D :D

Well, WHEN I finally decide to update... it'll be from my current computer which is a 2001 Gateway desktop with a 951MHz AMD Athlon Processor. It has a 40GB HD and 256MB of RAM. It came with Windows ME... but, I have Windows XP on it now.

I'm upgrading from an MBP CD also because I desperately need the extra RAM (and I also realized after 8+ months with the MBP that the 15" is too small for my needs).

But the RAM is the main driver. And the sad thing is I will have to upgrade again in the spring because what I really need is 4GB of RAM. But for now 3 is better than 2.

I'm upgrading a Dell Inspiron 8200 I bought a bit over 4 years ago. It's a p4 2 ghz, though half of the time I've had it it's run at 1.2 ghz due to a stupid SpeedStep bug. The hard drive also failed once (common in Inspiron 8200's -- happened to my friend 3 times) and had to be replaced. During my freshman and sophomore years of college (bought it right before I started.. just graduated) I had to reformat it more than once. The battery lasts about 15 - 20 minutes if the computer is simply idling. It has decent specs for the time -- 2 ghz, 512 mb RAM, 40 gig HD -- but I hate the thing.

The inspiron's plastic shell is literally COMING APART. If I move the computer off my desk or tilt the screen too much, there's a danger that the plastic connecting the LCD to the body will start to come apart and I have to jury-rig/click it back in place without breaking anything. I do this all the time. I'm amazed some insect hasn't crawled into a gap in the plastic and died. Heh, maybe it has.

What a POS. I can't wait for my first mac. :) It should be waiting for me at my apartment when I get home in about 5 hrs.

Oh and I'm going to a 15.4" 2.33 ghz/2 gig RAM/160 gig HD C2D MBP!

i am awaiting delivery of my new MBP 2.33, 2gb ram, 160 gb HD. and 256mb vram.

I am upgrading from a 1.25 G4 powerbook, with 80gb HD, 512mb ram and only 64mb vram. (currently thinking about upgrading my Sony Viao Tower to a Mac Pro)

it currently is probably on a plane from China on the second day they are shipping. I ordered it the morning it was announced.

Not really upgrading but rather changing from a Dell XPS M1210 to a Mac. The primary reason behind this is that the Mac offers more features and has a better screen and GPU. Other than that, the Dell M1210 is an excellent laptop as well. My Dell XPS M1710 still dwarfs my soon to be delivered MBP. :)

Well i am not exactly purchasing mine because i am getting a replacement due to a defective MBP. I ended up getting a C2D because i was shipped out and received the wrong MBP a day before the launch which meant that it had to go back. As I was promised a new one i was told that i would be getting a C2D when my new one shipped out again.

I had 15 inch 2.0ghz, 256vram 7,200rpm, 2gb ram Core Duo MBP
Going to-
15 inch 2.33, 256vram, 2gb ram, 160 GB HD Core 2 Duo.

From: a 12" 1GHZ 1.25GB 40GB APX and a Dell Dimension 4600 2.4GHZ 512MB --> Might turn this in to a media center for me tv. (The only part of this PC I'll touch after I get my MBP is the 20" flat panel:-D)

to: 15" 2.16 C2D 2GB 120GB HDD arriving Nov 2! --> 8 months of saving/waiting finally coming in to fruition!

upgrading from a 13" 2ghz Whitebook with 60gb and 1gb ram

to

15" 2.16ghz C2D Macbook Pro, base model.

I just cant stand the integrated graphics robbing memory from my system while running photoshop, illustrator, and flash.

the MBP should be more robust on all fronts.
