To: 15" 2.33GHz MBP, 2GB ram, 160GB HD.

A slight upgrade... ;)

I was originally holding out for a 13" MBP but then decide a) it would probably never happen and b) I could use the extra real estate as I delve into pro audio apps.

Technically, replacing a 12" PowerBook.

I had a 12" PowerBook that died; received a 15 MacBook Pro CD as a replacement (which I sold but never used). I am currently using the Mrs.' 12" iBook, but cannot wait to order my 17" MacBook Pro C2D [waiting for my ACD Student Account to be activated].

OK, well - not directly... theres been quite a few computers between, but just goes to show how far back I've been (on and off) with Macs.

Most recently a black MB 2.0/2GB/160GB which just left the world of eBay a few days ago...

The last notebook I had was back in 2001 when my office gave me one to work from home. All these while, I'm happy computing on my desktop PC running Linux .. Since I have the option to get my own notebook for work with my current employer .. I've choosen MBP 15"!! Hopefully a wise decision .. just put my order few hours ago .. couldn't wait for my MBP to arrive in .. ughh.. two weeks time.

mm... well... about noticing a difference... that all depends. You see your old computer was (and i don't think anyone will dispute me on this) a speed demon, it will truly be a chore for the new MBP to keep up to those standards. the C2D definately doesn't help the equation... I mean what's it got against a TM5800 993 MHz? Haha... hope you enjoy your new system.

Well, OK, if we're going that far then I'm upgrading from a Mac SE

68000 @ 8Mhz (Am I remembering that right?)
20 MB drive (God, how much did I pay for that?)
and the all important 800k floppy.

Or am I really upgrading from my pizza box NeXT?

105mb drive? (Can't remember)
68040@33Mhz (Ooh, I was so proud of that smoking '040!)
17" Greyscale screen
400 dpi NeXT printer
An OS, oh about 10 years ahead of it's time.

G3 --> G4 --> Core Duo --> Core 2 Duo

All were remnants of each other: 12" 700mHz had 4 logic board problems, replaced with 800mHz G4 iBook. Sold G4 iBook and used it towards a 1.67gHz 17" Powerbook. Sold Powerbook and purchased a 15" MacBook Pro. Returned MBP and bought 15" 2.0 for the 256 video card. MBP has had 3 repairs, Applecare is replacing with my new MBP C2D

I'm upgrading from two different computers that I just sold. A Power Mac G5 Dual 2.0 and a 1.33 GHZ 12" iBook. Both were wonderful computers, but I wanted something that would be a better replacement that both of them.

So here's whats coming:

15" MBP 2.33/2GB RAM/120GB HD yay!

I loved my G5 but I know that the MBP connected to my 20" Viewsonic will just even better!

Personally, im going from:
P4 3.2GHz, 1GB RAM, 320GB + 200GB HDD, ATI 9600Pro 256MB
to
C2D MBP, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, ATI x1600 128MB

Although, over the past 7 years I've made great use of my dad's G3 Lombard, G4 iBook and Macbook. I've also used G3 iMac and G3 iBook for prolonged periods of time. All these systems are still sitting at home somewhere. I need to find some use for the Mac ones, as my PC will become my media/torrent hub.

Now if only the peope in China would hurry up making my machine.

I loved my PB and I've used it for 3 yrs with no problems.
It is still a good machine.
But it's time to replace. My 2yr-old son will use the PB, I guess.

Since I moved to the UK in March my girlfriend and I have been sharing a 2.4Ghz P4 with an MX440 Video Card and 512MB RAM. Running Gentoo..

Although I am only back home on the weekends. During the week I have nothing to use (which is the main reason I'm buying a laptop), however I have... *counts*... 5 computers on my desk at work right now to play with, so it isn't all bad.

Still, it's going to be very very very very very nice to have my C2D MBP. I've wanted a Laptop for about 6 years, and a Mac for the last three. Yay!

I am coming from a 1.67ghz G4 Powerbook (October 2005 Model)

I will miss the S-Video output since I use it all the time to show videos, I guess I'll just have to get the dongle for that. It just seems like the right time for me since they put the FW800 back into the 15" model and I use that on my Lacie to store lots of my projects.

Second question, although weird is how many of you will be keeping your old machines?
