What are most people setting the sync time frame to? I had it at 3 days until I realized I often have a need to go back at least a week to pull up old mail, but I'm still seeing a fairly bad battery drain, that was even with it set to 3 days, I fear it'll be worse set to a week, unless the battery issue resolves itself I'm going to probably go back to checking manually, not worth it, when battery life is already pretty bad to begin with.
After reading this thread, I quickly realized that this is what has killed my battery over the last couple of days. I had mine set to no limit on the syncing.
Is 3 days even too much or do I need to just go 1 day to get descent battery life?
That setting really has no effect unless you are syncing more than the Inbox. Unless you never archive your mail and keep everything in the Inbox. Then it would have an effect.
He means if you hit the Archive button on the Internet version of Gmail instead of putting it in the trash or something else. What do you mean by archive it?
I'm surprised to see that no one here has noticed that using google sync, you won't be able to send email as other addresses you have authorised through gmail's settings.
it's always sent as your gmail ID, no matter how you set it up
kind of annoying since I use a a short code gmail address and send email as a longer gmail address (my surname), and have this longer address redirected towards the main gmail address.
It's always been that way. It's a limitation of the iPhone. It was that way when using Gmail IMAP.
No it wasn't.
You can set up any address you want with IMAP.
It will only work, however, if that address is authorised for use by gmail (Gmail settings->Accounts)
Note that there are two fields when setting up IMAP accounts on your iphone: email address, and username. Likewise for exchange accounts, it's just that google doesn't honour this setting when you send email thru gmail's exchange server. Moreover, I've been using NuevaSync's exchange server to have gmail push, and with them you can also specify a different From: address (again, it needs to be authorised).
My gmail will push to my phone, but I can't get it to sync. If I delete an email on my phone, it's still there when I look at my computer. Any idea how to fix that?
it requires you setting up your GMail account through your exchange account on your iPhone. I already have an exchange account on my phone with my work's email... am I missing something?
crap, I want a true PUSH solution (without the aid of Microsoft Exchange)

Is your gmail set up as IMAP? Mine is and when I delete an email from my Inbox on my phone, it disappears from my computer completely. I actually wish it wouldn't do that because I like to manually delete stuff from my Deleted Items. If I delete an item from my Inbox on my computer, it moves to my Deleted Items (or Trash - I'm not home so I don't recall what name it goes by). Anyway, when I want to permanently delete an item I just delete it from the deleted items. I'd love to be able to set up my phone to work the same way. Until then, I have to be careful not to delete anything from my Inbox on my iphone or else it's gone for good.
First off, we are talking about Exchange, not IMAP. However, if your Gmail is setup with IMAP, deleting from the inbox or any other label will move it to trash. It certainly will not delete it from the account completely.
I understand we're talking about exchange. The reason I mentioned that my gmail was set up as IMAP is because I seem to be experiencing the exact opposite of NotOwning. When he/she deletes an email on his/her phone, the email is still visible on the computer. When I delete an email from my phone, it disappears from my computer.
Anyone's gmail not working today? I'm receiving emails, but can't delete or send any..guess they're having some server issues again?
