How are you folks handling folders other than your Inbox with Gmail Push? Have you gone through and checked every single folder you have in the Push setup? I tried that initially but most of my messages never appeared. I also set it to push all messages not just newer than 3 days. I was still missing a bunch of messages.

What I've ended up doing is having two email setups on my iPhone. One with Gmail IMAP and set to manual update. And one with Gmail Push and I only have my Inbox set to push. I figured I don't need push on all those other folders. Is this a dumb way to do it?

Yes I have it set to no limit. As of now the earliest message is 9/9 so it seems I'm getting getting up to two weeks pushed. Has anyone successfully got all of their messages downloaded??

Emails which I've labeled and archived aren't showing up for me either. Is the solution to push all the labels which you want to be able to see on the phone?

Also, I've noticed when I delete an email on my phone, it is not moved to the Trash folder but is deleted completely. Is there any known solution for this?

Same thing here! Can't figure out how to get them all to show up!

I've deactivated my Exchange Gmail account. While it was sucking more battery than I had anticipated, it also seemed to not show mail being sent and it also shows up that it's using my Mobile Me account to send mail. Since that account is not used by me often I don't share it and don't care to have it used as the account that sends my e-mail.

I'll try again in a couple of days, but I can say that push was not as instant as it could be but I am confident this will certainly be a great service.

This is absolutely murdering my battery. I'll test it again today, but yesterday was terrible. My phone felt warm to the touch all yesterday.

If battery life is bad again today, I'm turning push off.

The Battery issues are not Google's fault.

MobileMe Push does the same thing to a battery.
FWI, here's the official response from a Google employee regarding the unable to download all messages issue:

"Hey everyone,

It's currently defaulting to 28 days - I'm looking into this, although I think we need to let the initial rush calm down a little before we do anything too drastic."

I am not sure I am buying this.

I have an email Labeled "Saved" that was sent to me on September 9.

That is only 14 days old, yet, in my saved folder on the iPhone, the email won't show up.

While I 100% agree with you about it not being Google's fault, it is not without notice that MM's push has been on my phone for years now and I've never seen battery drain so fast. Now, it is unfair to really speak one way or another just yet because it is beta, the servers are overloaded, and if you're telling it you want all your e-mail it may be trying and trying to no avail.

I felt the same way, I use exchange for my calendar and contacts but have them set to manual, having things load and update when i want them to is much better on the battery then fetch or push.

Plus you can get one those gmail push app, mine notifies me within 15-60 seconds. Most of the time it was faster then the exchange server.

For me, the GMail exchange server is lightning fast. My phone will vibrate before my computer's Google Talk system tray notifier will indicate a new e-mail.

However, the battery life has been brutal. I've set it for push inbox only and 1 week and I'll see how that does. Yesterday, I had push for all folders and no limit on time.

I've got it pushing Inbox and Sent Mail. Downloaded all my messages last night (200 for each folder) while on wifi. Yesterday I noticed tremendous battery drain which I'm hoping doesn't happen today but it doesn't seem to be off to a good start. Time will tell.

The length of time you set 'days to sync mail' for has nothing to do with battery life other than the first time you download all those messages. It's not like it's constantly "pushing" all of your messages.

i have 5 or so gmail accounts as well as a yahoo and hotmail account set up on my iphone in addition to an exchange account. Exchange is set to push and yesterday i set everything else to fetch manually.

usually when i leave the phone for the night it will use up anywhere from 20% to 50% of the battery. last night after the changes it used 10%. since i only use Exchange for work i don't care about having gmail come in right away

I never said the actual Gmail exchange push was slow, it would take a only min but never before the pushgmail app. So its not worth wasting more battery if an app can do it a little lighter & better, plus you get a preview bubble.

I've had push on an exchange account for a while now and it never drained battery as much as this. I'm still only pushing 3 days of email, just like before.

I wouldn't say Mobile Me does the same thing to the battery. I have had Mobile Me mail push as well as Google calendar and contact sync on for a while and battery lasts just fine. It is just with the addition of gmail push that my battery life plummeted.

Is anyone else having problems deleting emails from push Gmail? I just get the "Unable to move message" box and then they reappear in my inbox.

I did while I think my phone was still going through it's initial sync. Did you just set your account up? If so, just give it a little while and maybe even leave mail.app open for a bit until there's clearly no activity. It's working fine for me now after setting up yesterday afternoon.

Same here. Tremendous battery drain yesterday. Already into the 70 percent range today after 4 hours of standby and maybe 30 min of usage (no calls).

I just turned it off. Unless I can constantly charge it, GMail push makes my 3gs unusable.

I've got it pushing Inbox and Sent Mail.

Just curious, why are you pushing sent mail? My understanding is that if you want to sync with sent mail, you can just navigate to that folder and it will retrieve those messages instantly. I thought the value of push is to have instant notification of mail that's sent to you. I wouldn't think that would be the case with the sent mail folder. I assume you'd only push folders other than the Inbox if you have a server side rule that files new messages into folders other than the Inbox.
