Nice work with beta 2. It sucks that they don't allow you to launch directly into the Mail app's inbox, that would make this app PERFECT if they allowed it. I like the new notification sound, it's more distinct than any other notification on my phone (it kinda has a super mario bros. vibe lol). Also, I know this doesn't have anything to do with the performance of the app but the "PUSH" banner on the app's icon makes it look like a "Lite" or "Free" version of an app (it still looks good though, that's just me being picky I guess lol ).

Badge Notification Bug

With beta 2, sometimes the badges will not update. I just had 5 notifications and after opening the app (multiple times) and reading them the badge was still present on the icon. I tried opening the app and force quitting it but that did not get rid of it either. After a reboot, the badge finally disappeared.

Yes the badge count is not updated after in-app viewing. I rebooted but the app icon becomes white with the badge count still there.

Rebooted again and the white icon is still there. Deleted the app, resync from itunes and.....THE ICON IS STILL WHITE WITH THE BADGE COUNT. So what I did next was deleted the app, reboot and resync with itunes. Then I get back the new icon. BUT... another reboot and the icon goes back to white again. So I think this is something the developer needs to fix next.

Observations:-

1) When you activate push notification at the "Settings" page, the app doesn't automatically log you into your gmail acc over at the "Mailboxes" section. Instead, you will need to manually add in your account details again. Would be nice if this is automatic, since the user has already entered the credentials initially during the push activation process.

2) Would be nice to be able to customize the sound alert to other ringtones? Perhaps by adding an app option under the "Settings" panel of the iphone itself where users can choose the sound they want for the alert?

I personally don't like the new go-to-compose-page feature. Afterall you still need to exit the composing mode to read your gmail emails. I'm better off hitting the native mail icon myself. IMHO there's no improvement over the previous implementation, so why have it?

BUG(S)

Tapping the links in the app should invoke mobile safari instead of opening inside the app. I tapped the link and it opened inside the app but there is no way to get out of the link and back into the mailbox except quitting the app and relaunching it.

After using it a bit more I think that if you would have just thrown the icon and new notification sound into beta 1, leaving all the other code untouched, it would be better than beta 2.

I disagree... I think the go-to-compose is better than the alternative of it automatically going to the PushGmail mailbox when you slide to unlock. Actually, an option to open neither would be fine as well. With the go-to-compose feature, it still involves a button click ("Cancel") to get to the inbox. Going to the PushGmail mailbox requires two button clicks to get to the Mail app inbox, which I prefer.

I'm experiencing the same bug with the badge count not being updated correctly.

Also, I think the app might have an issue with receiving multiple emails that arrive close to one another, but I'll have to do some more testing on this.

Agree, I noted this to the developer but now i'm liking the new "go to Compose" feature. You can turn it off in the settings so if you don't like it, turn it off.

Yep, badge count isn't working at all. :(

I have also seen the receiving multiple emails arriving at the same time.

Why would you said that? If you read the change log, there aren't a lot of code changes at all. All of them are bug fixes.

Regarding the badge count, it never updated badge count. It used to hide the badge count whenever you launch the app. I decided to leave the badge count on because some users was confused. But it never did update the badge count when you read mail. It is impossible to do so. Say, when you read an email in the native mail app PushGmail will not know about it. PushGmail does not run in the background so it cannot check. The only time the badge count can update is when a notification comes in. Regardless, I think this is sufficient as the main point of this app is to notify you that new emails are available. I don't really see the utility in keeping the unread email count up to date every second. I will however consider changing the logic back to beta1 where the badge is hidden after the app is launched.

Regarding the Go-to compose feature, it's a toggle. Not every user will like it, that's why it's an option :)

I liked it better when the badge count would disappear upon launching the app. As it stands now, I constantly have a "1" badge on the app at all times even though I have no new messages.

Also, would it be possible to add forward, reply, and reply all buttons that float within the app. If you are replying to a long email chain, it is a pain to scroll all the way to the bottom to reply. Outside of these two things, I am loving the app though.

I agree, the badge makes me think I have mail to check when I don't.

Forward and reply functionality would be a bonus. ;)

I don't think the dev can do anything about that. It is a separate component from within the App. That would be something to request to Google.

I understand the bug fixes, however I personally was not experiencing any bugs which affected the functionality of the app which is why I said what I did before. My previous statement was mainly because of the badge situation in beta 2. As ladysman said, I find myself thinking that I still have unread emails because it is still displaying a notification. Besides that, I think this is a great app and the most useful app on my phone at the moment. Hell, it gets used more than the phone app! Lol

Just like the first beta, I am not experiencing any problems with beta 2. I especially like the logo for the app (much better than just a blank block). It's really a shame that you're unable to have the push work natively within the mail app. But overall, push is working perfectly for me. Great work thus far.

Still working great in beta 2. I agree that I like the feature in the first version with the disappearing/invisible badge. I think it'll confuse people to not have that. I also like the new icon. Emails are still being pushed instantly. Love it! :D

i submitted this idea to the developer already, but what do others think of having a filter on emails that get pushed? i think it could be incredibly useful to weed out some of the emails you don't want pushed but still want to appear in your inbox for later

I'd rather apps open up links inside their own app than switching to Safari. Or make it a toggle option in settings. Back button should be added in the above case, IMO.

I'm interested in testing this out, sending a PM.

I think this is a must, if you open an attachment within the app the only way to get back to your inbox is to close the app and re-open it unless viewing a movie file, in that case you can just hit "Done" and it will take you back to your inbox.

*EDIT: I tested this with .xls, .docx, .jpg & .mov extensions. Only the .mov allows you to return to your inbox after opening via the "Done" button as mentioned above.
