Thank You!

Just PWNED MY 2G IPHONE! after 12 hours of hard work and multiple hiccups... your post saved the day! thanks a million!

Curveball

I've started to get a line in the display of my 1st gen iPhone.

This iPhone has AppleCare on it and I want to go swap it at the Apple Store.

The phone is running 2.1 and IS UNLOCKED AND JAILBROKEN.

I am running iTunes 8 on a Mac. I likely have an earlier version of iTunes on my other computer (probably even 6.x) if that matters.

How can I adjust the phone so it is factory-fresh and looks as if nothing has ever been done to it?

Thanks.

bootloader not working

as i run the pwnage tool and get ready to build it, it says to search for the bootloader v. 3.9, but when I do and click on my bl39.bin, it says that it doesn't recognize it!

Any help would be great.

Thanks!

Also having this problem. Looks like pwnage for 2.1 is broken!

So I sold my old 2.0 2G iphone to my friend (It's got pwnage that unlocked the 2.0 firmware). And i want him to update to the latest firmware.

He has a windows computer, did pwnage tools launch a tool set to break the 2.1 firmware a.k.a pwnage 2.2? I can't seem to find it.

Unlocked iPhone -> Jailbreak

I looked through this thread and couldnt see this, so i hope I'm not duplicating information, but i found that because my phone was UNLOCKED (by the carrier, Vodafone), a normal Jailbreak would leave my phone with no signal, so clicking OFF 'activate iPhone' meant that it allowed iTunes to activate it, and it now works like a dream.

Sorry for the dumb question.
Currently unlocked 1.1.4 etc with iLiberty, want to do it with pwnage now and get the latest updates etc

Do i need to restore first?
Help me please, need some directions

OK so far i have spent hours on this, it is doing my head in. I am using an iMac, download bootloaders, it is in a rar file, cant open that, then i get 3.9, pwnage does not recognise it, i am following the instructions on here, why is there a problem

CRAP!!

I wanted to "upgrade" my mate's 1st gen (1.1.4) Unlocked iPhone to version 2.1 and use the Pwnage 2.1 tool to do so. (Tried Quickpwn 1.1 first, but that doesn't seem to unlock bricked 1st gen iPhones...)

As I personally own a real 3G iPhone, and have left the unlocking / jailbreaking scene behind me after the 1.1.4 on my first iPhone, I haven't been really up-to-date on hacking the 2.x firmware.

So, after repeatedly putting this 1st gen iPhone in DFU mode, and restoring the official 2.1 firmware, I have made countless "Custom_Restore_IPSW's" for this iPhone, and every time whilst restoring the iPhone with the "Custom_Restore_IPSW" made by PwnageTool 2.1, encounted an error (6) in iTunes telling me that I can't restore...
But, selecting a real IPSW does work...
Tried the same procedure over and over again on another Mac too, but with the same exceedingly annoying result!

So, I Googled.... and have found similar issues with people using PwnageTool 2.1 with iTunes 8.0 running on Mac OS X 10.5.5.

Before I will downgrade a Mac to Mac OS X 10.5.4, I ask you lovely people...: Can anyone confirm this? Is my issue purely Mac OS X 10.5.5 related..? EDIT: Or iTunes 8 related??

I hate this kind of thing.... a mate asks if you could upgrade his iPhone... seems piece of cake... seen the iClarify tutorial.... 4 hours later still having no results! So, there goes another quiet evening.

You have to restore with the custom firmware as you can't update using pwnagetool so just do that. No need to restore first before restoring again!

Unless you use quickpwn in which case just update using iTunes and run it. But the previous jailbreak may cause issues. Just try it and see for yourself.

You CANT UPDATE using custom firmware. You MUST restore! thats why you are getting error 6!

Well i sorted it last night. All of a sudden it found 3.9 and 4.6, made the new software, saved that on my desk top, then had some issue getting it into DFU mode, then got the white screen error 2001 and it saying it has not worked. Found a thread saying shut down itunes restart it and bingo....It worked.

And it appears to have sorted the echo callers were getting.

Tnx for replying, but I probably wasn't clear.... was very late last night, and got a bit frustrated... ahum ;)
I did use the custom firmware to restore.. trust me.. tried all sorts of firmwares.. even found on teh webb, and after Googling some more today, I found more people with similar issues using iTunes 8 and / or Mac OS X 10.5.5. Not everyone, but many.

This is what I am going to do: get a Mac OS X 10.5.4 / iTunes 7.x Mac, and do the Quickpwn using firmware 2.0.2. Unlock the iPhone with that, and then let iTunes 8 manually update the firmware to 2.1, and let in be simply only unlocked, and not jailbroken anymore.
That seems to be the known-working scenario. And as this iPhone I am talking about is not mine, I just want it working without too much hassle...

EDIT:

Found some other pre-customised ipsw file, and restored that one to this iPhone using iTunes 8, and it works brilliantly!

'sry, i haz Fail'

I'm trying to use Pwnage 2.1, and having probblems getting the program to create an ipsw file.
I follow the instructions, but everytime I tell it to build the file, i get a screen that looks like this:

ihazfail.jpg

as you can see, the program can't seem to detach the Ramdisk. Has anyone got any ideas on how to get past this?

Thanks.

Failure in making the custom firmware is normally down to there not being enough hard drive space to make the custom firmware.

I believe it needs around 500MB to 1GB of HD space to build the file.

Failing that just restart your Mac as that can also fix problems like yours.

If they both fail then let me know!

As for how to jailbreak...

Use either quickpwn or pwnagetool. Read the first page!

for anyone having missing bootloader files or other errors, make sure you drag pwnagetool into your Applications folder or on your desktop.

Hmm, still not working

I have 30 GB or freespace, and 2GB of Ram, so I don't think that memory is the problem. And I've tried restarting the computer, no luck there either. What other ways can I approach solving this problem?

Thank you for your help.

Delete the copy of pwnagetool you have and download it again from the iphonedev mirrors.

Make sure you use the apple extraction tool to extract it and NOTHING else as this can cause errors.

If you still have issues after this I would point you at the hackint0sh forums where the iPhonedev team post on and where there is a more technical knowledge available about issues that are not easily solvable.

Jailbroke with quickpwn. Selected cydia, installer, and boot logo. I have the snazzy pineapple but no cydia or installer icons on the springboard. Any ideas?

Hey guys, I need some help here, I got that 1600 error message and now I don't know what to do. Can anyone help? and I can't turn on my iphone(gen 1) now.

I was upgrading from 1.13 to 2.0.2

using pwnage 2.0.3
Itunes 8
on mac.

Nevermind guys I got it on a second try!!! I had to rebuild the custom .ipsw though...

For people with 1.1.3 and want to update with Pwnage 2.0.3 straight to 2.0.2 do it, it works.

error 21

Hi,
can someone please help me out on this one.
I have a 2G iPhone, which were unlocked before at 2.0. I have updated it to 2.1, and need to re-unlock it. But as I tried to restore my custom restore using iTunes, error 21 pops up. I've tried this for 5 times now.
any idea on why this is?

I got the same error 21 at first, and managed to fix it. I don't know exactly which one did the trick, but I have two suggestions:

a) open a Terminal, do "cd ~/Library/iTunes/; mkdir 'Device Support' "
b) possibly the more likely reason: your iPhone is not in DFU mode, but in Restore mode. I have the impression that the countdown in PwnageTool may be quite a bit messed up at times, so hit both the Power & Home buttons, slowly count to 10 and release the Power button while keeping your finger on Home. That did the trick for me, anyway.

Yours,
Floe

floe,

I had somehow also managed to do a restore without bumping into error 21. I suspect, like you mentioned, sth to do with me not correctly in DFU mode.

btw, how is the market like at the moment for selling the first gen on ebay? anyone knows?

thanks floe.

The freakiest thing just happened. I've been running 2.0 for a while now, and decided to update to 2.1. I've got a 2G iPhone. So I click update firmware in iTunes, and, well, it updates. Then the phone turns on, asks me for my code to unlock the phone, I type that in, then it asks for my SIM pin, I type that in too. It takes a while to search for the network, and voila, up and running! I can text and make calls. Anyone care to explain?

Oh and yeah, my iPhone was unlocked to run on another network here in the Netherlands. It a US iPhone 2G, I used pwnage tool a while ago to crack it/unlock it
