Yeah, 2.2 Firmware may disable ability software unlock. :)

Being that you have a phone already upgraded to 2.2, I think you are SOL. Sorry. :(

iPhone 2G (1st Generation)

No problems i have done well over 20 now no issue's
The 2.2 firmware for 2G (1st gen iPhones) doesn’t contain a baseband update and the baseband is still at 04.05.04

Update or Restore your iPhone 2G with iTunes then run QuickPwn, you don’t need to worry about anything.
If you need to unlock
Download http://www.enkrypted.com/bootloaders.rar
Then select unlock and run with bootloaders

If it does not work try again a couple i have done i have had to do twice but still ok.
Also some had been unlocked from ZIPhone updated with Quickpwn with no issue's

Sounds silly but is the phone fully charged!
"Try Wall Charger not USB"
Also has the unit been dropped
I currently have a friend who thought the iphone would bounce much to his surprise it did.
But also messed the inside up so now it does not link
All i can suggest is leave on charge then hold both buttons and try and recover

It does take good timing to get the correct button timing

i would say try try again

When i 1st tried it kept failing as i would not hold the button at correct time

So is it safe right now to Jailbreak 2.2 on the 3G with QuickPwn or should one wait until the dev team come out with the yellowsn0w hack?

Does this work on new Macs?

Hey, i have the brand new Macbook, and I was wondering if i could jailbreak on it even with the new USB thingy, or would i have to use my bro's old macbook?

Have you read the message board yet? This has been asked/answered numerous times. :)

from what i have read so far, this is what you need to do.

- for 3G
if you have version 2.1, you need to upgrade to version 2.2
then jailbreak it first, then unlock (two separate steps, so you can jailbreak
without unlocking. but you must jailbreak before unlocking)

Thank you for posting such a detail information. It's a great help for many people.

Here's my questions.

My firmware was 2.2 and I've jailbroken my iPhone 3g with QuickPwn. I read in Cydia that says, "If you have a 3g iPhone and want potential soft unlock in the near future do NOT use QuickPwn, and do not use the official ipsw or the iTunes update process without using PwnageTool".

Does this mean i might not be able to jailbreak my Iphone 3g with future firmware?

I am trying to help my cousin jailbreak his Iphone 2g. He has a 1.1.1 firmware and it's unlocked. Can i just upgrade his iphone 2g using itunes to 2.2 and jailbreak it with PwnageTool then unlock it? I am not sure what method or program he used to unlock his Iphone because his iphone came jailbroken.

i am not sure about your question regarding your 3G, maybe someone can address it better.

as for your other 2G, you can simply upgrade to 2.2. once upgraded to 2.2, his phone will be locked. then use pwnage to jailbreak and unlock in one single process.

I've been trying to install quickpwn but it doesn't get beyond Quickpwn is about to run on your 3g iphone--just spins for hours now. Turns out that I have the new software update 10.5.6 which won't allow it. Now the problem is, how to stop the process or disconnect so I can go find another computer. It doesn't respond to ejecting. Should I risk just unplugging the USB cable? Can't turn my iphone on either--just a black screen.
I am a real novice so please explain what to do in layman's terms.
Thanks

Let's say that there is a 2.3 official update. I want to update that firmware then jailbreak my 3g again. It maybe not possible according to what the Dev-team said.

What does baseband do? It's said that QuickPwn DOES upgrade the baseband, which means it will negatively affect unlocked phones. Anyone can explain this?

this is what i understand, every time you upgrade, your phone will be locked again, thus you need to unlocked. accordingly to the latest from dev team, they can ONLY unlock 3G version 2.2 with the baseline they specified. so if you should choose to upgrade to 2.3 in the future, your phone will be locked and you will have to wait for the new pwnage tool for version 2.3. hope this helps.

like you, i am not too clear about the baseband either. maybe someone can elaborate on this for people like you and i.

I've tried to download the pwnage tool for version 2.2 on a mac and it looks like they are currently updating it? Something about yell0wsn0w

I bought my Iphone through apple store and i can use any sim cards i want. Does that mean it won't affect me if i update in the future?

Let's say if my iphone is 'locked' then is there a way to avoid this? <--for the sake of knowing more.:D

Actually I have been reading the message boards and just did a search, and can't figure it out myself. My MacBook isn't a unibody but I did update to 10.5.6, before I decided that I might want to jailbreak. So is it finally safe to use QuickPwn with 10.5.6? Sorry if you guys keep having to answer this question over and over again, but multiple searches of both Google and Macrumors didn't tell me.
