Okay I got tethering working, but it seems like I can't open up iTunes because as soon as it detects the iPhone it applies a carrier setting update that hides the tethering option again. Is there a way around this or should I just stop using iTunes for now? :(

Perhaps you guys (and gals) should just wait? You haven't had it in OS 1 or 2, so what's 1 or 2 months more of wait? I mean, I want MMS NOW, but the constant on and off struggle with AT&T and updating the ipcc file just seems a bit too much for me.

How do you remover "cellular data network" from your phone? I give up and want to remove it, but I don't know how. Thanks

I did the whole other AT&T phone swap thing and added the normal media net txt plan. I still can't send Mms's. Gives me red exclamation.

So I downloaded the file and now when i go into network it says tethering on or off but no where can i find a location to input or do the step below:

Step 4:

Once your iPhone has successfully rebooted go to:

Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network

Input the following information in the appropriate fields:

APN: wap.cingular
Username: wap@cingulargprs.com
Password: CINGULAR1
MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32
MMS Max Message Size: [leave blank]
MMS UA Prof URL: [leave blank]

Now after that is done, you should be able to Tether and Send MMS. If not then I would suggest checking over the info above and ensuring everything is exactly the same.

same.

mine was working before noon PST and I just tried to send one and it fails now..

:(

My plan has no MMS opt-out and has the messaginig unlimited from my blackjack..

Recently had MMS working on my 3G for about 24 hours before being shut off (used a Razr and switched over and all that stuff). So today, got my 3G S and switched my SIM from my 3G and now my MMS works again (so does tethering). I'm guessing it will be shut down sooner or later, but it works now.

eureka!

For people with broken voicemail:

With the ipcc that is floating around, voicemail may not work because it is set to wap.cingular. When you change it to acds.voicemail, the voicemail service works again but the tethering option disappears. This is because the typemask gets changed.

I rebuilt an IPCC with MMS, Tethering, and voicemail working by changing the typemask to -3, not -2. This sets the voicemail 'address' to what is set by the carrier bundle (acds.voicemail).

Thanks, andyplace! This is the only thing that got both working for me, and I tried a half a dozen or more solutions.

i folowed the instructions but it is giving me the red exclamation point
is this right?

This isn't working for me. I put in all the correct info in Network Settings, I also have regular "Messaging 200" as my texting plan, not "iPhone Text Messaging 200." But I just get red !'s.

:/

Why dont I have a voicemail section in cell data netowork? Just cell data and MMS.

Enabling tethering or MMS kills Visual VoiceMail. Besides, MMS doesn't send no matter what you do. If you manually enter the carrier settings to get VM back, it will kill tethering. To fix this you need to do is after enabling tethering, turn it on, then Option+Click "check for update" in iTunes and point iTunes to User/Library/itunes/iphone carrier support and hit OK to restore original carrier setting to get VM back. Don't enter the settings manually because it will kill tethering. Got it!

i am in agreement with this. i had mms working today (switched my plan from iphone to regular online) but then tethering no longer worked. once i fixed tethering with the benm.at settings, mms died, and now i can't get it back, even though my plan still shows as regular texting, non-iphone. i'll play with it some more, but i think something needs corrected in the type-mask. saw on another board where they showed a table and all kinds of different values, but nothing negative like we are seieing now.

got MMS working

first off, i'd like to say thanks to the OP for all the original info provided on the ipcc and settings.

that being said, i've finally got MMS working as of this morning.

i followed the steps outlined here by the OP, and then the ones listed here:
http://gizmodo.com/5202406/

things to remember:
1. make sure you are using an AT&T phone, not Tmobile or anything else. i tried a tmobile razr and it would never change to that phone on my at&t mywireless page.

really, it's incredibly easy. popped my sim back into my phone after changing my sms plan and then activating medianet, and sent a picture message to myself.

Can someone tell me how to undo this Carrier update? I want to know just in case i have to take my phone to apple to get exchanged. I dont want this to mess up my applecare coverage. Im on windows.

I've been trying to get MMS to work for about 2 days now. Finally today, just a few minutes ago it started to work.

I had tried everything...
-first i did tethering at benM's site (very easy!)
-installed his mobileconfig files, made my MMS setting match his
-installed the modified IPCC file
-put my SIM card in another person's phone
-tried contacting AT&T (3 separate times), they said since I had an iPhone data plan on that number that they couldn't do anything.

I turned my phone back on from trying to trick AT&T for the 3rd (and probably final time) and I receive a few picture messages! Some I had test sent myself from text5free.net. (replace 5 with 4)

So I first tried sending myself a picture message and BAM it worked! It's been working for about an hour now, so hopefully it stays working!

I'll be happy to answer any questions, although I'm not sure there really is a "step-by-step" plan to get it working. You might just have to be lucky!

If it matters...I have an iphone 3G on AT&T with family messaging plan.
