For people with broken voicemail:

With the ipcc that is floating around, voicemail may not work because it is set to wap.cingular. When you change it to acds.voicemail, the voicemail service works again but the tethering option disappears. This is because the typemask gets changed.

I rebuilt an IPCC with MMS, Tethering, and voicemail working by changing the typemask to -3, not -2. This sets the voicemail 'address' to what is set by the carrier bundle (acds.voicemail).

ok so I download the bundle, but for itunes do I just change it to an .ipcc file by editing the text or what are the correct actions? Evrything I have tried brought it to an open file with a dead end. Just need to know what exactly I'm trying to "click+update" with itunes.

I read somewhere that someone said you could email yourself the ipcc file and open it in the mail app and it would install on your phone, sounds too easy, no?

I read that thread as well. Was trying to follow Gizmodo's instructions, but havent played with the iphone software or even mac software to much.

Good man! Thanks!!!

thanks for putting this together. it still requires AT&T to enable MMS though, correct?

thanks... josh

I didn't have to do jack with AT&T. Family Unlimited Plan = win. Check your options within AT&T bill site and look at your iPhone line. If it has specially selected "iPhone" texting plan, you're going to need to take that off, that keeps MMS from being activated on iPhone me thinks. Make sure you don't have any of those options selected.

If you don't, just get the beta iTunes and the rest is magic :D

hmmm, loading this carrier file, i have no new settings in my cellular data entries, and incoming calls no longer work. any ideas?

thanks.. josh

I have tried EVERYTHING, still no MMS, and I can verify I have the regular messaging plan and NOT the iPhone plan. The rep was very helpful with me earlier and still I'm getting nothing. I know they changed it because I haven't even gotten the viewmymessage.com texts.

I'm inclined to believe that AT&T is quickly going through everyone's account and removing the opt-out codes, and those who are lucky enough to have been done already have gotten this working. They haven't gotten up to some of us yet I guess.

well i know opt out is still on my latest bill so im just gonna sit on my hands until AT&T gets their act together

Excellent! Thanks, MMS, Tethering, V-Voicemail Works perfectly.

Everytime I have done it, I just removed the "zip" extension and worked perfectly with iTunes.

still nothing. now i don't have tethering and i don't have mms. back to square 1.
and i have the 200 regular text message which is a standard one and not the one for iPhone.

I give up........

The moral of this story seems to be as follows:

DO YOU HAVE A FAMILY PLAN?
IF YES:
Install the carrier files, and you'll most likely have MMS and tethering without any further action.

IF NO:
You can install the carrier files, and you'll enable tethering. However, any MMS messages you attempt to send will likely get a red (!) mark and fail. You'll probably have to call AT&T and hunt down the one CSR who hasn't received a batch email by now saying "Don't make any account changes RE: text/MMS message for anyone with an iPhone!" If you manage to find that one person, tell them: "put me on the standard texting plan, not the iPhone texting plan; enable MediaNet and WAP push; enable MMS in Snooper; do a push over the air activation".

So, family plan users win. Everyone else: either add a phone to your plan, or wait it out.

I posted a type-masked -3 rebuilt .ipcc last night on 2 different threads. People really need to read threads, but the mods also need to start merging threads. I also made another post about how there are too many other mobileconfig files and .ipcc's that are incorrect, thus possibly creating problems for a lot of people.

By the way, even with a type-mask -2 .ipcc file, Tethering/VVM will work. You just have to change the VVM settings to acds.voicemail instead of wap.cingular manually in the settings. The most reliable .ipcc i've found so far has been the ATT 5.0 one, just in case people are wondering.

Thanks!

Tethering works perfectly. Unfortunately I'm going to have to wait for MMS. My parents won't change to the family unlimited texting, because they don't text. Oh well.

and how do you load this file?

Hmm. I decided to give it another shot and installed this latest ipcc. At first tethering and vvm worked perfectly and I decided to add in mms settings, but that ended up killing tether and vvm both. Removed mms settings and now vvm and tethering work fine again. No idea what to do next now.

Maybe I'll just be happy with the tethering as long as I can.
