I tried the steps located on 1st page and i can send them now but they dont go through, i get the red exclamation point. So when i get home tonight i am gonna try gizmodos instructions. I am on a family unlimited Msg plan.

If your voicemail is broken after attempting the MMS and Tethering change, I found a forum that suggested using acds.voicemail in the place of wap.cingular. It worked for me, right after I typed it in the three voice-mails I had attempted to send earlier chimed.

Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network>Visual Voicemail (Not a button, one of the sections on the page)

Visual Voicemail
APN: acds.voicemail

Leave everything else in this section blank.

After doing this, attempting to enable tethering fails and the option to use tethering is removed from the settings altogether. Resetting the network settings brings tethering back, but then visual voicemail is still broken. Has anyone else experienced this?

i can't figure out how to get my voicemail to work with 3.0GM on my iPhone 3g on AT&T, *AT ALL*. if I try and hear my greeting, or change my greeting, or anything it just hangs. new voicemails are not showing up on my list.

Short of restoring, you'll need to set the APN for Visual Voicemail to acds.voicemail with no username or password. This seems to be working for several people, including myself.

option + update

When I try to do this step I go to the carrier file I downloaded in step 1 but I cannot open the .bundle file, I am sure I am making some sort of noob error. Please help!

will this mess anything up when the real carrier update comes out?
or will it it mess up any of my backups or what not for my legitimate upgrade to 3.0

Mms 95%

MMS almost works. Sends to about 95% (Sending status at the top) then just sticks there. SMS still works. Must be waiting for something back and does not see it. Anyone else have this problem?

I have the same problem. It gets to about 95% then I get a little red exclamation bubble that says sending failed or whatever.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Stupid question, but I don't I don't know how to select the carrier file. Am I supposed to click "check for update"? When I do it says I have the current version.

I hate to be blunt, but considering you don't know what you are doing, I REALLY recommend you wait until AT&T gives you these features.

No your probably right, but i'm not completely retarded(Just a little bit) when it comes to this stuff, figure if I do screw it up that big restore button will fix it.

I just don't patience if it not painfully obvious I go ask for help.

Attention

Hey ok so I have been cracking at this for awhile. The one major step people seem to forget in here is when you put the settings in all the user name and password has to be in caps. Also after you place the settings you must turn the phone off and back on. I just did the update and works fine and I have a Family Unlimited messaging plan. As long as you have a that plan or any other text plan not with iphone it will work.

If on a mac you need to right click the file - click get info - hit the triangle next to Name & extentsion - take the .zip out there you go. (this is the zip file that may get placed in trash just move it to another location)

A few of you mentioned that tethering will use whatever connection your iphone is using to access the web (3G if you are on 3G, EDGE if you are on EDGE, or WiFi if you are on WiFi). Are you guys sure about that? I can get tethering to work on 3G or EDGE... but I can't get it to work on WiFi. I can have the WiFi running on the iPhone but if my 3G is turned off it is loading stuff on the laptop at EDGE speeds. It makes me think it will only work on 3G and Edge but not WiFi. Can anyone else confirm?

The carrier files are from gizmodo and come as a .dmg file.

I just checked my visual voicemail and it still works. I had to rerecord my greeting but everything else worked fine. I still have not been able to get MMS working but I think that has something to do with the carrier files that I used from gizmodo. The MMS carrier network data fields are present but there are no options to send pictures via text. I actually did this just for the tethering.

brockb: why would you want to tether it with wifi? What laptop do you have? Unless its super old it will have a built in wifi card or you might be using a hackintosh netbook...

Any help getting bluetooth tethering to work? I can connect over USB just fine, but I can't get a connection over bluetooth. It also will pair fine, but it won't hold a connection between the 2 devices.

Since people with iPhones get FREE wifi (on their iPhones) at Starbucks and all ATT hotspots... it would be nice to tether your laptop to the iPhone that is getting free wifi.

I get 2 free hours of wifi (usable on the laptop) each day at Starbucks/ATT Hotspots anyways so it isn't that big of a deal... but for those days where I may want to spend a little more time there it would be nice to be able to tether to the iphone's wifi connection.
